I don't remember the exact episode, but I'm 99% sure it's a welding torch and not a hook.
THANK YOU !!!....I wasn't sure because like Emgo I didn't watch G1 since, well G1. But I remember Gears repairing autobots with Ratchet with it.
@@fredtott4684 Nah, would be more that one episode he was brainwashed by the Decepticons to be "nice" and fix their sun exploding doomsday machine. I remember because it's pretty much Revenge of the Fallen but more amazon and less Egypt. G1 had a looot of dumb/weird episodes with planet destroying weapons going on.

I have so much respect for FansToys for making these super intricate transformations but there's so many thin panels I'd be afraid of snapping. Love the videos, been watching for years now

The face changing with the bell sounds is such a little detail but I love when emgo does it so much. I only remember it one other time and I can’t think of the figure for the life of me but I was laughing at it for a solid five minutes.

Top figure by Fans Toys, this one ticks many boxes, and great review. You've probably noticed this since recording, Variator has double jointed knees, quite stiff at the beginning 😉
I like to think there is a huge pile of collector cards just off camera from when he throws them
FansToys, as always, has such amazing paint. They almost always use a metallic version of the color and it always pops, even on camera. Love their figures, if they were less expensive I'd have a lot more of them.
Variator is nice and matches the MP aesthetic pretty damn well.
For me, I like Grump way more because he fits in really well with my Generations collection.
It's possible that I may end up replacing Grump with the official Legacy United version that's coming, but I doubt it.

G1 Gears was the first transformer I was ever gifted with as a child.
Found it, Transformers #3 (January 1985) Gears dies while trying to save a human, and Spidey's (in black costume) webs break dropping Gear to his supposed death... only to find he was just off-lined on the last panel
I think the "hook" is a welding torch. I seem to remember one of the autobots bringing one out of their arms. I don't remember is it was Gears though. I have G1 Gears....precious.

Hey emgo316 the Chrome piece is a torch that was in one scene of G1
The hook thing is a welder I believe he used it to cut through some iron support beams on the oil rig in more than meets the eye

Looks fun! I think I still prefer the Badcube alt mode, but the FT bot mode does look better, IMO.
BC alt mode looks better then FT does.

Tbh even if they go mode G1 toy accurate (I wish more takes on Gears would that’s the version of the design I vastly prefer) I think they should keep the truth bed being full of leg because it’s very silly and part of his character imo, unless they’re going for the bayverse take which reminds me I need to read those books again.
Didn't Marvel comics have a crossover between Transformers and Spiderman back in the 80's, where Gears died when Spidey accidentally droped Gears off a cliff?

I don't why the instructions call it a hook, it is a welding torch from season one the episode where Optimus got tangled in the falling gantries and crane on the oil drilling deric where they meet Spike and Sparkplug.

@@t0xxical13 Yeah he was. From what I recall he was cancelled at the last minute so it's likely he'll show up in Legacy or SS86. Hopefully Windcharger shows up soon after.

@@wonderfulwalrus5715 The last Gears was the G1 reissue in 2019, and before that it was Generations in 2014. Quite a while indeed.
Gears will appear in TF Legacy United next year .And I'm glad to see 👀 him back.
I was thinking about getting the Swerve version but not sure about the price. Are you planning to review that one or is to similar for you to justify getting it.
How does this Gears scale with WFC minibots like Bumblebee and Cliffjumper? I REALLY want a Gears, but I want him to fit in with my mostly Hasbro/ Takomi figures.
If you want one that scales with generations i recommend tracking down the MFT/Mech Fans Toys Gears. It looks and scales perfectly with wfc/legacy stuff, and the quality is really good!
How do you not have a G1 Gears? I bought an original off eBay for $10 four years ago.
