I listened to that song in 1977 ❤ when I lived in Hawaii. Great memories from my HS senior year. Never heard it again until now 🤗 I'm happy to listen ❤
i too grew up in keolu Hills Oahu. Back in the late 60's. Attended Kailua High . 75 grad. Recall the local news reporting of the pakalolo fields found...all over.
I heard this song for the first time when visiting Maui in ‘96. ItI played on the radio, and I nearly drove off the Hana Hwy, I was laughing so hard. When the DJ said it was Don Ho, I couldn’t believe it. I’m guessing this wasn’t performed to the mainstream tourists.
My mom used to let us listen to this 45 (yes, I do realize that dates me) and me and my brother would sing and dance to it all day. We didn't realize it was about weed... : )
First songs I remember: Itsy Bitsy Spider (Mom) and this (taught by Dad)! Except we sang it "Who stay be da lolo..." 🎶 Uncle used to take us to his "farm" in Puna. 🤣
I was a busser at a restaurant... ruth's chris on Ala Moana... and Don Ho and family were at my section one day! So I served them water like that... will burn one down now... Jah
My taught was he is Hawaiian, I just find out he's vietnames after check RUclips. I like his voice since 1973. I've been in Hawaii many times. But I've never seen him in person unfortunately. Cause his concert is no seat always. My Mom was his concert at Hilton hotel(?) I met many good entertainer in Hawaii. thanks.
Ho was a singer of Native Hawaiian, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, and German descent this is fact my uncle was a blast i was named after his Brother Everett Ah Fong HO my father was Dennis AhLuke HO
