Tbh, when I first heard about that, I kind of thought it was a reference to him no longer being Megamind's minion, but his equal, but no, that wasn't it lol
My least favorite part about Uprising is how terrible the Jägers move and are filmed. In the first movie, the Jägers movement was slow, always felt a little delayed and when they wanted to make a fast motion, they had to build up the speed to do it first. Plus, they were always filmed from an angle that complimented their size. Most of the shots feel like they could've been filmed by a bystander on the street, on a rooftop or from a news helicopter. They FEEL gigantic In Uprise, they move as if they're Transformers. Sure they feel sorta big, heavy and slow but not nearly to the extent that their size and weight would suggest.
it make sense in universe wise, but i still hate it so much. i don't care if the Jaeger is faster or slower, but they could've complimented the size with good cinematography. even if the Jaeger is fast, they still can feel gigantic. and my problem is not only the faster jaeger, but the movement felt like it's a motion captured. the first one feel mechanical. to make it worse, i don't give a shit about the pilot. sure, even in the first one the character is paper thin, but man do they feel iconic. the Russian, the Chinese triplet, even Rayleigh is iconic af.
I feel that in uprising, they feel like just people in suits, like some power rangers type stuff. I don’t like how they’re using wips and giant swords and doing acrobatics and kicks
Fun Fact: For Son of the Mask, Jack Black and Ryan Reynolds both turned down the role of Tim Avery. Michael J. Fox was also considered for the role of Loki.
Fun fact: I watched Son of the Mask as a kid without knowing what The Mask was and actually enjoyed it. Then I tried rewatching it recently and couldn't finish it.
My biggest issue with Pacific Rim Uprising was how they completely changed the aesthetic, Del Toro has a unique grungy style of set dressing and lighting that makes the world feel actually lived-in. Meanwhile, everything in uprising just gives off a cheap sterile vibe, which kinda makes sense since it's the future and all that, but it just makes everything look artificial, like a disney theme park. I MIGHT have been able to excuse the mediocre plot if they had kept the look and feel of the first movie, but as it is now, I don't ever feel like watching it again, which is rare for someone who likes dumb monster movies as much as me. Btw, you're not nitpicking when you say the jeagers moved better in the original. Pretty much everyone who's seen both movies agrees the sequel would have looked infinitely better if they had that sense of weight.
agree to that. Uprising was really missing those cinematographic touches the first movie had to sell you how big the robots are. It's quite lacking that sense of scale to make you believe you are witnessing the Jagers move from your point of view
Honestly pacific rim uprising had one of the biggest missed plot because of the drone kaiju being able to open a portal. If they were still present for the battles, it would felt so hopeless there would be an army of kaiju and Jaeger kaiju against 4 Jaeger they would have to find the best plan because they literally had no choice but no that whole thing was destroyed in a matter of seconds causing 3 kaijus to get out when a lot of them could have shown up
It's kind of funny how Megamind is a big presentation junkie to where it's a big moment in the movie's climax that that's the difference between a villain and a super villain, but now they can't use that part of his character because the budget for the presentation in the sequel is crumbs.

@@gracekim1998 yeah, fair enough, I didn’t mean to come off as harsh for the kid show, it’s fine really for an introduction, and the hate for nine realms comes from the poor dragon designs, characters and just lack of what the original story had
6:07 it would’ve been a lot better if instead Megamind said something along the lines of “ y’know Minion, minion sounds like an evil underling kind of name that doesn’t do you justice for being my best friend. So how about we come up with a new name? “ “ how about ol’ chum? “ “ No, never that. “
Honestly from what I've heard of Jamie Kennedy's behind the scenes story of son of the mask, I genuinely feel bad for him and how poorly the film was treated at the studio, hopefully someday we the orginal cut of the film with concepts they initially had for it .
Im still surprised not many people talked about how similar the plot and writing is for both Pacific Rim 2 and Independence Day 2. Glad diamondbolt mentioned it at the end.
The biggest issue with Uprising is the fact that Del Toro didn’t make it. He has this specific vibe that he puts into his movies that’s just impossible to replicate. And you’re also right about the Jaegers being way too fast and not being different enough from each other. They move like they’re Gundams that are a fraction of a the size. It’s just one of those things that should’ve waited until they were able to get the right people aboard.
Mr. Bolt, I must say that the Turbo show is actually pretty peak. Like, I don't know how but they managed to make the humor and world seem better than it should.
They should have just made Minion’s name change a character development moment. Megamind could have realised that he wasn’t a lesser but an equal, a friend, a chum. Like why make a joke about a legal dispute?
The worst part about Megamind 2 was finding out that the director was Eric Fogel, creator of The Head and Celebrity Death Match. Finding that out was me seeing his EP credit from another reviee, and then saying 'No no no no' out loud for 30 seconds until I got to the Wikipedia page for the movie. I think I died a little inside after that.
It's not Megamind 2. It's not a sequal, it's a TV spin-off. Just like the Shrek Halloween special is not a sequel to the Shrek movies (alto it is arguably better than the 3rd and 4th movies)
14:58 I think I know what you're talking about. (I'm going to plagiarism this from somewhere I don't know, likely some review of Uprising) You see, the original Pacific Rim's cinematography was grounded. When they're filming a giant robot, they always have the camera act like it's on a helicopter or something because it makes it feel more real. They could have the camera go wherever they wanted because it was all CGI, but they chose not to because it made it more grounded. Uprising does none of this. It just moves around however it wants without any form of groundedness. Same thing with the Jaegers; they don't have the same weight anymore.
When it comes to what happens after a movie like Pacific Rim, my mind always goes to "humans have wiped out 80-95 percent of wildlife after the one thing that could keep them in check was stopped." Probably because that's how humanity is in real life, thanks to their god complex.
I agree about the new jaegers looking the same. In the first movie we got Gipsy Danger, Striker Eureka, Cherno Alpha, and Crimson Typhoon. In Uprising we got Gipsy Avenger, Obsidian Fury, the woman jaeger, the one with the mace, and the one with a whip.
I love how you actually took the effort to explain each movie’s circumstances instead of just tearing into them. It made the moments where you cut loose on them that much funnier. One thing that I’ve been thinking about is why am I excited for GVK despite it looking and feeling like Pacific Rim 2, and I think the reason why GVK works where Uprising fails is Godzilla as a franchise has already established a sillier more fun tone with the Showa era movies, and GVK is essentially a tribute to those past films. A buddy-cop film with Godzilla and Kong as our main characters is so ridiculously stupid that you can’t help but not to love it. Pacific Rim 1 made such an incredible effort to make the Jaegers feels like real, working machines, with plates shifting and gears clanking, Uprising doesn’t do this and it suffers as a result, and punches don’t have the same impact without that buildup. Or maybe Kong riding Godzilla into battle is just fucking awesome
Correct. You can clearly tell that these are guys in suits on a miniature set. So obliviously, they won’t have any weight. Despite Haruo Nakajima being a fucking juggernaut in his prime.
The fact that Guillermo del Toro did not return to director's movie should speak volumes as to why it did not work as well as the first film. Was even worse, is that there was actually plans to tie this thing into the monster verse to make it a sort of Supergirl arrowverse thing. But because Pacific rim 2 happened, those plans were quickly trashed and there is no interest in continuing the story. If they ever do makeup Pacific rim 3, I think it'd be best off to just make a movie that completely ignores Pacific rim 2 and acts like it is the real Pacific rim 2 in its place. I miss it when movies did that.
The issue I have with the “Don’t judge Megamind too harshly because it’s for kids” thing is that if they weren’t depending on fans of the movie to watch it then why make it Megamind to begin with?
I unironically like Pacific Rim uprising. I hate that you're right about the doom syndicate looking like Miraculous villans because now I can't unsee it
I remember watching Pacific Rim 2 when it came out. I remember it sucking. I did not remember a single thing that was discussed in this video, like genuinely the only scene that triggered any memory whatsoever was the fossilized kaiju from the start. I didn't know a movie could be so bad that I would forget literally everything that happened in it.
The situation of Megamind reminds me Aladdin situation. After Aladdin 2 came animated series. Only Al and Jasmine were couple who had amazing adventures and villains (especially “goth”villain).
The sidekick girl was just another mary sue can easilly hit Minion's mech suit with her stick or use her smartphone as radar what a joke they complety ruined Megamind
The Mask was originally a comic book series made by Dark Horse Comics (the guys behind Hellboy, Sin City, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the Star Wars comics), so if you want the lore behind it, that's a good place to start. It'd be cool to see you review some wild comics like the Mask or that one superhero parody comic about a prostitute superhero :D Or the Boys comics, they're absolutely wild and very different from the show, playing out more like a gorey parody than a serious thing.
Dude I just realized that no sequel to a "we're bringing the fight to them" ending was ever made. Predators, Pacific Rim 2, Independence Day 2, none got a sequel.
I know people complain about Ralph Breaks the Internet, but as a child who survived the Direct to DVD sequels era of Disney Ralph was nowhere near those levels, and if you say it is, you haven't watched Hunchback of Notre Dame 2
15:14 no, character designs and being distinct from each other is a perfectly valid thing to critique, especially when the fighting styles/looks are part of what you like about the first movie. It’s more fun that way, right? It’s more valid than most the things cinemasins has probably “critiqued”
To be fair they likely did it because universal who owns dreamworks also owns illumination and minion is also the name of a despicable me character so they probably wanted to distance it so parents looking up toys for mega mind wouldn’t get toys of minions

Pacific Rim’s main theme sounds awesome. It’s a level of epic that fits a world where big robots beat the crap out of big monsters.
Race to Edge (one of the how to train your dragon shows), is one of the best shows and one of the best things to come from the movies
I was shocked that Megamind had a video game, but at least it’s better than the sequel.
There is no sequel, only a pilot to a spin-of TV show.
6:26 just because something is for kids it doesn’t need to be bad
We have Ben 10, Generator Rex, Avatar the last airbender and even Teen Titans
And heck Tom and Jerry and sonic boom and even the Amazing World of Gumball are hilarious for both adults and kids
Honestly a review of kung fu panda legends of awesomeness, penguins of Madagascar and HTTYD riders/defenders of berk sounds like it'd be fun.
Megamind 2 villains in a nutshell: miraculous ladybug villain reject, bomb voyage, the Yu-Gi-Oh lava golem card, and your average DnD warlock.
It's not Megamind 2
It's not a sequal, but a TV spin-off
5:19 The Mime whenever I see him just reminds me of Bomb Voyage from the Incredible
5:24 Isn’t that the plot of Despicable me 3?
And still Theo changed minion Name to Chum
The issue I have with the “Don’t judge Megamind too harshly because it’s for kids” thing is that if they weren’t depending on fans of the movie to watch it then why make it Megamind to begin with?
8:05 What Is Ferris Bueller’s economics teacher doing this
Yes been waiting for you to cover the peak that is Megamind2
I unironically like Pacific Rim uprising. I hate that you're right about the doom syndicate looking like Miraculous villans because now I can't unsee it
I remember watching Pacific Rim 2 when it came out. I remember it sucking. I did not remember a single thing that was discussed in this video, like genuinely the only scene that triggered any memory whatsoever was the fossilized kaiju from the start. I didn't know a movie could be so bad that I would forget literally everything that happened in it.
7:22 i feel the need to mention that one The Mask cartoon series, say whatever you want, that shit was awesome.
plus there's a dog, instant 10/10
It'd be cool to see you review some wild comics like the Mask or that one superhero parody comic about a prostitute superhero :D
Or the Boys comics, they're absolutely wild and very different from the show, playing out more like a gorey parody than a serious thing.
6:49 CANCER
This movie feels like cancer
Dude I just realized that no sequel to a "we're bringing the fight to them" ending was ever made. Predators, Pacific Rim 2, Independence Day 2, none got a sequel.
11:49 MONEY MONEY MONEY🦀
You should make a video on sequel shows like a series that takes place after the movies events
I know people complain about Ralph Breaks the Internet, but as a child who survived the Direct to DVD sequels era of Disney
Ralph was nowhere near those levels, and if you say it is, you haven't watched Hunchback of Notre Dame 2
Oh god thank you yes, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Frozen 2 are masterpieces compared to some of the dreck of thr DTV era.
@@myriadmediamusings I'm just over the bashing of RBTI, I'm lukewarm on the movie and I find the reactions to it online really embarrassing
Yeah basically the only good Dvd disney squel is cinderbella 3 mainly bc it's pure comedy.
Rest is just either boring or just bad
@@13thKingMu I say Kronk's New Groove
@@RiderNexus I say Lion King 2
15:14 no, character designs and being distinct from each other is a perfectly valid thing to critique, especially when the fighting styles/looks are part of what you like about the first movie. It’s more fun that way, right? It’s more valid than most the things cinemasins has probably “critiqued”
don't you dare insult Cars 2, it's obviously the best Pixar movie ever made. Cars 1 walked so Cars 2 could race.
And also Cars returned with Cars 3
8:50 That’s Transformers Armada playing on the TV .
they changed minion's name to old chum 😭😭😭😭
0/10 - ABSOLUTE GARBAGE
To be fair they likely did it because universal who owns dreamworks also owns illumination and minion is also the name of a despicable me character so they probably wanted to distance it so parents looking up toys for mega mind wouldn’t get toys of minions
Blame illumination for that😅
@@gracekim1998 But Universal own Dreamworks and illumination tho
@@sk8terboi2005 that's quite possibly the dumbest reason i've ever heard
@@thedman1754 it somewhat makes sense though since less educated parents who haven’t heard of the og mega mind will likely see the name minion and think despicable me
You know somehow, even though I have watched it many moons ago, I had completely forgotten Son of the Mask even existed. So thanks for bringing back those long repressed memories lol.
