This is my story of how I got into the creative industry. I don't think enough people talk about it so I wanted to give you this video to inspire you! ❤ If you have any questions let me know and I"ll do my best to answer them :)
Inspirational video. I subbed because of your story. Like you, when I was in art school I was bad at design, for one I couldn't afford it which took away from the learning experience. And two, I couldn't quit because it would have disappointed my aunt who helped pay what she could. I finished but while I was there I really appreciated learning logo design (brand identity) and photography. Your video made me realize that I didn't stick to what made me happy. Unlike yourself, I had to work and could not stay home with my parents because I didn't have any. My mother passed at an early age. I still love logo design and brand identity, it's something I still would love to do for a living. Not to make this to long but this video is great and thank you for the time it took you to create it.
thank you for sharing this story, i have doing graphic design for 3 years and just starting to make agency that will launch next month, so this story is very inspiring for me
Thank you for the background of what you do. Thank you for reminding me that every journey is always not glamorous from the start. Thank you, and here's a fruit called Sawo from Indonesia
🍉 This is just the boost I needed. It’s hard not to compare myself with amazing designers like yourself, forgetting that we all have to start from somewhere and that my designs will get better the more I dedicate myself to this craft. It will take time and I can’t rush it. Thank you!
My design journey is pretty much like yours and as a matter of fact, you've been a great inspiration to me as a designer especially in mastering Adobe Illustrator. My biggest dream is to start my own design agency as well. Thanks for sharing your stories Will. Stay blessed!
Thanks for sharing your story so much. I have followed you since 2017, when I was still an engineering student. I was pushed to study before finding out what attracts me till I got in touch with typography. You are the first one who continuously uploads and encourages me to try and step on a new road. Hope both of us could be better and better.
Quite an inspiring story Will, thank you for sharing it with us. I did business administration for 4 years but as l continued to design more l discovered this is something l really enjoy doing so now l'm in the process of shifting into Graphic design world full time. 🍏
I'm surprised that our stories began in a similar way. I was bad at school. Didn't enjoy the system, the things I had to learn in a specific way and order. (In my freetime I started doing stuff in photoshop about 10 years back from today) After I finished school I tried different jobs but couldn't find anything I liked doing, when I finally realized that my hobby can be a job. I started design-focused course of study at a university and finished it just a few weeks ago. Already working as a part-time graphic designer since april and currently trying to build an agency just like you did. You are one of my biggest rodel models and I appreciate everything you teached me and will teach in the future! Keep it going, love your content and the person you are in your videos :)
I needed this, I have been doing pretty bad recently..thru a breakup, and that made me so unproductive, all I am doing is pursuin dopamine rn and I feel like the purest dopamine source is missing which is designing and inspiring for that. I will try my best, even I will even enroll to a competition soon I think, thanks Will :)
Thank you :) I do genuinely believe if I can become a successful designer without qualifications then anyone can, it's taken a long time but I love what I do and the people I work with!
FRUIT! man Im actually ganna study next year and resign my work that i hated because i was just forced to work something that i didn't love. And then i finally said that i wanna follow my dream and passion and they supported Finally. And i am excited ❤️❤️
Thank you for this video! It’s really important to hear from professional his experience. This video doesn’t about successful success, it’s about hard work and don’t give up! Thank you!!❤️🩹
🍓 ace story. Your videos have been a key inspiration for our startup clothing business. 3 years on and I still love seeing your creativity thought process 👍👍👍
Inspiring man! Thank you for posting this. 🥝 I'm realizing it's okay to be at the level I'm at and just keep working to grow and still show what I'm capable of right now.
Hey, Will! Thank you so much for this. Your perspective and encouragement at the end of the video really helped. I’ve been complaining to everyone left and right that I’m not happy with the work I’m producing. And it’s especially hard on me because there are sometimes long pauses between clients and now I’m in a big one and the pause combined with dissatisfaction is making me feel worthless. Not so much anymore. 🙏 Any tips besides “do what you enjoy” for someone who feels technically somewhat competent but also feels like their work is boring looking?
If you don't like the work you're producing could it be that your portfolio shows much of the same work? Meaning you're getting very similar clients? It might be worth shaking up your portfolio with projects you really enjoy doing to attract the kind of clients that want that kind of work :) If I've misunderstood though let me know!
🍍Great story! I have been on a completely untraditional path in my journey, so it's a nice reminder that everyone has a different journey and the path isn't always paved with roses. I've been in a corporate design job for 6 years, very underpaid and over worked. The work we do can be really fun, but sometimes so boring (I type this as I am reformatting a Japanese PowerPoint, ugh!). Nonetheless, hearing your journey gives me faith that I can also pave my own way. Your course looks absolutely amazing, I will be investing on it (and in turn, on myself) hopefully soon.
🥝 You are one of my greatest online mentors and inspirations. I recently started my journey as a brand identity designer and what that means to me and your channel has helped me out a ton. I appreciate your knowledge and your time and I shall pay it back 10 fold, thank you ❤
Awesome to hear how you became a graphic designer! It’s always interesting hearing people’s stories. Out of curiosity though, do you still attend a church?
🍊Inspiring story, as current graphic design student who majored for two years in accounting and then quitted it, I can relate to you and I hope to become as nearly great as you are!
Great video, Will! I myself did go the University route (LCC) to study Graphic Design, receiving a BA back in 2006, only to find myself in bad work environments, producing cliched work on a conveyor belt, with one of the only positives being able to help beginners understand technical aspects of Adobe products (pre-CC) and tips with design, my point is you've managed to find the success I didn't by being pro-active (something I regret not doing and now struggle with). A fellow named Jake Paul (no, not that one!) has a similar story to yours, somebody drastically changing careers, but from financing to graphic design. Your work is great, as is your personality on RUclips (though in the back of my mind get 'Eggsy' from Kingsmen vibes!😆) but wish you all the success in the world and may Will Paterson Design one day be up there with Pentagram and Chermayeff, Geismar & Haviv! 👍
@@willpatersondesign You deserve it, man! As for me I'm currently working in retail (had to do something after feeling depressed and discouraged!), but do a few bits of graphic design here and there, creating self-initiated projects (decided on a redesign/rebrand for DIY company Screwfix published to my Behance) as most of my earlier work during employment was nothing special, but glad to see others finding their way, just need to find mine! 😀
I want to be a designer, especially paper products, or patterns... But I feel like pretty much everyone starts the same, and that's okay. Just that for me, my knowledge of video editing is SOOO BASIC! And works out there basically ask you for that as a non-negotiable. So that brings me down, and I just continue with my office job :(
Hey, can you share setup like what monitor you use, the light thingy you use above the monitor and it's purpose, keyboard etc but do know what mouse you use Logitech mx master 😅
Thanks man, this video was so helpful. I’m getting ready to enter the world of design, and I’m looking for a company to intern at. Do you have any suggestions for me to appeal to employers. I ask this because it seems you had something early on that people appreciated and were willing to pay you for (I’m referring to your neighbor, Ken, and the football tournament). Thank you!
Bro you didn't go to college or any where for learning graphic designing but you have resources like computer for best software. But I don't have resources. I have laptop but there is no internet in it. So what should I do?

🫐 inspiring! definitely relate to having a negative lens towards my work, or at least being a perfectionist with what I create
Amazing video bro! Thank you for the knowledge.
A bit off topic but I really like the wooden 🪵 background with the plant 🌿 haha
Thanks! 😊

The best way to appeal to employers is to have freelance experience and be a good team player. Hope this helps mate
🍋 thank you

Bro you didn't go to college or any where for learning graphic designing but you have resources like computer for best software. But I don't have resources. I have laptop but there is no internet in it. So what should I do?
Next video bro about how to raise pricing..plz..
I'm talking about this in my new course :D www.logo-launch.com :D
Logo design Course by will Paterson available on skillshare is the same course that is available on logo launch or they both are different courses?
Logo Launch is different - it goes into depth teaching bespoke logotype design.
@@willpatersondesign thanks you so much for the response
Wow!
How to made you that someone hireyou without a university degree about design?
