Whenever a caller says "long story short", buckle up for a long story.
When someone starts off with “no disrespect, but” you’re about to be disrespected
“Long story short” is “people tell me I never shut up”
So true
🤣🤣🤣

“I wanna keep it short.”
You made absolutely no attempt to do so.
LOL. you beat me to the comment.
You don't take care of a debt, you pay it. You take care of yourself and your family.

He should have just said "to make a short story long"

And also, when someone says; I'm not bragging - their bragging.
While putting my daughter through college, I drove a rusted out 1997 Ford Explorer which I purchased for $1800. After she graduated, I bought myself a decent car, but still kept the Ford for snowy days because it was so dependable. I only got rid of it when it had to be towed away. There is no shame in living within your means.
......or may I add .... below your/our means......
Beautifully said, Cindy! 👏
In Italy keep two cars, due to incurante and property costs is very expensive

I paid $5k for a 2007 Buick Lacrosse sedan with 65k miles from a 90 year old woman going into a nursing home. Still got it. Runs great. It's plain looking but very reliable with the 3800 motor.

The thing you will realize after driving a cheaper car for a while is once you can afford to pay cash for the nice one you wanted you won't want it anymore. I drive a 325k mile 2004 4runner I could go to the dealer today and pay cash for a new one, but I have no desire to as it would feel like a complete waste of money. My old one gets me from A to B. Who cares what other people think.

Some people enjoy cars
Drove a used rental car for more than a decade.
Financially it made good sense.
And let me tell you not caring if the kids throw up in the back seat or if your door gets dinged is better than any blood pressure drug.
Rachel is a fantastic co-host with Dave.
Cringeworthy when auto debt is almost 100% of their annual income. Insane how we justify these outrageous purchases
I'm driving around an 2007 Prius with 208k miles on it when I could pay cash for a luxury car, but it keeps me down to earth, and with the way people drive in Las Vegas, I like having a car that I don't need to baby. There's nothing wrong with having a boring vehicle; just check your ego and get on with your wealth building.
I LOVE how Rachel loves to bust her dad's chops.... Love ya both.
Whenever they say “I’ve been listening to you” prepare for some foolishness😂
I LOVE how people have $80k in car debt and ask Dave how they can get out of debt LOL. Like he has some magic wand that they wont have to sell their cars or something. HA HA HA
@Austin Duke yep everyone I know has a 4-$500 car loan. It’s completely normal.
Alacazam alakazoo, only beans and rice for you!
I tell people I haven't had a car payment in seven years and they look at me like I have three heads.
No mame. I can’t sell my cars since they part of my rideshare fleet
@Austin Duke To be fair having a vehicle is basically forced upon you in America since we don't have good public transit in like 90 percent of the country. Cars keep you poor if cities invested more in mass transit infrastructure more people wouldn't be forced into debt buying cars and maintaining them.
There are plenty of vehicles under $6000 that can be bought and driven.
Agreed. I work as a claims adjuster and I see people making less money than me who get cars I could never afford, nor want anyway and than I am scratching my head thinking, "How can you afford that?"
Most of them are money pits these days. Sure, if you know cars and have a place to do small repairs yourself you can find a good one....
It works…it works…it works.
10 years ago we SNAPPED out of it. Sold high end SUV and a sports car. Both brand new.
Started driving a much much older pickup and small high mileage car. Ten years later we have built more net worth than the 25 years prior.
There is NO vehicle being sold out there that would persuade me to go back in debt.
Friends, it truly is not worth it
We need a picture of David old hoopty car. Needs to be in the Dave’s Ramsey museum!
I mean he’s probably got $800-1,000 in car payments per month 🤦♀️ this is why most people are broke and wonder why.

Thank to you Mr Dave Ramsey I will never in my life will ever have a Car Payment or buy a new unless I have a net worth between $1 to $6 Million dollars
A new reliable car can be as cheap as a used one over time. Especially when there are rebates and discounts on outgoing models.
Currently used cars are so overpriced a new one can potentially be cheaper per year if you keep it a long time.
I offered a guy 6500 for an 04 Yukon XL and he turned it down. Great car but it needed a paint job. He sold it the next day. These used car prices are Nutz

I love $300 junk cars, especially the old 70s body on frame tanks. You always had the right of way. Even tractor trailers didn’t mess with you. You never had to worry about being robbed or carjacked.
I have to say I miss having an old car. Nobody was out to steal it, it gave zero impression that I have money, and if it got a little more dinged up, whatever.
What kind of life is it for you to be driving in a used $300 car all day? That is no way to live. Who will respect you? Or associate with you? No, the answer is to own a PROPER car. One that tells the world that you have made it, that you are a somebody. Not a nobody.
@@costco_pizza agreed my man. people pay too much for what they can't afford but also there's those settle for what they think they deserve
@@costco_pizza I don’t drive $300 cars anymore. That was back in high school. Most of my friends didn’t even have a car. The car was always packed with kids. You can’t even find a running car now for less than $3000. I now drive $30k plus cars, but actually enjoyed driving the $300 junker more.

His daughter and his associates look pretty competent to me.
Of course Dave is the heart of the show, but one day he has to retire and leave new generation to take over his show.
Cool....1960 Corvette. Picture please!
I extrapolated the hypothetical cost of a vehicle over ten years. If you only spend 20k total for anything car related over ten years, it still costs $166 a month. Cars are just expensive
If you pay cash 20k doesn’t turn into 27k from interest added.
@@1978wisper Not many people have 20k cash laying around for a car. Sounds good but not realistic or smart
@@Itsdjsigi you save money. If you cant aford to save money you cant afford car payments. Also you dont need a 20k car. I bought my 2017 elantra in 2020 for 12k cash. Will drive it ten years and then buy in cash again.
@@Itsdjsigi learn how to do basic maintenance on RUclips to save money, that's what I do lol
And one can save the money they would otherwise be spending paying off their financed car. Slowly upgrade, keep saving, keep upgrading.
Most aren't familiar with delayed gratification though, I think that's where the problem lies. They rationalize financing a car by telling themselves they're saving money because it's "more reliable"
Rachel, a Tacoma is a truck, not a car. You should keep it generic and just call it a vee-hick-el.
If you live in the mountain states it is essential to have a decent 4x4 to safely transport your family in adverse weather and snow. So everyone owns suv or 4door pick up.
You don’t “fall into a time share.”, you made that choice…it was a poor choice, but now that you know better….do better.
You beat me to it.
Jeebus Carlos. It's just a truck. A vehicle gets you from point A to point B. Period.
The younger ones seem to tie up their self esteem in their cars. The bigger SUV the better.

Two cars for 75k if they are worth about even are really just average or below average now. I don’t know how people are paying these prices but the truly expensive cars are coming down in price used.

I want to keep it short turns into a long story because the person usually starts knowing they don't want to tell Dave certain things(hence the I want to keep it to the basics) and when Dave pushes for the info he needs they have to come up with a way to explain without really explaining.
8:03 The thought of having a car payment makes my stomach hurt. 🤢

I do love my paid off 4runner.
How do you call a Mexican who lost all his cars!?! CARLOS!, it was implied in his name what the solution was 😂
Hahaha Dave it’s 2022 and I still want a Jaguar 😂
Someone needs to talk about the flip side of buying cheap cars. $5000 car is the new $1000 and they break! I know how to do most of my own repairs but I work too much to have time to do major repairs. Imagine if you have to pay a shop to fix them with labor rates of $150 hours! I speak from experience, I’m accumulating a collection of cheap, broken cars with no time to fix them!
"If you drive like no one else, later you can drive and *arrive* like no one else" - Dave Ramsey
Or something like that.
I hope he got all the smiles he wanted at red lights with that stupid Tacoma to seek his approval
He been gifted the used car climate that he can erase his disaster and he won’t because of a dumb Tacoma.

On and on the short story goes..😩
No Dave, you should say Jaguar like Jeremy Clarkson does: Jaaaaggggg
How do you fall into a timeshare?
They're kinda like alternative dimensions/realities. Gotta watch your step around those pesky fellers.
When people say they "fell into" something, it means they won't accept responsibility for their life decisions.
Maybe he slipped? Maybe they didn't have a wet floor sign. He should sue them for that.

Best and worst time to buy or sell a car. Sells car now and will over pay for a lesser car. Car manufactures have zero inventive to ever ramp up production when they are making more per car now than ever. Dealerships also have zero incentive to get more cars on the lot because they have to pay per car when they make make a killing selling one with a giant markup.
