    there is a part of the industry that's not focused on competition like surly bikes, weirdly, they tend to be expensive

      @carlovillarica  11 месяцев назад

      yup that's why im a fan of surly. I was thinking about their pricing, i think for the US, they are priced reasonably. Before COVID, I remember a trip to Seattle and there were a lot of people riding Surlys for commuting.

    Gravel has been the biggest push against competition focus in cycling recently IMHO despite the increasing number of race events. I guess the focus on competition is never totally going away, but having other layers of cycling certainly helps make the case for it as a bigger lifestyle.
    That said, I'm probably too set in my roadie ways to consider riding my fender-equipped bike in anything other than lycra. To each their own.

      @carlovillarica  11 месяцев назад

      to each their own definitely. I'm just trying to give a voice for those who don't always want to compete

    "racing isn't a matter of life and death, it's much more important than that"...... Eddy Merckx....ok, he didn't really say that but it's true that racing improves the breed and cycling is the better for it. Whenever cycling falls out of favor with the general public as it has done many times and will do again, it's the racers that keep the bike industries wheels turning.

      i dont know about that. I would say that more people who ride their bikes actually dont race their bikes. I'm guessing that people who race are actually the minority. All speculation of course

    Biking for me is more about having fun times on the saddle. Competition may be good and fun (for most parts), but I agree that you don’t have to join races everytime. It takes the essence out of it. I enjoy beating challenges and the process of conquering it 😊

    In Tacloban, cycling can be very race centric. There are a few bike commuters here and there, including myself, but most shops cater for race oriented things.

    • @carlovillarica
      @carlovillarica  11 месяцев назад

      To be fair, i think most shops cater to racing here too. But I think people are missing the opportunity of catering to another audience

    Think the competition is more about the lightest fastest bike. The street cred of it…and I’m guilty of it too.

    • @carlovillarica
      @carlovillarica  11 месяцев назад

      haha Maybe. I tend to zone out when just talking about the lightest fastest bike. I like to hear more about rides rather than bikes

    @LorenzoEnzooey 11 месяцев назад

    I dunno maybe because cycling is more focused on competition to engage people to compete, or maybe its the best "working" strategy for more sales. The faster and lighter the bike made to compete, the more sales ( just my observation tho )

    • @carlovillarica
      @carlovillarica  11 месяцев назад

      Maybe but I think brands are missing a big opportunty. If you look at Surly, they don't market to racers

    • @LorenzoEnzooey
      @LorenzoEnzooey 11 месяцев назад

      @@carlovillarica On that we agree, there are still brands such as surly, na they dont market to racers ( or racing specific ) but to people who seek adventures such as bikepacking/touring. But the racing specific ones are louder in terms of advertisements
