Ave Maldea is taking orders again right now for custom bikes, chromoly/columbus steel frame and fork costs 35,400 the last time I inquired which is August 15, 2023. For Hi-tensile steel frame, chromoly fork it is much cheaper by around 14k. What is your take on Hi-tensile steel frames? I am planning to make a custom one and I know that chromoly is much better than hi-tensile, but what would you rather choose if you were to custom?
Oh that's good news. If I were choosing my first good bike and budget were an issue, hi-tensile steel is fine. I own a hi-tensile steel fixed gear bike. It rides fine. Although the weight penalty is really noticeable. But also if i were to go custom and I have a better idea of what kind of bike I want, I would spend extra on the better frame material. I think it'll be worth it, especially if I were confident that it would be a bike that i would keep for a long time.
i really like your surly midnight special. can't afford though. hehe so i settled with chromoly steel minivelo and i'm loving it! God bless Sir! been following your channel.
i just realized you said aero bar. I initially thought you were talking about the oval shaped handlebars of my inflite. Are you referring to aero handlebars? Like for an ironman?
@@carlovillarica I meant the aero handlebar on your Canyon with the oval shape and flat top. I'm guessing some lights and/or handlebar bag are a pain to install on those types of bar. These names get confusing sometimes hahaha.
i was surprised by the more aggressive feel to the Midnight Special as well. Kinda disappointingly at first since I wanted to like it and probably would have bought it since it was on sale at my lbs after sitting on the floor for nearly a year.
@@carlovillarica They have to be oriented such that they are at their tallest(emulating a larger chainring) when you are at your most powerful part of your pedal stroke. So looking from the driveside, they should be at their tallest when the crank arms are at around 3:30 and 9:30 o'clock.
What carbon deep wheelset are you looking to get for your Canyon Inflite? Haha. I'm still waiting for my Endurace, I think I may want a Carbon wheelset that's around 40mm and then maybe go with 32mm tires.
hahah i haven't really looked yet. Ideally I would like a wheelset that has a wide external width. Something that is aero optimized for 30mm tires (although this seems really difficult to find. SO I might settle for aero optimized for 28mm tires). Then as for the rim depth... i haven't thought about it much yet. But probably same around 40mm?
I recently got a couple titanium bikes. The feel and weight are incredible.
One day for me haha
Just received a Midnight Special frame, so excited about it, going to start building it up.
go go go!

Great point!

How is the aero bar, bai, with the flat shape when attaching a handlebar bag?
all good! I was initially worried bec it is a carbon bar, but my friend assured me that it would be fine

YA to be honest I really like an aggressive bike. But I need a bike that is less aggressive in my stable haha
I sold my surly straggler and got me a Japanese brand custom handmade svecluck mudman steel. :)
Oh wow! I gotta check that brand out
May i know your height and size in midnight special? I am 5’11 but am quite confused if i should get a 54 or 56.
54cm will still fit you
@@Msgr300 I’m 5’8 1/2 what size would I ride
There's a surly size chart online.
@@brianwalters644 sorry not sure I’m not 5’8
why is your oval chainring installed that way? 3:08

Why don't just put a 34t on the crank and then upsize the cassette? be cheaper and less hassle
ya that's an option. For now, I'll stick to this one
try comparing day and night, no comparision. . Bikes the same, Have fun on your bike! and also try other sports for the balance in life!!
Thanks for the idea!
[surly] heavy provided the work load, builds strength! train like weights and race day bust out the light weight bike.
hahah i like to think of it as different bikes for different purposes
then stocking more stuff at home ,try doing with less and build up your skillset!!@@carlovillarica

GRX cranks have a different q-factor than the road cranks, so you'd also need the GRX front derailleur, unfortunately.
oh well... life of a cyclist haha
CX bikes (and tires) are under rated.
ya i think so as well
show some respect to the midnight special and get her a thompson seatpost 🙂
Haha it's fine
the love of riding is the most important part. Lose that and goodbye!!
true!
meanwhile your fixie is being neglected hahaha. you might get more views if you make videos about it.
I think you misunderstand why I make RUclips videos haha
