I play my Xbox a lot and sometimes for whatever reason my controller will not turn on and keep me from playing my games. In this quick guide video, I show you what I usually do and check to get my Xbox controller powered on again and working well. It may seem pretty straight forward, but the issue with your Xbox controller wont turn on is usually because of a battery issue. Either the batteries are completely dead, missing or getting low on power. You also want to check to see if your controller powers on when you hardwire it directly to your Xbox console.

For the people watching this video rolling there eyes cause they know none of this will work and there charger is charged. Just restart your PC lmao. As the PC was turning off I could turn on the controller again without it going out after a second. You went to try the update method and there were no updates. I know, I know 😂😂. This guys video is informative. Just not for people on PC with that problem.

But what about the controller powers on connects and can control games and the Xbox but I have to keep the Xbox button pressed in and once I let off complete disconnection and turns off
Some other helpful tips. Make sure that you are not holding your controller upside down. Do not operate the controller in the ocean. Are you holding your controller or is it actually a banana? Make sure you are connecting to an Xbox One and not a 1986 Chevy Cavalier. Ensure that the lights are on in your house, controllers will not work during a power outage.

The light on my controllers home button keeps flickering. Idk how to fix it, also, the light has now fully cut out and the controller doesnt respond to a usb or battery connection. Please help
Are you using fresh batteries? If so, maybe try cleaning the battery contacts.

When I connect it to a usb or a charger it just makes a little noise in the controller and, it gets hot next to the arrows. Can you help with that??

Ugh just boughtthe xbox x for Christmas for my son and now it doesnt turn on with any of these methods. Havent tried the hard wire but that kinda defeats the purpose of wireless. Will Microsoft cover a conteoller when buying the whole console?
It is under warranty for sure and they should replace it if necessary. Before going that route, I would try unplugging the console from the wall. Wait 30 seconds plug it back in and retest.

Brother, I’ve been using my series s controller without batteries and lately it’s been dying on me and now won’t turn on.
So you have playing it hard wired? Have tried unplugging your console from power, waiting 30 seconds ans plugging it back in? Sometimes a good old hard reset fixes things.

Does anyone have any tips on what to do? My wireless controller was acting fine when I first got it, turned it on and connected it, but the next day it would not connect, and I tried taking the batteries out and re-putting them in but after I did that my controller wouldn't turn on at all and plugging it in to a USB port wouldn't work and I tried everything in the video.
I would try unplugging your console from power for 30 seconds, plug it back in and then re test.

I was trying to get my Internet to start and it said try restarting something and it said wait a few minutes before turning it back on but whenever I tried a few minutes later it wouldn't turn on and it does this for all the controllers and I tried everything in the video

I was using my xbox controller just 5 minutes ago playing RUclips videos and went to use it and it wouldnt turn on. instantly tried plugging it in and still wouldnt power on. must be a hardware issue that's so strange I was just using it and set it down on the table lightly lol.
Maybe check the battery prongs and give them a quick clean with a little rubbing alcohol

Have you verified the cord works by connecting it somewhere else? Maybe try replacing the batteries and ensure the battery prongs are not dirty or bent.
Needing batteries for controllers in 2024 is literally insane.
Buy some Amazon rechargeable ones. They work well and last a long time

The problem I've got is that the pack is charging, the little green light comes on the pack when it's plugged in but the minute you take the cable out it doesn't work. Microsoft if you see this know that none of the playstation controllers do this. Since the PS1 every single controller I had worked and still works to this day. Since the 360 however I've gone through more xbox controllers than I have dirty socks. Why are they so bad at making things that don't randomly break? Do Land Rover make their stuff or something?
Lol. So true. Land Rover does make pretty crummy stuff. Is your controller still under warranty? Have you tried cleaning the battery contacts on your controller? Sometimes the battery prongs may be bent preventing good contact.

Brand new controller, brand new Microsoft battery, the plug and play kit. And the controller only turns on if I put pressure on the battery with the cover off. Good video, but it didn't fix it. Guess my next step is to exchange the remote

if none of these work, change the batteries, plug the controller into the pc or phone charger and leave it for 30mins. Then turn it on.

I tried all this and it just wont work. i was cleaning it and opened it up so i can clean gunk off and put it back together, i even put new batteries and it just wont turn on i probably broke it or something.
Edit: I found the issue, turns out the other side for the batteries I didnt align them to stick where the batteries need to go

You can use a little water. Just make sure it's fully dry and evaporated before putting the batteries back in!

figured it out had to open up the controller and straighten some pins
if anyone else has this issues the pins on the left can be bent out of place. you may have to open up the controller and fix them that way it's what was the issue for me

He must think people are really stupid. The capacitors burn out on the circuit board in the controller. Sony makes their own capacitors in all of their products and Microsoft uses cheap chineese capacitors. Paansonic and Sony make 10,000hr capacitors in Japan, and China makes 1,000hr capacitors. So the Sony last 10x longer than Microsofts capacitors. This is why you never see any Sony product or Panasonic with failed capacitors. So Microsoft really does have the worst circuit boards in products. It's a failed 3 cent SMD capacitor in the Xbox controller that go bad. It only cost 3 pennys. 🤣 That's why it failed. You get 300 for 3 dollars from China with free shippling. I have 9 year old PS4 controller that still works and a 40 year old digital Panasonic alarm clock still working.
