Mt.Kailash Yatra V-log #4: the last 12 km of my Kailash Yatra & Why Mt.Kailash Can’t be Climbed

- The last day of my Mount Kailash kora is from Zutulpuk Monastery to Darchen town. The whole journey takes 12 km, and it costs around 4 to 5 hours to complete.
There is a tea house 8 km away from Zutulpuk Monastery, where trekkers and pilgrims can get a rest with a cup of butter tea, some snacks, or a simple meal. www.tibettravel.org/
If you don’t want to walk anymore, you can also take a bus back to Darchen town from the tea house.
But for us, the full kora means to go back to where we started. So I chose to hike back to Darchen town to complete the last 4 km of my 56 km full kora around Kailash.
I chose to leave Zutulpuk Monastery at 9 a.m, which was the best time. Since the road was even and not very hard, I didn’t have to get up as early as the day before.
However, though it was the easiest part of the 3-day kora around Kailash, it was somehow a boring journey to go back to Darchen town. You couldn’t see any face of the holy Mount Kailash until you reach Darchen town.
I always brought my iPod with me when doing the kora so that I could listen to my favorite music during the quiet and peaceful trek.
Compared to the first two days of the Mount Kailash trek, the trip of the last day was more like a relaxation after hard work.
On the last day, you could slow down and enjoy the landscape of the small river that was always at your side. I didn’t know where it would end up, but I knew it comes from the holy Kailash and would meet me again at the sacred Lake Manasarovar.
Along the way you could also see the Tibetans sitting on the grass, taking a break. Also, there were devout Tibetan prostrators. They had been prostrating for many days here. Some of them even struggled to stand up, but they were still doing the prostration.
In Tibet, these prostrators do not just pray for themselves, but every living being.
You could see colorful prayer flags by the roadside or mani stones with the mantra on them. These were mainly used to pray for protection from nature and good luck.
Please be careful not to touch them as you pass by the mani stone piles, as this will bring you bad luck.
After I finished my 56 km Kailash kora, I chose to go to the hot spring at Lake Manasarovar (35 km away from Darchen town) instead of taking a shower at the hotel in Darchen town.
Although the hotel in the town had better conditions and hot water for bathing, after getting many bless from the holy Mount Kailash, the only way to clean me is to go to the sacred Lake Manasarovar since it is the tradition for us.

@kovaiminion, you have to follow several steps:
1) Have a certified and genuine tour guide like Jamyang, and his travel agency to process papers for you.
2) Have the papers on yourself at ALL TIMES. Don't forget it.
3) Have enough money for the pilgrimage. You need it for your necessities like food, drinks, and lodgings.
4) Have endless patience, endurance and faith to God.

Tashi Delek. I have watched all the four videos of yours circumambulation the Mt. Kailash - the Gang Rinpoche, (the Tibetan name for the Mt. Kailash). My father was a resident of Darchen and he was a monk and the priest at the Chuku Gompa at Mt. Kailash until the age of 28 or 29 after which he has to leave his Monastery and forced to lead a lay man‘s life by the invasion of Tibet by the Communist China. Your videos are extremely beautiful and thank you to take me back to there. Darchen has now turned into a city and I am sure that most of the Enterprises are run by native Chinese Origins... However, I am happy that the MT. KAILASH looks always the same even more beautiful and the Mansarovar lake too. Thank you once again...
