I got into cycling in the winter lockdown, managed to do 25ish km a day for 2 and a half months (aside from a couple of snowy days where it became dangerous), its really fun and great for mental health especially in lockdown, would definitely recommend for anyone! The one thing i would say to everyone starting this challange: There was not a single time, not one, that i felt worse after a cycle than before, I alwase felt better afterwards.
@@elishadanieljoseph8583 hey, i reached day 23 and then i had to stop due to the worsened covid situation here in Indonesia. gonna finish it once its all sorted out!
This is just incredible!!!! I recently got started, like a week ago, not any goal in particular but to get fitter, I am doing about 100km a week, and I can tell I already feel better than before! thanks for this great motivating video! :)
Well done you! As I mention in the video, the hardest part is definitely starting. You’ve done that now so keep it going! Many thanks for your kind comment 👍
Awesome video, awesome editing, awesome narrating, awesome content. I’ve just started cycling and it’s giving me motivation for tomorrow mornings ride. It really does take the most effort to wake up and get out there.. once you’re out there it’s not so bad. But getting out there is the hard part for sure!
Thank you very much for your kind words and I’m really pleased you found this useful. I found being out on the bike was always enjoyable (some days more than others) but getting started was always the hardest part. I hope you can keep it going! Thanks again 👍
It is great to take on a challenge like this, but before anyone does, just be reminded that riding every single day for an extended period is not sustainable, and will cause more damage in the long run. Do it for a month, have that victory, but be careful of trying to do this for too long. You will benefit more if you work in 2-3 rest days per week, and make the challenge even longer. An example would be to aim at 400-500km per month for three to four months, while incorporating 2-3 rest days per week, where you make the rest days part of the discipline. Great video! Are you still cycling today, or did you stop after the challenge?
Yes, that is a really good point. It is certainly advisable to have rest days in there or you can do more harm than good. I was interested in the challenge of trying to incorporate a new habit every day, rather than the fitness side of things. I would definitely have stopped if I had been worried about injury or doing myself harm. As such, the majority of my rides were done at a pretty gentle pace. I do still cycle now and I think I have discovered a new found love for it because of this challenge. Thanks again!
so average 10.5 miles a day. that is about right. I average about 11.5 miles a day for many years. but my bike is a road bike though it is a cheap road bike.
I did this and I loved it. I live in AZ where one is stuck indoors cause of the heat but the weather finally cooled in the mornings so grabbed my 10 yr old bike and started with 10 miles and now I’ve been doing 15 on average for over a month. Took a day off yesterday cause my quad was hurting but I found that I got more into it every day I’ve done it. I try to create a new challenge every day whether it is going faster, finding more uphills, going longer and that helps keep me focused and motivated
I can imagine how hard it must be to do this in a place as hot as Arizona! It's a great challenge to do and like you, I always enjoyed creating my own mini challenge each day, whether that is attacking the hills harder or going faster on the flat. It definitely helps keep it more interesting. Very best of luck to you!
Thanks for this. The motivation to do this does fluctuate a lot, but it’s really good discipline. As I said in the video, it really helps with being disciplined in other areas of my life too. Thanks again!
I recently got a stationary spinning bike after gaining so much weight with quarantine. I tried to go the gym and even got a PT (went to the gym whenever it was possible and we weren’t social distancing) I was only able to lose around 3 kilos. I wasn’t happy though. I’ve always wanted to try biking but with the current conditions I thought of training at home first and see if I would be able to stick to it or not. It is now my 12th day on the bike and I am so happy with the small improvements in my stamina and the quality of my sleep. My dream is to cycle from Seoul to Busan which is around 600KM. I saw this video and I loved how honest you were. Thank you so much. I’m excited to see if I can stick with this habit and to see the effects of discipline on different aspects of my life.
Well done you for sticking with it! It's hard to keep doing something when you don't see immediate gains. But sticking with it for the long term is the key. And it can suck sometimes too! Thank you very much for your kind comments and I wish you the very best with it 👍
amazing video, I absolutely love watching your perspective on cycling as someone who is just starting the habit of cycling, and I love how you closed the video haha
I cycle 30km on average daily since the temperature rised to double digit this year which means I've been doing this for 7 months now, I really enjoy it! For everywhere I go I just take my bike with me. I feel really good without starting my car's engine. It's green, it's free and about all, it's very healthy. Have fun cycling.:)
Always fun to watch you absolutely punish yourself, Richard 😆Well done! You got lucky with the weather, if not with the tyres. Exercise was making a huge difference for me this year, too... at least until I got a trapped nerve in late July. I got a treatment procedure for it today, hoping it'll reduce the pain enough to get back my yoga, but I think motivation will be the tricky part now.
Many thanks Nicola! Really sorry to hear about your trapped nerve. That's nasty. Here's hoping the procedure goes well and you can get back to the yoga soon enough. All the very best!
I was coming off a long period of regular running before I got injured. So I guess my aerobic fitness levels were pretty good coming into this. Thank you very much! For most of the rides I was shooting with two Go Pro cameras. The other Go Pro camera which I used to talk to (Go pro 7 with external mic attached) I played around with. To begin with I had this protruding from the top of my helmet onto my face, but this obscured my vision a bit and compressed my face 😂. I ended up putting it on a long pole and this enabled me to move it around into different positions and get a variety of angles. When I talked to the camera I simply held it up with one hand and spoke into it. There was lots of trial and error but this was definitely the most flexible way to get a good variety of shots. Thanks again!

Good question! I did basic maintenance as I went along, but I certainly didn’t wash the bike after every ride. In fact, I don’t think I washed it all 😂
@@Swiftfilmsuk Ah! Magic. I appreciate you getting back to me, it was driving me nuts! Thanks for the video too... I've learnt that it's not always that bad weather-wise in Scotland despite the stereotypes...
You’re very welcome! Yes, the weather here is not the best but it’s maybe not as bad as its made out to be. When the sun is shining here, it is awesome 😎
I have to disagree about Edinburgh being the best in Scotland, Wester Ross beats it hands down for scenery, so does Argyll. The only downside is the Midges!!! I do agree that starting the ride is the hardest part, Every single time, But I'm always glad that I did and as someone else commented: "There was not a single time, not one, that I felt worse after a cycle ride than before, I always felt better afterwards." Tired sometimes but better.
Ah, yes, I can't argue with you there. Wester Ross is incredibly beautiful. I think I got carried away in the video. But for a capital city, Edinburgh isn't too shabby! Thanks again 🙂
Thank you very much! Good question about the average time for 25km. I would guess that this was about 1 hour and 3 minutes, but it did fluctuate depending on the traffic and the traffic lights. If you're asking about the bike I used, it was a 10 year old Marin Lucas Valley. Not the best bike for undertaking a road challenge like this, but it was all I had! Thanks again.
Oh wow, good luck! Take it nice and easy to begin with. Just enjoy the ride and push through the initial resistance. After 3-4 days the novelty will have worn off, but I would suggest doing it at the same time everyday. Let us know how you get on! 👍
Trivia, Lucas Valley as in George Lucas lives in Marin California, not far from Lucas Valley. Pronounced Mar rin. Something that was marred, and rin as in r plus inn. (no one cares if you mispronouce it, just being helpful?) cheers! other trivia MTB's were invented in Marin County on Mt.Tamalpais. All this just means: great video, and job! I admire people making these personal challenges and making videos.
Ah, thank you very much for this. Interesting bit of trivia. I knew that Marin was in California but I didn't know how to pronounce it. Nor did I know about the George Lucas thing either. Thank you for that! 🙂
@@Swiftfilmsuk Edinburgh people.. are the best. Haha! And Lucas Valley which is beautiful, is not named after George Lucas, he just settle there and built Skywalker Ranch after his phenomenal success. Wanting to cycle Scottland some day. I'll follow you on strava if you're there.

Thank you very much! Can’t remember exactly but probably started cycling about 2 weeks after injury. At the point when I was able to walk without too much problem. Don’t think this hampered my cycling in any way. But do be careful not to come back too soon after injury! Best of luck 👍
@@Swiftfilmsuk the exactly the state i'm in atm :D thanks for your reply, i'll give it a try
thanks again, have a great weekend :)
Very best of luck! 🙂
Did you wash your bike everyday? Or how did you do the maintenance after every ride?
Good question! I did basic maintenance as I went along, but I certainly didn’t wash the bike after every ride. In fact, I don’t think I washed it all 😂
Hey! Whats the music track at the end with the cello? It sounds so much like Chris Coleman but I just don't know this track!
Yes, it’s called ‘We will’ by Chris Coleman. Licensed from the Musicbed website 🙂
When the sun is shining here, it is awesome 😎
we used to cycle 22km a day just to get to school in Netherlands lol for 4 years
That would certainly keep you fit! Good job.
I have to disagree about Edinburgh being the best in Scotland, Wester Ross beats it hands down for scenery, so does Argyll.
The only downside is the Midges!!!
I do agree that starting the ride is the hardest part, Every single time, But I'm always glad that I did and as someone else commented:
"There was not a single time, not one, that I felt worse after a cycle ride than before, I always felt better afterwards."
Tired sometimes but better.
Ah, yes, I can't argue with you there. Wester Ross is incredibly beautiful. I think I got carried away in the video. But for a capital city, Edinburgh isn't too shabby! Thanks again 🙂
Salute sir. Please give cycle details and what was the average time for 25 km
Very inspiring 👍
Thank you!
I'm gonna start this from tomorrow. You got any tips?
Day 1. Pretty well and easy but quads are sore-- 1 hour 16 mins
Oh wow, good luck! Take it nice and easy to begin with. Just enjoy the ride and push through the initial resistance. After 3-4 days the novelty will have worn off, but I would suggest doing it at the same time everyday. Let us know how you get on! 👍
@@Swiftfilmsuk I used to do 17k every alternate day but you have motivated me enough. I'll keep updating every week
RESPECT
Thank you!
Keep it up mate.
Thank you very much. Will do!
I am working out daily 10km of cycling and Completed 42 days 💯
Awesome! Keep it going 👍
I cycle 30km a day to school and it feels great
Nice one! It’s a great habit to keep 👍
This was amazing and this inspired me to do it to
Thank you so much! You should go for it 🙂
@@Swiftfilmsuk i will :)
Nice vid dude
Thank you very much!
Hi bro, may I know how much weight you lost in those 30 days?
Yes! I lost about 8 pounds, or 3.6kg in total.
ive been riding my bike each week for the last 2 decade
Great effort! Cycling is such a fun and healthy habit to have 🙂
Very good bro keep pedaling
Thank you very much. Will do!
