    Another option if you have no shuttle available is to park at the take out and paddle/wade upstream and float back later. A minor level of cardio is needed to do this. I usually stop and fish while going upstream. This allows me to rest on the way upstream. Enjoyed your video!

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  7 месяцев назад +3

      Thanks. That would work ok on a short run with shallow water but in most cases would not…too many deep, fast moving water sections. Just depends on the river and how many miles you want to paddle I guess.

  • @Self_Proppelled
    @Self_Proppelled 5 месяцев назад +3

    #2, Logistics sound similar to backpacking. You need 2 cars or a loop trail. Otherwise it's out and back. I haven't been on the water in years but I used to do out and back canoe trips. Paddle upstream first then back to your start point. The paddle back is always way shorter.

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  5 месяцев назад +1

      True, however, I have used a facebook friends, liveries, and Uber many times and that is a heck of a lot better than an out and back, so not necessary to have two vehicles especially when going solo.

    If you get a chance to float the Kahulawassee, see if you can get the Griner brothers to drop off your truck for you somewhere near Aintree. That's in Georgia, I think.
    Just don't ask them if they're running a still!
    As for me and my family, we like to float the Jack's Fork and the Current River in Southern Missouri.It's a national scenic river way, protected by the federal park system. Ice cold, crystal clear spring fed rivers full of fish.

  • @cheezy-rider
    @cheezy-rider 3 месяца назад +2

    Your right. Shuttling seems to be the biggest obstacle. For me anyhow. I ride bicycle also and noticed that rail trails are usually right along rivers so I got a cheap bike that I put in the truck to drop off at the takeout and hide/chain or both and then drive the kayak to the put-in and float down to the bike and then I can ride the bike 15 or 20 miles back to the truck.

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  3 месяца назад

      That’s a great way to do it! I enjoy self shuttling as long as it’s not too great of a distance, generally just a day float, but if I’m going to be doing a through paddle of multiple days, I always try to arrange an Uber or a livery shuttle.

    • @cheezy-rider
      @cheezy-rider 3 месяца назад +1

      @@jasonwish- At some point I'd like to find a cheap E-bike. That will be a game changer. I've never tried Uber. I'll have to look into that.

    Great video. I’ve been kayak fishing for a long time. First thing I learned was “leash it or lose it”. I’ve seen hundreds of dollars in gear lost to the River gods. I’d also add , especially for solo yakers to practice self rescue. It’s not as easy as some people think.

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  Год назад

      Great tip Tim! That is something that I have not even done. I've been pretty foolish on the water many times and am fortunate that me and Colonel have not had worse things happen to us. I'm approaching $1,500 of lost or ruined gear, no excuse for that.

    Very helpful information. I am planning my first kayak camping trip to the Buffalo National River in Arkansas. Thank you for putting this information out there. I will definitely take all the advice you talked about. Now to plan the food🙂

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  3 месяца назад

      I probably should do a follow-up video on food, but it’s so subjective because everybody has different tastes, some may want to dehydrate all of their own food and some may want to buy freeze dried meals. I hope to get on the Buffalo river this year or next year. It has been on my list for about three years now. Thanks for watching!

One side of the river is public hunting and the other is my parents property so it’s pretty secluded. Thanks for making this video because it gives me more confidence to try it out.

      I own my own business and it’s kind of a double edge sword, I can usually make time to do things like that, but it also keeps me very busy during the summer months and hard to get away during the best weather. It’s great river, hopefully you won’t have to wait years to paddle it.

    Georgia dnr rule is 10 feet past water’s edge. Not all landowners know this. So we’ve always went past private property as a courtesy. And nowadays people worry if someone is close to their home, I would be too. There’s to much natural river in South Georgia to enjoy not to share. I’ve been camping on the Satilla since the 1970s. Charlton county does have a no camp law locally because of abuse.

    Which river in Ohio is your favorite for hammock camping?

    • @jasonwish-
      @jasonwish-  6 месяцев назад

      That's a great question...probably the Little Miami. The Mad River is not only really overgrown on the banks but the banks are also very high in many places and more conducive to tent camping on sandbars. I do remember some pretty good spots on the Scioto River for hammocking too. I can not recommend the Kokosing since it is nearly all private property along the river banks but it would also work for hammocks as well if you didn't mind stealth camping.
