    Just found your channel, your filmography is really good and you deserve more subs, I'm new to the kayak world and am looking at trying Upper Delaware (Callicoon to skinners falls) for a first time then working my way to longer overnight trips! You are an inspiration!

    Awesome quality video. Love local productions. A small crew and I are doing the dingmans to kittatiny stretch next weekend. Spent all summer scouting the sections and really excited to get on the water for sunrise this Saturday.

    Did this back in 2015. Put in at Narrowsburg, camped at Barryville and came out the next day at Sparrowbush.

    This is wild. I'm from AZ and never even considered the outdoors in the East until I moved to Delaware. We have all the biggest stuff out West, but the small stuff out here has a nice vibe and it's way wetter. It's cool to live in a biome other than the high plains, senora, or high altitude pine forests.

    • @MapsWithNoRoads
      @MapsWithNoRoads  3 года назад

      It's a different world out here in the east. I remember reading something about the Appalachian Mountains being older than bones. I'm going to look it up right now.
      "The Rockies are new, young and virile and fresh from the Laramide Orogeny, tall and lanky teenagers on the geological scale.
      The Appalachian mountains are old. Formed hundreds of millions of years ago before dinosaurs walked the Earth. They are ancients, elders, witnesses to half a billion years of life coming and going.
      Too elaborate on the "before dinosaurs" part, there is a cave in the Appalachians that began forming 550 million years ago. There are no bones or fossils found in that cave. It began forming before bones existed on land, and had only just started to exist in the ocean. Shellfish hadn't evolved yet.
      The Appalachians aren't just older than dinosaurs. They are older than bones."

      @@MapsWithNoRoads In general , newer mountains tend to be taller and rough. Older mountains are weathered and worn over time. The Himalayas for example are probably the youngest mountains in the world and still in the process of formation as the Indian subcontinent smashes into Asia and pushes up these mountains further and further into the heavens. (about 29000 ft and still rising by about an inch or so every year !)

      By the way Gene, I used your video (and your Blog post linked to this video) as a reference and inspiration for my own little solo camping trip. Documented it too. "47 Miles" on RUclips.

      Thank you! I started a bit late on day 1 and only did about 5 and a half miles. Day two was 22 miles. And Day 3 was 6 miles. That's generally how I like to load my trips, so that I budget in time for travel for the first and last days.

    Can you Kayak from Wy Hit Tuk in PA down to Cape May in NJ

    • @MapsWithNoRoads
      @MapsWithNoRoads  4 года назад +2

      I don't see why not. Although it should take a few days longer and things may start to get a little choppier once past the Philadelphia area and into the Delaware Bay. I think the real trick would be finding spots to camp in such a populated area.

    • @TheBinoyVudi
      @TheBinoyVudi 2 года назад +3

      I am experienced with this stuff and I would strongly advise you against this. The delaware bay gets extremely rough at high tide, and can only be handled by large boats. A kayak would be a nightmare. You could try kayaking the water gap instead. That's definitely doable and enjoyable.

    Great video, subbed! Question for you Gene: I see on your webpage that you say there are a ton of permit-free campsites you can access along the Delaware Water Gap. Where can you get more information on where you can/can't camp? Is it safe to assume you can just float down and stop wherever looks good if it's uninhabited?

    • @MapsWithNoRoads
      @MapsWithNoRoads  4 года назад

      Thank you! I appreciate the support. So here's a map of all the river campsites in the Water Gap area. They are first come first served, so plan for some additional miles if necessary. Anywhere else that is unmarked is kinda at your own risk as it may or may not be private property. I lucked out on my first night and found a small island that seemed like no one would mind me sleeping on, but it's not without its risk. Good luck! And if you do wind up going, let me know how it goes.

    Great video and music! How do you know where are you allowed to camp? I couldn't find any free legal place except for primitive camping near Pond Eddy, and you still need to register beforehand. Would really appreciate an answer, planning 3-5 day trip down the Delaware River this year and considering using private (paid) campgrounds but it would be cool to save on money and hassle.

      Great question. This is the map I used to plot out where I wanted to stop. 8105f459-fb38-4163-a2c1-8286114fe773.filesusr.com/ugd/416e61_11b0b29f3e4249618e86b9c7d4c1ecc3.pdf
      Most of the river camps sites are free and are first come first served. Though they tend to fill up quick on the weekends.
