  • Hi Everyone,
    Today's the day we share how to properly put your F30 up on four jack stands. Always be safe and make sure that you use the right tools, take your time and go SLOW. There's a lot of important steps, so this video is a tad longer.
    Here's what I used in this video:
    ESCO Jack Stand: amzn.to/2v7VE0N
    Burger Motorsports Jack Pad: amzn.to/2v7YHGc
    Arcan Low Profile Jack: amzn.to/2fi5CqU

    NOTE: You should never get under your car with just the jack holding the car up. Always put a tire with rim under the car first incase it falls when you're under. Many people have died when jacks have failed.

    I would make a slight adjustment to your method. When either the front or rear is on the floor jack during the lifting process, do not keep the jack stands sitting under the rockers to check for correct height. If the hydraulics in the jack give out, the car will slam onto the jack stands and depending on the location of the stands, either destroy the rockers or do something far worse. Best is to leave the stands by the side of the car and push them in each time while crouching to check for height. Then if satisfied, leave them there, or pull back out and repeat until the desired height is reached. That's what I do.
    Also, since the jack pad adapters are lightweight aluminum, I tape them to the jack pads on the car with masking tape in an X pattern before ever lifting the car. Saves time and hassle.

    Well presented. Cinder blocks under the wheels work well if oriented correctly with the center rib vertically under the axle. Never get under the car with just a jack stand. Also, be aware and extra cautious if you are working in a seismically active area like the west coast.

    I've been working on my E46 M3 putting in catless headers for the last two days. I'm at the point that I realize I need to get the car higher but my low profile jack won't go any higher with out using some wood or something to get it up there. Which I will do in the morning. However after all the monkeying around I've done working on my own car over the years I am seriously thinking of starting a club of trying to re-introduce the "mechanics pit" into garages. They are more popular in Europe I think but they used to be made in the Americas as well. But for some reason fell out of popularity. Too bad because they are much safer and you NEVER EVER have to jack up and down your car EVER AGAIN!!! I HATE IT!! LOL. Thanks for your very well made video!

    Here's a tip. Get the car to the right height, then raise the jack stands into the Jack Points and lock them into place. This ensures alignment between jack point cavity and the jack stand. This makes it safer to then release the weight off the floor jack as it guarantees alignment. Makes for a safer + faster job.

    I like to put some foam tape on the jack adapters so I can jam it onto the jack point and it doesn't fall out. That way don't have to readjust so much.

    If you’re not servicing the tires, rotors, etc., I like to use car ramps with 4 jack stands and the jack. I put 2 stands exactly where he has them on both sides and the jack on which ever side I chose. If I’m servicing the tires then do exactly what he does but leave the jack up on one side and the tires as extra support. Some may say I’m excessive. Well, better that than a car on my head.

    Tip if you need more room to slide trolley jack under from front or back lift each side up and put a chock under each wheel. Plus when aligning stands don't drop car to stands raise stands to car. Thats why they are adjustable.

    If all you want to do is jack up one wheel at a time (to install spacers), but you don't want to trust just the jack to keep it up, where can you put the jack stand to make it safe (since the jack is using the jack point)? Like around 3:43 where you are showing the spot for the front center jack point, you put a stand in there to make it safe for you. Where is that at, and is that a safe spot given the task?

    Does anyone know if that jack can reach the front axle jack point on an f10 m5?

    • @MichaelWhite78
      @MichaelWhite78 4 года назад

      The Arcan xl2t seems it is the lowest profile and longest after comparing. The front bumper to the jack point look to be about the same distance on the F10 and F30. Let me know if you pulled the trigger on this purchase (before I waste my money 😊)

    In order to jack in the front and the rear of my 335i F30, does the Low profile Jack will work as well ?
    Because in your video you are talking about any performance cars. I'm not asking about any other cars, but just this BMW F30.
    I'm asking because the EXTRA/ULTRA low profile is more expensive and not easy to find here in Canada at good price.

    Wow so much work. There's got to be an easier way. How about just driving the on to a block of wood. Most people do not have that low profile jack. I feel it's too much work than it has to be.

    • @H0rseMac
      @H0rseMac 5 лет назад

      Why would you buy a higher profile jack when a low profile jack can guarantee lift your car?

    • @lhendrick1
      @lhendrick1 5 лет назад +1

      If you don't have a low profile jack, just drive the car up on 4 pieces of 2x6 to raise the car a bit and use any jack

    • @dylan-nguyen
      @dylan-nguyen 4 года назад

      Laurence Hendrick low profile jacks are like $20-40 extra, for someone without a saw or drill it’s cheaper to get low profile jack! Also floor jacks r safer. And you can use it for a while..

    Cool, but you definitely not need a jack for 1000 bucks or adapters for 50 bucks. Especially if you are doing some amateur fixes for your car. You buy a much cheaper and shorter jack. You first jack each side and put bricks under the car to lift it about 10-15 centimeters, then you have a clearance to use center jack points with your no-pro jack:)

    • @westhavenor9513
      @westhavenor9513 2 года назад +1

      I don't know where you shop, but the stands are 60 bucks ea, pucks are 10 ea, and the jack is under 200. So you're under 500 out-the-door.
