They’re good looking cars. Not a shortage of them for sale here in the UK 🇬🇧 and usually relatively cheap unless it’s a 4.2 supercharged with low mileage. Hope you enjoy!
Had one for six years in uk. Nice drive,I see he has been working on the cooling system,if it tells you it’s low on coolant but looks ok it’s because the float in the expansion tank sinks in modern coolant just bridge the sensor wire.also the tracking that all the garages will tell you is correct will wear the tyres and cause wandering steering so look up alternative settings on jag forums. Merry Christmas!!
My sister-in-law bought a used 3.0 Jaguar S-Type when she finished her Board exams to become a pediatrician. It was her dream car. She drove it over 150,000 miles, and it was actually quite reliable. Hers was a deep blue with tan interior.
I forgot that they had the S type in the manual, I had an X type manual sport 3.0 and it was a great car. The getrag 5 speed manual was not particularly engaging, or precise, and it could’ve used a six gear. plugging around the all wheel drive. I didn’t feel that fast, but it was fun and it was unique and super reliable.
6.9 to 60 isn't bad considering there's a shift involved. The early 911s that did sub 5 second to 60 did it all in 1st gear because they were 4 speeds. Just to be safe you should just pop the hood on any potential car you're buying and if the struts are good run away as fast as possible.
@@Darylrb1983 I had an early XF 6 speed auto with the final hurrah of that engine. It was the slowest model in the range at the time but it was wiling enough and would happily rev in order to locate the elusive torque.
On my 2005 Ford Taurus SE, The serpentine belt recently broke. When I went to check it out, I found the hood struts were shot. I probably hadn't opened the hood since late summer and they were holding then. At least it's a minor repair. In addition to the belt, the alternator failed as well so I have one on order.
Think I heard you say "the S-Type replaced the XJ6". Not true, JR! The XJ series is the "S-Class" of the Jags. The S-Type is a mid-range model in between the X-Type and the XJ series! LOVE your channel. You actually work on your cars (unlike another RUclipsrs)! PS You have a great S-Type with a lot of work done already! Rare to find in that condition!
Nice find JR - I don't think I've even seen a manual version of these in the wild. I ended up finding an '05 S-Type R after you and Samcrac bought yours back in the day and I brought it back from the dead with a trans service, new plugs and coil packs. I drove it a couple years before selling to Carmax for a profit with 181,000 miles in order to buy my '04 Bentley Arnage T that I currently still own (and love). You mention the sister car, the Lincoln LS - you are right, they are VERY hard to find in good shape. I owned 2 of them before my S-Type - an '03 LS V8 and an '04 LSE V8. The LSE was the fancy/sporty model with special wheels, round fog lights/aero kit, less chrome trim and solid red tail lights. They are great driving cars, but "finicky" to say the least, especially with transmissions and brittle plastic components in the cooling systems. If you find one, try to stick to Gen 2 (03-06) as they are at least a "little" more reliable than the 1st gens, but that may not be saying a lot. Keep up the great work, your channel is the best!
Years ago I was looking through ads for used Lincoln LS available in the area. I came across an LS with a manual. Man, I would have liked to buy that car!
I got a whole new respect for you man! I am a big fan of the Police. Nice music to cruise to. I hope it warms up for you down there. In NH it was 45 deg and supposed to be in the 50's in the next day or so. Take care and Happy New Year! -Jon
I had a 2004X type 3.0 Sport Manual with the Alpine and it was fantastic. I also had a 2008 XJ with Alpine and it wasn’t as good as the X Type for some reason. Then a 2011 XF with the Bowers and Wilkins which sounded great, just a bit better than the alpine in the X type somehow🤦♂️🤷🏻♂️
I think you got a good deal. The lack of sat nav I wouldn’t worry about. I have a 2008 X-Type 2.2 sport manual and the last update disc is 2012. That said it still works better than some newer models 😂.
I had a 2003 x-type 2 L diesel with nav system. For some strange reason the navi was starting but didn't show the actual position. But having a touch screen on a 2003 car, that was super nice. There are many cars these days that don't have a touch screen system. My 2011 BMW 1 series, was fitted with a small screen CIC navi, but no touch screen. I replaced it with an Android 10 HU, now it's way better than before. Some guys on Jag forum manage to create an Android version of the original navi, but implied pretty much modifications on the system. I loved my x-type, absolutely beautiful the one you had, 2.2 engine with 6 speed and up to 155 HP. I also like XJ with 2.7 L diesel, from 2005 - 2009 model. Very similar with x type, but longer. I'm not so much in love with s type, that front end is not so appealing to me, but I think it's a really nice car overall.
I always set the parking brake in manual cars. If the car's not on a hill, i leave the manual trans in neutral as well. The reason is if you don't use them, they'll stop working or they'll stick on when someone else uses them in your car. Also in my sub-arctic climate, in the winter the cables will freeze to the surface rust and require the whole car to go in a warm space for hours unless the parking brake is used frequently enough. The thing with (most) manual parking brakes is that they're completely manual, operated by cable and they don't really wear unless they stick halfway on because some idiot didn't regularly use them. Just use them and they'll require extremely minimal maintenance. They're called E- (for emergency) brakes for a reason. Imagine the master cylinder failing leaving you with no hydraulic brakes and then yanking the parking/e-brake and it's inoperable... In an auto car, i'll just stick it in park. If the car's on a hill, i'll use the parking brake. Naturally, i'm a hypocrite =) The parking brake on an auto is WAY more likely to stick on and create problems, but hey, i'm not in San Fransisco and the P mode is plenty good 99.9% of the time!
Good looking car. I wanted the Lincoln LS but they were all over priced locally. The manual trans is definitely rare and cool for such a luxury auto. I am looking forward to you working your magic on it. Happy Holidays to you and the camera lady....YTM!
@@richardguerra5281 I heard the v8s have lots of problems. My v6 has no issues other than regular maintenance and it sees 7250 rpms on a daily basis ( raised from 6800 ). Owned a Lincoln with the manual for 15 years and 160K miles. bought it used with 30K. Twitchy steering is the rear track links. When they get loose the car wanders. Change them and check alignment. Manual is great. gears are well spaced. I'd shift from 5th to 3rd when passing. 3rd allows a top speed of almost 100 and drops you into the power band when at highway speeds.
We had a 2002 2.5 L one. It was pretty reliable for us (although the 4wd transfer box is a known weak point - not helped as the oil filler hole is lower than oil level, so refilling the oil in theory required removing the transfer box). A lambda probe failed, and a couple of rear suspension links. Ate headlight bulbs - averaged a bulb every month or so (on the drivers side a cable tie around the metal clip on the cover over the back of the headlight makes changing the bulbs a lot easier). Spark plugs on the rear bank was a bit if a pain. Pressing the clutch caused the brake lights to flash. In theory this requires a new pedal box. I fixed it by gluing a thin bit of plastic of the tip of the brake switch. Real odd problem was the central locking failing to work. Problem turned out to be the tiny flap over the ignition key slot. This was sticking, which caused the car to think the ignition key was still in place.
Here in the UK with salt on the roads its nearly always the rot that destroys them especially sills which just disintegrate , nice sounding engines and great to drive though.
Nice cars, I've had mine for over 6 yrs, has 170k kms. Love the motor and 5 Spd, best combo for this car. It's my summer car. My winter car is an auto AWD Jag wagon! Hold the parking brake handle to off when you remove the key and the parking brake will stay off.
I just did a three part series on my 04 S Type. Great car, can't wait to get it finished. The electric parking brake works on the automatics as well. I hate them also. I see your dash is cracked in the same place mine is. I also noticed your engine coolant low message. I paid $200 for mine, well worth it.
Enjoying these vids JR, thanks! The leaping cat was banned from being fitted to UK cars from factory by the EU! But you could buy one from the dealer and fit it to your new Jaaaaag as an ‘after market accessory’ and that was totally legal 🤷🏻♂️
@@musikdrengen02 They were deemed a danger to pedestrians in case of collision. Rolls-Royce solved it by making their ornaments spring-loaded. There's nothing inherently illegal about aftermarket ornaments, or at least a case involving injury caused by them hasn't been tested in court yet.
Back when it was profitable to buy salvage vehicles and rebuild them, I tried to buy one of these. It was silent auction so I was really close to winning I think I lost by like $100. Always liked these
@@wernerdanler2742 I always loved Morse's Jaguar. It was a Jaguar Mark 2, which was released in 1959 in the UK and carried on until its production ended in 1967.
Hi JR, As an Englishman, the reason we pronounce Route and not Rauwt is because we stole the word from the French, it was Routier, or Routiea. We then cut it down so you colonials could still manage to try and speak English, I guess we should have tried harder. 🤣🤣🤣
I`m a Jag guy, so I have to point a couple of things out, sorry! 1. The S-Type was never a replacement for the XJ, it was supposed to be a "compact executive" 3-Series competitor, & 2. They never did an S-Type wagon, that was the X-Type (totally different car). Other than that, seems great for 2 bags! I had an early 3.0 manual & found it great! Especially the economy, which at 27-35mpg, was comfortably double the average of the XJ`s I had at the same time. The only fault I remember was the HVAC distribution block seizing, which meant no hot air, other than that, it was fine.
I had one in BRG from new. Great car. The only issue I had I was driving out on the New Jersey Turnpike to give it to shipper to sell it and my fuel pump went out. I put a little over 50,000 miles on it in about eight years.
I’m glad to see you got another s type. I love the color but the amenities are poor. No heated seats in a leather interiored car is a big no no. I also miss the beautiful wood grain accents from the wheel what i had in mine and the electric adjustable pedal row. I bet you don’t have the adjustable lombard support too. The sound system was okay to me as well i had the disc changer in the trunk. I would love to see you fixing up and upgrading the car with factory parts like heated seats, navigation etc. The s type is a very great car and it’s absolutely bringing the real Jaaaaag driving experience.
If the lights are pointing low, the adjuster inside may be broken. I had an 05 STR facelift but with the Brembos, only sold it because its value went crazy during the end of pandemic
Yes, that’s pretty common for those headlight beam adjuster gears to wear out. I believe there is a company that makes these aftermarket, but out of metal, instead of plastic...
This is perfect JR. Vid is 20 some min, car is either from 90's / 2000's, Jake appears and it's a budget flip. OG JR ftw. Please in the Spring, get another Z33 and do her the right way - no Hookers this time.
Your next car should be the XF Supercharged. They are hidden gem cars with insane performance for the money. Only the 2009 model got the bulletproof 4.2 Supercharged and they should be cheap in Kansas. Consider them.
I bought a beautiful one owner fully loaded facelift 06 example which I got for believe it or not £300/$350 and it was lovely and even was rot free, with a MOT… I got mine so cheap because Jaaaaag refused to give the owner anything in PX on a new one and the owner was a work college. My Dad had the motor and it was very reliable and the only fault it ever had, was if it stood for a week or so the EML would very occasionally come on due to the battery going flat, but my £10 code reader would sort it out no problem. I wish I kept it as it was a lovely example, but I got my Dad an R50 as it was easier to park in the small supermarket car parking spaces over here. But do check the sills for rot.
@WatchJRGo I've always wanted to see you mess with a Thunderbird Supercoupe. I'm sure I don't need to explain what it is but I just feel like one is right up your alley. They're still cheap and they're just 80s cool.
If I don't recall the S-type is the same car as the Lincoln LS which is pretty cool because the LS was offered with the manual transmission as well. My grandma had a 3.9 LS back in 2015. it was a pretty stout car and I loved it just as much as she did!
If the dog don't like it, get rid of it. My golden retriever barked at my dad for a few day's before he died from a ruptured aorta. I have seen another dog do the same thing, crazy. Nice looking car, a wrap might look good on her. I like the look of this better than the Infiniti you just bought, cooler front end.
Oops, disregard my prior comment thought it was an 02 at first. But I do think you’re onto something with the headlights because it’s oddly low trimmed (the manuals almost always are on the LS and the S Type) and HIDs were almost always restricted to the highest trim levels in that generation. The X type was even more of a challenge to get them on. Headlights have to be worth a chunk of change by themselves regardless.
My brother-in-law bought one of these used and thought it was pretty special, so he always took it to a Jag dealer for service. I used to yell at him, "Jim, it's a Ford! Anybody can fix this!"
I had an 07 3.0 V6 auto I sold it only a few weeks ago I kept for a year and it was excellent nothing ever went wrong with it honestly I'd have another one in a heartbeat.
Aww Truffles doesn't like the manual S!!! How funny.... I'd say you got a smooth deal on this one JR, and when you're ready to sell it, you should make a decent profit.
If I could go to pick up the Jaguar with Watch Jr Goes and 100% Jakes I would drink the shot of whiskey and cold Bartle Skeets with them and pack up the Hash Pipe with Rocky with them and get all schmoked up
Great video! I wonder if these really had a Jaguar head on the V6 engine, because this Ford/Mazda engine had variable valve timing on a Mazda, but not on the Ford version. So, maybe it's just the version with Mazda heads. (Please correct me if I'm wrong)
Why would you prefer the gearbox keeping the car in place instead of the emergency brake? If the car is parked on a flat surface, it doesn't affect that much, but as soon as there is a bit of a slope, I prefer the brakes to do the work and not the gearbox. It doesn't matter if it's a manual or automatic, I always put the car in neutral, then use the parking brake (or emergency brake, whatever is called where you live), release the normal brake so the car settles and then I put it on P or 1st gear or reverse (depending on the slope). This way the brakes do what they are designed to do and the gearbox doesn't have any part in tension. I know automatic gearboxes have a specific lever to "lock" the gearbox, but not the manual ones. The latter rely on the compression of the engine to keep the car in place, so I think it's much better to use the brakes.
Funny story, I owned one of these my hood latch didnt catch one day, I was traveling down the highway about 2 a.m. an the hood blew open. That metal Jag symbol shattered my sunroof an the hood shattered the windshield. So happy I was alone in the car so no one could hear me scream like a little girl when it happened. $800 windshield because it had heated wiring in the bottom an a cutout area for the rain sensing wipers.
I fixed on for on of my customers over and over for the past 3 years, replace every cooling hose, the vacuum hoses it’s the same as every early 2000 ford, the pump usually it’s a ford part the spark plugs are unnecessary difficult
Also , the early generation of these S-types had a small draw in the dash, in the place where the optional GPS unit would go.. My first employer had a ‘99 S-type V8.
Jag guy incoming... lol. Great video WatchJRGo! Pretty fair assessment of the S - Type- it wasn't a replacement for the XJ6 though, it was aimed at the 5 series BMW or Merc E class. Worth checking the sills for rust, a known weak point on them in snow countries. Oh and the Jaguar V8 was in development before the Ford purchase and at least in 4 liter version only shared a sump plug but it was manufactured in the Ford engine factory in wales and the Lincon LS got the non VVT version.
Rare being white, rarer being a manual! I love jags, I've owned 9 in the last 8 years, but I would call them anything but reliable lol. If they don't break down often the rust will get em instead. Great content though 😉
You need to set the parking brake on a manual transmission. If the car gets hit while it is parked the brake will keep it from running away. The transmission can let go easily.

Enjoying these vids JR, thanks! The leaping cat was banned from being fitted to UK cars from factory by the EU! But you could buy one from the dealer and fit it to your new Jaaaaag as an ‘after market accessory’ and that was totally legal 🤷🏻♂️
Isnt it because people stole them?
@@musikdrengen02 They were deemed a danger to pedestrians in case of collision. Rolls-Royce solved it by making their ornaments spring-loaded. There's nothing inherently illegal about aftermarket ornaments, or at least a case involving injury caused by them hasn't been tested in court yet.
UK left the EU years ago. Look up Brexit.
@@houseofno now what has brexit got to do with anything lol? @rossfield8850's comment is in past tense bud
@@houseofno I’m British, so I’m pretty caught up on Brexit, thanks. In 2003 (when this Jag was made), the UK was still in the EU.
Back when it was profitable to buy salvage vehicles and rebuild them, I tried to buy one of these. It was silent auction so I was really close to winning I think I lost by like $100. Always liked these
These have that retro look of the 60s years. Kinda neat. I always liked these over their other models except the E type.
Happy New Year, JR!
@@waynepantry7023 You're probably right. Chief inspector Morse had one in the PBS series "Morse."
@@wernerdanler2742 I always loved Morse's Jaguar. It was a Jaguar Mark 2, which was released in 1959 in the UK and carried on until its production ended in 1967.
@EdithHead Thanks, Edith!
If you've watched Endeavor, his DCI Thursday has one, too.
Some retro cars are hideous but they did a pretty good (subtle) job on this one. It's more timeless than anything.
Going 80 at 3rpm with sport mode off. I would check egr and replace the maf your hurting her every time u drive till it’s fixed
I never understood why those were not popular, i like the face it has…..not to mention the jumping kitty!
Great looking car IMO 💯
I'm very much looking forward to seeing the process of giving this rare kitty a new lease on life!
5 series competitor.
@@paulsengupta971 It was priced at mid to high spec 3 Series, despite being closer to the 5 in size
Lovely. What a car. At the price has to be a super buy. Hope you can get what you need OK. Greetings from the UK.
I had one in BRG from new. Great car. The only issue I had I was driving out on the New Jersey Turnpike to give it to shipper to sell it and my fuel pump went out. I put a little over 50,000 miles on it in about eight years.
These are the type of videos that your normal viewers can relate to. Good Job!
Yooooo that’s a steal! Good deal!! I cannot wait for the content on this!!!
Police greatest hits in a jag! You were practically here in the UK my friend. Great work 👏
I’m glad to see you got another s type.
I recently came across a gorgeous blue jag with a manual, was super surprised.
Personally I would go for the x-type wagon.
Nice car! 👍 needs a bath and detail inside and out. After some TLC fixing everything that’s broken somebody will have a sweet cheap Jag! Cool deal!
Dont forget the cabin filter.
I have seen a couple of these manual s type on copart. Wasn't sure how rare they were. I do own a $300 xtype manual in white with the 2.5 duratec.
It's Christmas again.
Back to the hoopties.
Yay 👍👍
This is perfect JR. Vid is 20 some min, car is either from 90's / 2000's, Jake appears and it's a budget flip. OG JR ftw. Please in the Spring, get another Z33 and do her the right way - no Hookers this time.
The flatness of Kansas freaks me out -- no mountains to judge distance.
I drove through it once, weird just flat
Look up brutal’s tyre alignment for the correct settings👍
Watch Jaguar go !
But do check the sills for rot.
i'd like to see you try and restore that wheel, seen some cool dyes and kits that might a cool video
I have a 2001 S-type with the 3.0 in it. to change the plugs you will have to take off the intake. Not really a hard thing to do.
This is now my favorite Hooptie channel.
Thanks for watching! 🍻
@WatchJRGo I've always wanted to see you mess with a Thunderbird Supercoupe. I'm sure I don't need to explain what it is but I just feel like one is right up your alley. They're still cheap and they're just 80s cool.
Nice find. Another great car that needs a little JR love.
Car might have a toe problem. Check alignment. I know you said it tracks straight but a twitchy front end can mean the car lacks toe
Another great video from JR. Thanks
If I don't recall the S-type is the same car as the Lincoln LS which is pretty cool because the LS was offered with the manual transmission as well. My grandma had a 3.9 LS back in 2015. it was a pretty stout car and I loved it just as much as she did!
The 3.9 ls after 02 are in the low 5s to 60 but the ones 02 and prior are kinda meh
I have had an 06 S-Type 3.0 since 2015 and it's been dead reliable!
You know y I love ur channel, u give these wonderfully classic cars a chance..
They make Android type complete replacement head units for these, listing for 04/09.
Mirror is impossible to reconnect, I bought a aftermarket replacement, new mirror replacement (with proper bracket) is close to 400 bucks
Any idea where I can get a less expensive gearbox or just the sump for my jaguar s type 2007 shipped to Ghana?
Nice car. Good luck with it. Nice to seexJake in your video. I hope his back is better.
The seller got tired of throwing money into an old Jag, can't blame him.
My brother-in-law bought one of these used and thought it was pretty special, so he always took it to a Jag dealer for service. I used to yell at him, "Jim, it's a Ford! Anybody can fix this!"
I love the S Type 3.0, those 3.0's are pretty good engines John Ross and really not that bad to work on...👍🙂👍🇬🇧🇺🇲🇬🇧🇺🇲
I had an 07 3.0 V6 auto I sold it only a few weeks ago I kept for a year and it was excellent nothing ever went wrong with it honestly I'd have another one in a heartbeat.
The center console if you pull up and move it to one side then the other it will open, I guess something in the latch breaks and doesn't open
I guess the “P” on the lever for the E-brake must be a marketing thing for “Performance”
Looks like you paid $1990 for it now. 😂😂
I just bought a Vacuum sealer my life has changed
That checks out... vacuum sealing things is so much fun 💯
Just replaced my foodsaver vacuum sealer with a vacmaster 350 pro. No longer automatic bag making but it works every time I use it.
You can fit a car in a vacuum sealer?!! Wow!!
🔰
@Nowhereman couldn't find a bag big enough
@@OnTourWithPattiSmithyup. Just ask Richard Hammond.
Wouldn't have touched that steering wheel without rubber gloves.
I fixed on for on of my customers over and over for the past 3 years, replace every cooling hose, the vacuum hoses it’s the same as every early 2000 ford, the pump usually it’s a ford part the spark plugs are unnecessary difficult
Found a car on Hoovie’s page, eats supper at Freddy’s, yep, this deal helps Hoovie’s, the seller, and JR!
This must be a super base model, as it doesn't really have any options.
Most have heated seats, sunroof, etc.
I had one didnt even know they came without sunroofs.
You know.... Your last S-type (black as I remember) was where it all startede and when I started following you on RUclips 👍
Happy new year to you and your family, and good fortune for 2023.
Love the luxury cars but nothing beats my 95 Corolla wagon. 280k and absolutely nothing wrong with it. Just keeps going with ice cold AC ☺️
You had me at wagon.
Dude you're a content machine! Chugga chugga, chugga chugga chugga chooo chooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
You adding the " from the truck" part when talking about Jake had be dieing expecially the face be makes when u said it
This sounds like more fun than my manual transmission Accord 😂
I had a 2.5 and loved every day I had it,, someone T boned me , I drove away with an annoyance my car was damaged , he had his written off
Soon as I saw the thumbnail I knew you bought that one from the HOOVIES group for 2,000 bucks honestly it looks pretty decent
You need to set the parking brake on a manual transmission. If the car gets hit while it is parked the brake will keep it from running away. The transmission can let go easily.
