"He didn't like his dad, he earned all he ever had." Classic!😊
I set up a account just so I could comment how good this song is. It’s amazing
@Ruben C it's the thought that counts
just posted this aswell on facebook x
It's underated isn't it.
Rusty Buffalo yes it is 😁⭐️
Kchu
This is song is dedicated to a friend called Graham Burns .he asked if he could stop at mine for a few days in 83 I was 14 he was only 15 as his family just left one day and left him behind (shocking) he didn’t leave until 6 months later when he was old enough to get his own place . He was my bed and breakfast man
Do you know what happened to him?
@@deanrussell2224 I certainly do he moved away from the village(couldn’t bring himself to stay after what happened ) got himself a flat and a job found himself a girlfriend now he’s happily married with 5 kids and a few grandkids but because we stood by him when his family deserted him he named his first 2 sons after me and my brother .Graham Burns is a legend and will always be my bed and breakfast man.❤️
@@leemorson2453 that’s really brilliant and thank you for responding - nice that he’s had a good outcome thank you
@@deanrussell2224 No thank you mate for wanting to know how it turned out for Graham ,you are a good person and maybe it’s because you share the same name as my brother and one of Graham’s son’s .Thanks again Dean
@@leemorson2453 thank you and I’m sure he will always be appreciative- good people never get the recognition they deserve but then good people never shout about either 👍
The amount of times I would listen to madness and pretend to play the keyboard, great days great music, 52 years old NOW, when the wife isn't in the house, I still pretend 😂😂😂👍😎
Haha....just do it anyway!! 🤓🤪😎🤪🎹🎹🎹
Love fuckin madness Vinny as well
I played this on the jukebox at darts last night and I got some strange looks, what an absolute banging tune #2022
i agree mate cracking tune
Their stand out song.
lol fuk em , classic tune
reading this makes me happy
Clearly they aren't a cultured bunch then
This is one of my favourite Madness songs. Often overlooked, I think the saxophone playing by Lee Thompson really makes this track special, it sets the tone and rhythm for the mood of the song.
it's my favourite...... the sax playing is phenomenal, but the entire track, the organ, and even the vocal timing, everything absolutely nailed down to the point where I think this should be their most famous work..... instead of our house/baggy trousers etc
Madness often made some great records that never were on the charts.
Classic songs and bands don’t age - this one is as brilliant now as it was when it was first released
Madness ruled the eighties! Every tune on their first album was fantastic. Rock steady rules!!!
Ironically their first album came out in the 70s
I can't get over how fucking good is this.
SOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!
always good
madness are one of the most underrated bands in music history, and they still made a fair few quid, the music was transcendental
@@tonyrobertson1085 I mean the genius of their actual music is often overlooked, nothing to do with their popularity.....the fkin teletubbies were "on the tele" too....does that put them on par with them?...what an idiotic comment
Far from underrated, they were massive in the 80's
I love these guys as much as The Clash, The Jam, The Specials and Only Fools and Horses all rolled into one. I'm never more proud to be a Londoner than when watching a Madness video. One Step Beyond for the national anthem?
Me too.
As much as I love them and that idea, Tenpole Tudor and Swords of a Thousand Men might be a better choice.
That’s made me smile
😂😂🇬🇧👍Cheers from Croatia 🇭🇷🇬🇧
Straight up, mate!
Quite often people think of Madness as a piece of mad fun and for their really big singles. This track is a superb album track and shows how talented and crafted their sound is.
Cheers to best Ska band MADNESS London from CROATIA 🇬🇧🇭🇷🇭🇷🏴
My 8 year old knows all the words and cant stop dancing in the living room to this!!!!!! LONG LIVE MADNESS

Discovering the music of Madness was the best thing to ever happen to me.
Rocked west runton pavilion back in the day
He who thumbs down Madness songs truly has no soul.....
… And no humour…
the word you are looking for is dislike xd
And should have no thumbs :-)
the bed n breakfast man dun it
Rude and childish yet with no hint of rude boy tsk tsk
Still wish RUclips didn’t remove the dislikes tho ( ._.)
The guy with the glasses dancing makes me very happy. Top tune.
Great memories of the early 80s . Back than I was a skinhead , use to wear the khaki pants/Levi's Jeans , 8 eyelet black DMs , braces , Fred Perry shirts , Bomber jacket , No#1 Buzzcut etc . loved English Ska/2 Tone eg: Madness-The Specials-The Beat-The Selector-Bad Manners etc . ... G'day from Australia !
KEVIN BALL nice one Kevin love your memories 😁 best wishes from Indonesia. Oi!
Boots n braces, Skin an Oi
@@mikebeer5589 lol
Brilliant Kev
You should still be now mate Quality lives forever it will never die out respect 👊🍻
Favourite Madness tune!
Why do I love this song so much? Makes me feel young again every time I hear it.Thanks Nutty Boys xxx
This is USA calling... and this was the first Madness song I'd heard. Off the LP "The Last Stiff Compilation" (1980). Madness were in great company- that album also featured The Cure, Modettes, Wreckless Eric, Dexy's Midnight Runners, the Chords, JC Clark, Cockney Rejects, the Damned and even Motorhead!
I love these guys so much. It's like we all want to be them and just let our stupid out. They manage to do so and look totally cool!
Piano playing in this song is legendary ❤
My sister brought me this on cassette. I unplugged my tape player for my Spectrum and played it over and over again till my mum went nuts. Happy days....
@Stephen haha yes I'm old enough to remember those computers... Sinclair spectrum with the monochrome graphics. My brother used to own a commodore vic 20 in the 80s that's first games computer I had a bash on
I grew up with all these! Love them so much! Seen them twice and I'm only 24! Anyone who doesn't like them or hasn't heard of them, then guess what? It's your loss!!! X
Being brought up in care I was that bed and breakfast girl now I have the most beautiful family we can all stop the cycle of this happening to our young x
They were great days, the late 70s. I remember them with huge affection. We need this spirit back.
Best bit of my life was 75 to 80. Loved that era so much
The days when a song was as long as it needed to be and no more. My favourite Madness song!
THE ROCKINGEST SOUND AROUND!
Jason C ... havnt heard that saying in a long time.
The rockerest sound around and some
madness is the best
Robbie Murphy YES MY FRIEND !
Amazing to see them at the Nokia in LA a good while ago. This was one of the first songs they played and I remember even though it was only maybe half an hour in to the gig, the audience just thought 'fuck it' and we all climbed over the barricades and hit the dance floor. Good bloody night.
I had a friend who fitted the role of this song, hope he is doing good wherever he is,makes this song more enjoyable
"Hey hey he was he was the bed and breakfast man" Gets me so pumped. So I have to listen to that part every time, which means the whole song luckily.
Pure genius. Guitar, bass, every single bit of it from start to finish.
I found this song randomly...and I love it😁
This song just sum's up the country time, place and feelings at the time...."Real history"
When I was a teen, after much deliberation, I decided this was my favourite Madness song...took me yonks to come to a conclusion, so many to choose from.
Yeah, there is a dissonance in Mike's solo.
Alan Wright And that makes it even better !!
It's certainly a contender!!! Dunno how you could choose 😋
If there is it's to make it sound more 'mad' - but it sounds great to me
53 and still feel young in the head they were the days at the YMCA disco youth club and school disco it take me right back there we love madness 🏴
Me too
Mum and dad didn't have a car, so I would cycle 3 miles to a youth club, in the nearest village hall.
I think it was that youth club that introduced me to Madness, and the other Ska groups.
I'm 57 now, and still love Madness.
so much fun so, much madness...
Madness, Specials, The Beat, Selecter etc..those were the days!
About 1982 I got turned on to this music. What a great era. Last year's of high school and a load of good music.
I was in London a few years back with my GF and her North Londoner med school friend who was playing tour guide and took us by the childhood home of the Davies brothers (The Kinks are my all-time faves), She mentioned that North London had produced more than its share of great music and asked 'You've heard of Madness?" Whereupon I did the ska long step (or whatever it's called), deepened my voice and intoned "One step beyonnnnnd". She damn near fell over laughing, and then took us by several of the Madness homes. Some of us Yanks did get the memo on these guys, too few sad to say.
That green box set with the booklet and all the videos has got to be one of the greatest collections ever. Any time I need a good laugh, I check out used car salesman Suggs or flying Lee.
Here’s a true story for you William. I was out with Lee (Thompson) and some others on our scooters (Lambretta’s, Vespa’s ) a year or so ago. We stopped on our way back at a Tesco’s on the north circ near Finchley. We are topping up with juice while Lee goes into Tesco’s to buy a sandwich. While he’s in there he bumps into Ray Davies doing a shop! It was so bloody random and nobody batted an eyelid…
Cool. If I were to ever meet Sir Ray (who'd a thunk) I don't know whether I'd be struck mute or babble.
Reminds me of walking up Spring Bank in Hull in the early 1980's wearing two tone trousers and a Pork Pie Hat with my mates who just loved Madness 😃
Bloody hell we were a much happier country back then... how did badness come so fast.!
It all disappeared along with the Kings Road.
Maybe you were just much younger then...
1980s
The miners strike, Liverpool, Tottenham Riots, The Troubles in Northern Ireland, Maggie Thatcher. High unemployment, football hooligan, racist police fitting people up.
Good times
Evil colonial legacy finally catching up, huh
Leftists
What a track, and what a bassline, nice one Bedders!
Great bass player It must be love and our house have amazing bass lines.
I love them why can’t music be like this now
I played this album so much as a nipper that it was as thin as tracing paper in the end. Bloody brilliant from start to finish. In the pub about seven firty....
This video always makes me smile, and it also brings inner tears for happier times. Thank you, Madness.
Best dancing by a keyboard player in musical history!
love the bassline
Great track reminds me of one of my buddies.
The hotel signs at the beginning - It was a quality b&b if it had both hot AND cold running water ! Although back then it was a share bathroom on the landing, no ensuites !!!
Bril!... 55 and can still A: remeber all the lyrics to this one and B: can still Ska dance!. 🤣 and C: My grand daughter loves their early stuff and is getting me to teach her!. Nuff said!. 🙂
