Every time Larry entered a room his line would be, "reminds me of the reform school." When Curly had his stroke back in 1946, it was Larry's idea for the other Stooges to donate 1/3 of their paychecks to Curly, what a magnificent man !
Fills my heart with joy that loads of fans came to see Larry in his dying days to remind him how universally loved he was and will be for decades to come. RIP Mr. Fine and the rest of the Stooges.
I met Larry Fine there at the MPH right around that time. I was around 7 years old. He was very nice and joked that I didn't recognize him. He looked different but I did recognize him and he was very kind to my sister and I. Great memory:)
I'm a movie collector, and one of the jewels of my library is a COMPLETE collection of the stooges. All the movies, including cameos, all the shorts, including as many of the Ted Healy shorts as still exist. The cartoons, and the comic books as well as the movie they did recently. Never mind hours, it's DAYS of great fun and laughs. They were among the greats.
This is absolute gold. I've loved the Stooges for over 50 years. Larry's facial reactions while observing things going on around him were so much fun to watch.
It was around this time, somewhere between '72 and '74, when Larry Fine came to my Junior High School to speak at an assembly to all the students that could fit in the General Purpose Hall, as it was known. There were clips of The Three Stooges shown on a screen (to roars of laughter from us students), and Larry talked about their career and answered questions from the kids. The one I remember- and similar to one asked here in this interview- was how real the hitting, slapping, punching etc was when they were filming. Larry answered, "What you see is what we got!" He was very friendly and a number of us were able to go up to meet him briefly at the end. He was a true gentleman.
I remember sitting in a college film class in 1975 and the professor asked if anyone wanted to stay after class and discuss the films of Raymond Massey and we said no, that most us were going back to the dorms to watch the Three Stooges at 3pm on channel 4.
Larry stayed loyal to the 3 Stooges and Moe. He never rocked the boat and was always there to depend on during the good and bad that came to them with the Curly's and Shemp. Great person and I enjoyed hearing his voice. Thank you for the post.
I love Larry. My favorite Larry moments were when he'd burst out in obnoxious laughter after Moe got hit by something. (Somehow never realizing that Moe's retribution was fast and furious.)
What a special treat to have your dad interview Larry Fine and ask him your questions. It must be a real treasure to have the recordings of your dad along with the middle stooge. My childhood was a lot happier because of The Three Stooges. Thanks for sharing!
I remember when I read that Larry died I was in college and it was 1975. I posted the newspaper article to the message board. By message board I mean an actual bulletin board that hung in the men's dormitory lol. By posting I mean that I cut out the newspaper article and tacked it to the message board lol.
Ricky-When Kirk Douglas suffered his own stroke in 1996 at the age of 79, it affected him to the point he had difficulty speaking, and you couldn't understand what he was saying.
I grew up watching the Stooges, well maybe not "grew up" I still watch them after more than half a century and hopefully will never actually grow up! Thanks for posting this video!
Larry is/was my favorite...with his facial expressions in the background and his endless hair supply for Moe to pull out cracked me up...continue to R.I.P. Mr. Feinberg,
It goes to show how soft-spoken this man was. Larry Fine was genuine, a beautiful person, and full of class just like his other comical Three Stooges buddies. I believe that without this man, the Three Stooges would still be very funny, but they wouldn't have that extra "Textbook Larry" image among them. The thought of dying of laughter was an actuality with the Three Stooges, and Larry set the tone with his own antics that made us all laugh really hard, and he literally portrayed in the scope of being the "middle-man" of the classical "Slapstick Mayhem". I dearly miss Larry, and the other Stooges. There will never be another of Larry's like, and the same would be said with Moe, Shemp, and of course, Curly. Joe Derita, and Joe Vesser were funny themselves, but not like all these other men.
Loved this interview. A fine gentleman and a beautiful soul going to talks at schools and giving interviews at the MPH. Not many celebrities would go the extra mile to do such a kind gesture. He really lived his fans. Seems very down to earth
...at the cabin with fishin poles in hand on their way to the lake, Moe turns to Larry and asks, " You got worms ?" To which Larry responds, "Yeah, but I'm going any way!!"
When I was a kid in the 1960s, my favorite was Larry, because I thought he resembled George Washington😮. The comedy didn't dawn on me until a decade later.
Would have been delighted to play the piano and fiddle as well as Larry. He was also a fine cook. The stroke knocked Larry down. He was never the same.
Thank you so much!! Larry Fine is and will always be an absolute legend! VERY UNDERRATED!!! The glue that held it all together! When he was done, The Three Stooges were done!!
Matheus, Thank you for sharing this audio of my favorite Stooge--Larry. I got to see him and 2 of the other Stooges perform live in Atlantic City, NJ, back in 1958 at the Steel Piere. It's a memory I treasure to the max. 🙂
I remember back in the 70s on tv Larry doing some sort of promo or public service announcement. He was in a wheelchair and his speech was slurred as it is here. I remember it started with him saying "Hi kids, this is your old pal Larry." Anybody remember this?
What an incredible find here! Thanks for posting. Loved the link with additional recordings, photos and 8mm video. Priceless treasures dont have to be of metal. :) -Jim
He was an integral part of one of the greatest comedy troupes of all time. For over 50 years he was a member of the Three Stooges. Withou Larry Fine there wouldnt have been a Three Stooges. He doesnt get the recognition that Moe or Curley got. You either "got" their brand of comedy or you didnt. I most certainly did😂!
What a wonderful interview ! Thanks so very much for sharing with us ! Marvelous to hear Larry's voice & honest answers (though sadly his voice was hampered by the stroke he'd had). Didn't know Larry was a diabetic before now. How sweet his beloved daughter was a constant visitor. And didn't know he'd had a great-grandson when he was at the Motion Picture Home ! Wow !
He didn't hesitate about curly being the best version of the 3 Stooges. I would have followed up "was the $ better with curly or maybe got along better"?
I'm 56 yrs old and as a child I remember Dad sitting in his rocking chair laughing hysterically watching tv. It was the 3 Stooges. Nothing gave Dad more laughs than these guys. I started watching with him. To this day nothing on Earth makes me laugh like these guys. Thanks Moe, Curly, Larry,Shemp and Joes. And of course Dad RIP😢
Larry was so funny. I found myself laughing at him almost as much as the Howard brothers in the short films. In the episode “Flatfoot Stooges” where they are fireman, I still laugh everytime Moe says to Curley at the end of the episode after the guy they were after gets away “and just think, I was just about to let him have it like this” and he slaps Curly. Larry then says “I wasn’t looking, like what?” and Moe slaps him too. For some reason I laugh at that every time. 😂
2:52 - I have a book by Don Sweeney, who worked at THE TONIGHT SHOW under both Carson & Leno, called BACKSTAGE AT THE TONIGHT SHOW. Mr. Sweeney wrote about meeting Larry Fine once or twice at the home and setting up his tv to receive a UHF channel in LA that carried 3 Stooges shorts, and he said that Mr. Fine was very grateful that he could then see his old shorts. That must've happened after this interview, but probably not long after.
Great video...Larry's Great Grandson Kurt Lamond can be seen on Curly G and Andy Pagani You Tube channel. Larry's niece Phyllis was just on a recent video. Long live the legendary 3 Stooges.
Once Larry had his stroke and left the team that was essentially the end of the Stooges. Moe tried to keep it going with Emil Sitka (playing Larry’s brother) but it just never got off the ground. Moe passed away not long after Larry, in 1975.
Made my day. Thank you for this. ' Matheus: Your story about your father and Larry, and of course the other visits with Moe and the Joe's is so wonderful and amazing.

100 yrs from now people will still be watching the 3 stooges
Of course they will.

What a lovable guy. Nice to hear him speaking as himself, even if illness had slowed him down a bit.
Even after his stroke,he is sharp and funny and with a quick wit.R.I.P Louis Fineburg(and Moe,Shemp and Curly).
As well as Joe and Curly Joe. Let's give props to all the members. Long live the Three Stooges 🤪

Priceless. I had an ear to ear grin listening to Larry.
Larry talking about Tastykake is great - I knew he was born in Philly but his ties remained.
