Though I like PANZER DIVISION a lot, my favourite MARDUK-album is THOSE OF THE UNLIGHT only just a little bit better than the tremendous SERPENT SERMON.
You know Legion was really a dedicated front man with a recognizable voice but Mortuus had really shown expertise and dedication as well. That's hard, to get on stage every night and perform like that for 45 days in a row.
ROM 5:12 is MUCH better than you described it. It is actually way better than Wormwood! Also, you didn't give enough credit to World Funeral, and completely missed pinpointing it's very few bad parts and failed to understand good parts. Additionally, you didn't mention the significance of the trifecta of Nightwing-Panzer-LaGrande them being a nod to Bathory's "philosophy of metal" that it should be about Blood-Fire-Death!
Mortuus by far has the best black metal vocals. I'm so tired of hearing clones in the genre, his weird scream/growling style is so brutal and extreme. Marduk fucking rules.

Rom was awesome and Mortuus is great. And the song is called Accuser/Opposer, not Accuser/Oppressor. But otherwise I mostly agree, it's cool to hear Serpent Sermon get the love it deserves.
Well ever since Marduk found their own style (may it be considered over repeated by many now) Serpent Sermon was the first and only album not to represent the originality of the band.
First of all, thank you for your review, I really liked it. I just wanted to say that Rom 5:12 is a good one. If you are in to more of a old school black metal, that doesn't mean that you have to overrate old era albums and redicule ones that you dislike based on your "old school mark". Personally I don't like early Marduk (not entirely) and I am not alone, we are a legion and we like Rom 5:12

It has clean production because its suits the style of music its made around. Fair enough. i think most people hate them because music they make become big which seems not to be allowed in traditional BM. Its not like they have control over that haha. I mean traditional BM will never go away so other bands can experiment and blend. In reality most bands just copied Bathory with their own touch and later bands copied those bands with their own touch, after all there is only one original and everyone takes from that :)
Hating something because it's popular is the dumbest, most hipster thing someone could do. By that logic, they should hate Bathory and Mayhem as well. I just don't like the direction that Dimmu Borgir went in after Devil's Path, I feel like their early material is damned near flawless. Though to be fair to them, they did change their logo when the changed musically, so I can't say the band didn't warn me that I might not like their new stuff.
Panzer Division Marduk would be up there as possibly my favourite Black Metal album of ALL TIME - well, maybe equal first along with Under A Sign From Hell 2011 - Gorgoroth

Also, how can you be cool with Christraping God's Planet but then say, "Sodomizng" is going too far? LOL.All I know if you love Black Metal and do not like Marduk, you are foolish. I like the videos however Swedish names are not hard to pronounce and could very much do without the opinions just tell the bands story and let the listener decide what they do and do not like. However I appreciate the videos very much so and MARDUK is amazing.
ROM 5:12 is mortuus best vocal performance IMO , and i think most people would agree on that, instead of 7 layers of guitar it's pretty much one track, it's stiped down to basic and pure black metal, if you like a wall of guitars look for some other genres to listen to, i would say that it's their most flavor-full album with seriously awesome guitar riffs, bass riffs and drum parts, they show that they are great musicians on this album IMO. Less personal oppinions when it comes to making a video about a bands history whould look so much more professional, just saying.

Ok my man, a few things here....You chose to do a retrospective of a religious black metal band and you focus on production instead of the words. You missed the point from the start. I Morgan's own words black metal is about religion, not about vocals or guitar sound. What made Legion era Marduk not so good, is that Legion just screams the lyrics, Mortuus uses his voice in a way that fits the lyrical theme and makes the prayers come to life. That "vomiting vocal style" is not a vocal style, read the words of the prayers written on Wormwood and you'll hopefully understand why he sounds that way. If you are not a Satanist or don't care about religion then i really don't understand the point of listening to them. No offense meant by that, i'm just confused. It would be like an atheist going to Church cause he likes the atmosphere....You can do it but you wont get much out of it.

Mortuus saved that band in a way. It gave them something new to work with. Legion was great too. He always sounded like his voice was gonna crack out on him which i love that in him. Jocke Gothberg and Andreas Axelsson were great also. Andreas was more recognized in Edge of Sanity playing guitar. Jocke did vocals on my favorite album Those of the Unlight.
Marduk, probably the BM band I have seen live the most. The first time was on their Opus Nocturne tour, yes I am that old. That was also the first and last time they played songs from Dark Endless live. Their best preformance was the 25 year anniversary show of Those Of The Unlight. The played that whole album in consecutive order and finished it off with the whole Panzer Division album.

I was fortunate enough to have seen Marduk w/ Deicide back in 2001. They were absolutely vicious and one of the best Black Metal bands I've seen. Sad that the lames have to ruin the party and cancel out Marduk...

Well I watched this entire thing thinking maybe you would include Fuck Me Jesus in there somewhere but was sadly disappointed. I don't care that it's not the first official album, it's an utterly indispensable slab of dark heavy metal that should not be overlooked. Noteworthy as an important piece of Marduk's discography and legacy as well as Scandinavian metal in general.

Rom 5:12 was good that's my opinion. They also do some pretty badass Misfits and Samhain covers on the compilation Blackcrowned.
Morgan also has a Misfits/Samhain inspired side project called Devil's Whorehouse. They do some Misfits/Samhain covers too.

Mortuus is so much better than the other vocalists/ Panzer Division Marduk is their grindcore album (don’t recall any double bass on this album. Just straight blasting.)/Rom 5:12 is their best album. Plus, the guy reviewing this is a complete idiot. He’s butchering literally all the song names.

John Zackarias Mortuus sounds more traditional in plague angel, that’s all he was saying. After that album he doesn’t like mortuus, which I personally think is 🔥

As much as I LOVE the early albums, and the first 3 with legion....the stuff with Mortuus is even better...except that newest one Viktoria...that one is weak

The newer catalog, especially Rom 5:12 and Frontschwein are the 2 best they ever did.... You lost me. And i have listened to them since the 90s.
I have learned that the most narrow minded people are purists of BM, nothing makes them happy. I love thrash and death metal soo because they have those roots, I love them even more.

I was fortunate enough to have seen Marduk w/ Deicide back in 2001. They were absolutely vicious and one of the best Black Metal bands I've seen. Sad that the lames have to ruin the party and cancel out Marduk...
I wasnt into them much until i heard world funeral .. awesome ! Love " hearse " and others . Love alot of their stuff i didnt like a year ago oddly . And frontschwein .. 👌👌🥁 love the triplet blast beat running through it . Vocalists always sound demented and serious . Love marduk

Legion was the best frontman ever compared not to all other black metal bands but compared to all bands that ever existed.
A band with a song called "Christ-Raping Black Metal" aren't going to be coy about Muh Nazis. There's an entire subgenre called NSBM - National Socialist Black Metal - and if they were, it wouldn't hurt their career to go down that road.

I don't know romanian language, but as far as I know 'Dracul' means 'Dragon', hence the lineage was part of the christian sect "Order of the Dragon".

Well I watched this entire thing thinking maybe you would include Fuck Me Jesus in there somewhere but was sadly disappointed. I don't care that it's not the first official album, it's an utterly indispensable slab of dark heavy metal that should not be overlooked. Noteworthy as an important piece of Marduk's discography and legacy as well as Scandinavian metal in general.
