Do you like girls AND guns? Well this movie's got ya covered!
If you want to see more from the Girls With Guns genre, check out films like Yes, Madam! as well as the In The Line Of Duty series. Bonus: Check out the Tiger Cage Trilogy as well. These films are nuts, but nothing will ever beat Fatal Termination. Moon Lee fans, where you at?
Please do more Hong Kong cult movies!
You should review 1977's "The Deadly Angels." Hard to find but much better than this shit. Worth the trouble of getting a copy.
Some more Hong Kong action would be welcome. I think you might want to check out Peacock King, good mix of HK action and Evil Dead. You can find plenty of info on these films at the HKMDB.
Cheers
And for anime fans there is Noir, Madlax, and El Bruja de la something or rather. . .for the full name of the third series do a search for 'Anime Girls with gun trilogy.'. .I swear anime/manga titles are either the easiest names to remember or you need the Enigma coding machine from WW 2 to figure it out.
In a parallel universe, there is a RUclipsr named Lewis Tenold who reviews Obscure Horror Comic Books while wearing a Fedora and brown trench coat.
Oh, so you’ve seen that Universe too?!
Well shit, I thought I was just having a Fever Dream!
Don't associate Brandon with that creep, please.
Question does he like the green MnM
Who into green m&ms
@@Tricks213.Lewis
In a fairly typical Hong Kong move, 'Moon' is played by Moon Lee and 'Elaine' by Elaine Lui, continuing the grand tradition of Jackie Chan playing a character called 'Jackie' in almost all of his movies.
Or as we Americans call it, The Danza.
That's mostly in the English dubbed versions because the English voice actors have a hard time pronouncing the characters' Cantonese names which could be quite the tongue twister. In the original Cantonese version their names are different.
3:44 "They are carrying samurai swords, so I get to do this."
While skewering is okay, I was really hoping Brandon was setting up... "DECAPITA-TION!!"
Right??
I won't lie, Iron Angels is a sick title. 🤩
Agreed.
It's sounds like it could've been a Golden Hero
Sounds so much like a 40k title.
@@Mugen0445 I think Space Marines are called that sometimes.
It could be either a 80's movie or 80's girl metal band
Charlie's Angel + Yes Ma'am × Video Game OST = Iron Angels.
Oh, awesome...now I have 'Against the Ninja' stuck in my head.
Again.
When I first heard it, I thought it sounded a lot like Pat Benatar.
7:04 "Look! It's Raph!"
"Yeah...a little TOO Raph!"
Moon Lee’s the queen of the girls with guns movies. Honestly shocked you haven’t covered more of her films. She’s a cult film icon.
Seriously. Cynthia Rothrock and Meiko Kaji as well.
More of her movies need to come out on Blu-ray. Somebody's got to be working on that right
@@richconroy5559 We might start to get more. It was hard to get most of Michelle Yeoh's most notable films until Everything Everywhere gave her massive mainstream attention once again and you started seeing releases happen from the usual boutique labels. Criterion even put out The Heroic Trio.
88 Films seems the most likely to release more of them since they've been doing a bunch of other girls with guns films, but I think she's lower on the priority list.
@Belgand I fully believe that the In the Line of Duty box set was released simply because I bought a bootleg of Royal Warriors three weeks to its announcement! You're welcome everybody
Sibelle Hu and Cynthia Khan as well
Ending reminds me of The Raid. I love when the villain is so strong the heroes need a numbers advantage to fight him.
Yep Chuck E. Cheese was in Hong Kong from the mid 80's to the late 80's. Didn't last very long.
Maybe it needed a better movie to advertise it.
@@jesusromanpadro3853 Like a kids movie? Good thinking, hindsight is 20/20. I giggled for minutes, thank you.
I heard they couldn't get insured after all the constant shoot outs and martial arts fights.
@@scockery Good one
Cynthia Luster a.k.a. Yukari Ôshima, who plays the vilainess, is from Sonny Chiba's Japan Action Club. Before her prolific career in Hong Kong, she portrayed one of the recurring vilainess in the sentai series "Bioman".
a.k.a. the haunter of my dreams
She's also the "dude looks like a lady" villain from Riki-Oh.
I've seen most of Yukari's movies. She's incredible. ❤ I'd love to see a cage match arranged between Yukari and Brie Larson. Brie would last ten seconds! 😁
@@B.-T.That movie is ALMOST as strange as some films Yukari made in the Phillipines. Honestly!
@@charlesws7825 That's a weird fantasy to have. You might want to talk to a therapist about it, it sounds reeeeeeeally unhealthy.
The nightclub is called "Suzy Wong"? It's an insult in Hong Kong. It's used for a Chinese woman who dates a white, Caucasian man.
Love Yukari Oshima! She is basically the female Jackie Chan.
Man, I'd like to see Brandon review Lady RoboCop one day.
I fully expect it's definitely happening, Brandon's just waiting for a RoboCop-style film to be released by Hollywood he can time the review with.
Do you mean Lady Battle Cop?
Hell, do a double feature with I Love Maria? :)
@@charlesshadid1890 Most likely, random fun fact: Keita Amemiya deisgned that suit.
@@charlesshadid1890 Yeah, that one lol. But honestly, I ain't too far off with that initial title.
Lesbian vampire movie? That's actually a broader genre than I initially suspected.
Great! "Charlie" is played by David Chiang, one of my favorite Shaw Brothers actors.
From, uh... "Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires"??
@@ConstantineFurman Allegedly, LEGEND was one of the very few movies where David Chiang was heard speaking in his own voice!
I like the mixture of the quieter espionage scenes with the all out action, it's a nice balance, not every scene have to be bombastic, that's usually how most old HK action movies go in terms of flow.
'they use their phones anyway despite being about 50 feet away from each other' That's actually realistic. I've seen people do that. So this would make it quite prescient in hindsight.
Brandon, if you’re up to getting random recommendations from peeps in your comments sections, I highly recommend the Hong Kong movie Human Lanterns; it’s basically a Shaw Brothers kung-fu film mixed with a light layer of cannibal horror
More people need to be exposed to it, dammit
Fantastic film indeed.
I'm pretty sure he only takes requests from Patreon, which is fair.
It's a great movie, but I think The Boxer's Omen is still one of the most notable from that wave of early '80s Hong Kong black magic films. Pretty much everything Kuei Chih-Hung directed between 1980 and '83.
@@Belgand Sounds like I should see that one pronto
Yeah I watched that one for the first time a couple months ago, it's great
I’m not somebody that makes a lot of comments - maybe 20 ever in as many years. But this is bothering me. Your videos keep getting knocked out of my algorithm! I am subscribed, I watch often, I have the bell checked and all that. It’s just that several weeks or even months go by, and I’m reminded within myself “oh geese, I’ve not seen that funny Canadian reactionist in a bit” and that’s how I RE-Find your channel a handful of times a year. What gives?!
Even a lower tier HK action flick is amazing. Nothing like a Moon Lee flick to unwind to. My favorite Girls With Guns flicks are Angel Terminators 2 and She Shoots Straight.
The music also sounded a lot like the theme of Knight Rider.
SUMMON THE HOFF!
Glad to see you covering some Hong Kong action. That Suge Knight reference got me good. That last fight with Yukari Oshima and Moon Lee has to be the hardest fight I've seen with two girls. Yukari was probably the best one to come out of this genre.
I'm gonna take a-WILD-guess here and say I believe a lot of the actors were hurt and injured during the filming of this movie. Just my thoughts. LOL.
So choreographed almost like ballet.
Hats off to the many stunt performers who gave their lives to make the movie. I'm not entirely sure that they used blanks!
Hong Kong made some good kick ass movies.
3:08 I like how all the men in the field teleport away just before the explosion! 🤣
New Space Ice AND Brandon Tenold? Life is good, today.
We need a Brandon Tenold plushie
the more accurate translation of the title should be "Operation Angel" or something like that.
Also 16:41, realistic physics in an action movie, so visceral.
Dai does actually mean big. No joke.
That butt-sliding down a staircase while firing a machine gun bit looked pretty awesome.
AGREED. I also liked that scene too.
So happy you are covering this genre. So many great films and stars from this era.
Was anyone else a little disturbed by the fact that Interpol killed a child in the opening and it was never addressed?
It is always a great day when Brandon drops a new video.
So great to finally see you get into the sub-genre. Hopefully there will be plenty more Moon Lee films to come.
Yeah, Friday with Brandon. Luv from Sweden
Brandon. You might know the guy who plays "Charlie". He is Shaw Bros. legend David Chiang, who you might know from Hammer Films "Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires", among other amazing kung Fu movies.
I feel like the retro game callbacks would be better suited for Metal Slug, considering how action-packed it is.
Streets of Rage IMHO.
You can't go wrong with "girls with guns" in Hong Kong flicks.
These films put those "Charlie Angels" movies to shame. 😅
Awesome! Love this movie! Make more HK action reviews, especially girls with guns and ninja movies!
This is one of my favourite martial arts film series. Iron angels 3 is my favourite of the series.
Well that's what i call "strong female characters"!
That YTV T-shirt brings back some memories. Those Halloween marathons of "Are you afraid of the dark".
Okay. You convinced me to find this movie and watch it.
Blind Fury needs to be done. It stars Rutger Houser(sp?). Has a cool premise, humor, fight scenes.
And is a loose US remake of a Zatoichi film! One of my fave Rutger movies. The other is NOT Blade Runner,it's Split Second!
I love this Channel! Awesome movies, hilarious commentary, keep it up Brandon!
Ah, Hong Kong action films. The greaatest genre. Yes, Madam would be a fun video to do. It kinda feels like 2 different movies.
I love the girls with guns genre. I’m glad to see this type of film on your channel and I hope you do more in the future. Moon Lee and Yukari Oshima two great Hong Kong action movie actresses of the era.
@15:57 Brandon, did you notice that the park fight scene between Neo and Smith in the 2nd Matrix film pays homage to this scene.
This reminds me... You should do Twins Effect, I was obsessed with that movie for a while, and I think you would love it.
"Girls with Guns" ... that reminds me of a Korean movie or mini-series called "Killer Girl K"
So awesome!!! Thank you Mr. Tenold!!!! I'm so excited for the vampire genre!!!! You rock!
Was waiting for this 😂
At the risk of sounding like a yucky fanboy; but you're one of the few reviewers whose video I give a Like first and watch second.
Awesome video brandon
Absolutely love the YTV shirt my man
Iron Angel is f**king amazing. Part 2 is even wilder, and one of my all time Hong Kong favorites...
This movie looks preposterously entertaining in the best sort of way.
Came for the DragonSound was not disappointed. 🎶🎶
Friday night entertainment sorted, cheers Brandon...
Uh oh. The lesbian vampire genre will be Brandon's new Godzilla movie channel takeover! I just know it! It'll be interesting to see who keeps peering into his kitchen window, though! :p
Very nice use of fast as a shark by accept lol
Hope you get to review some John Woo movies someday
3:24 "DAMN! Those drugs weren't supposed to light up until AFTER we sold them!"
10:18 Ah, charging the gate and honking the horn. Very subtle.
14:44 The "Ovaltine" bit from "A Christmas Story" never gets old.
18:05 Lesbian Vampires?! Is it "Hammer Time" again already?
Iron Angels sounds like a sequel to Iron Eagle.
Elaine Lui was really good in Yuen Woo Ping's Red Wolf(1995).
I kept rewinding to the ending fight so this video took an extra 2min to watch. That was sick!
They look very attractive in the thumbnail.
RESPECT FROM SCOTLAND BRANDON....👊🏴 i enjoy binge watching yer videos m8
Thanks Brandon!!!! Great review as always.
Peace fellow Canuck!!
I was like, at first, is this a sequel to Midnight Angel's? No, it's just an alternative title, lol. Good cause I really like this one. I'm glad I got it on VHS
So excited for this one
And did anyone else shit a brick at the announcement of 'lesbian vampire genre'?
I know this movie as Midnight Angels. These old Kung Fu movies are the Best and compared to today's movies they're Awesome.
Hollywood was lying when they said they're the first to have female lead roles.
First to have female lead roles, in what? Action movies, or in movies in general?
Women have been starring in movies, long before the 80’s, in the U.S.
Huh? Hollywood had women like Judy Garland starring in movies almost a century ago.
What are you talking about?
Hope you do the sequels someday. Man, the Turtles in Time music was very spot on, did Konami watch this movie one day, heard that music sound & decided to mix that one with the TMNT theme for the game?! 😜
Also, you look like your normal self again, last time you looked just like that Linkara guy & had kittens 😜😂
The Christmas Story reference caught me off-guard whilst drinking coffee. 😅
Lesbian vampires? Razor Blade Smile?! Please be RBS.
The final fight between Moon Lee and Yukari Oshima in this film is legendary. One of several of their great showdowns.
New video drop. Yes !!!
Wicked YTV shirt, my dude. :D 11:00 That lady totally went in for a Patrick Swayze-esque throat rip!! SICK!!!
I added the movie to my playlist within a minute of this review starting.
16:43! Goddamn! That Throw look like it Hurt! 😱😮
I know Brandon generally only does requests from Patreon supporters, but I still have to say that now would be the perfect time to review one of the more obscure King Kong movies such as “Son of Kong” or “King Kong Lives.”
I thought he had done "King Kong Lives" years ago. Either I'm misremembering, or it's one of his videos that got taken down for copyright reasons.
@@andrewgwilliam4831 Perhaps you’re thinking of “King Kong Escapes?”
@@fromthecheapseats7126 No, definitely the one with Linda Hamilton.
Thanks!
Hilarious review! 🤣🤣🤣
Awesome review. I don't think I've ever heard of this one. Dose look like what you'd expect from a Hong Kong action movie, even if the big shootout was in the middle of the movie instead of the ending. Hope to see the sequels done at some point.
That final fight of Moon and Elaine vs Madam Yung looked straight out of a Yakuza game, complete with heat actions and all! 🤣
7:52 That's exactly what I was thinking!
Thank you
during that sponsored beginning I noticed something that I haven't in long time a YTV shirt its been years since I've seen one
I cannot believe Brandon did not have a whole section dedicated to the late Saijo Hideki (yet)
It's great to see you reviewing 80's HK GWG movies (I know, but shortening to initials saves time and space!), and Midnight Angels is one of my favorites. 😃 A couple of more great movies where Moon and Yukari are both good girls kicking butt are Mission of Justice and Beauty Investigator. Check em out! 😁
So many banana peels on that hospital floor
Maybe you found it just okay, Brandon, but this looks so insane I have to check it out for myself, especially with such a soundtrack (and the title is awesome).
I loved all those HK action kick and shoot flicks ... all the Red Force, Iron Angels, Ultra Force, Yes Madam ... best best best :-)
You know, given the look of that set, and all the referential humor on this show, if Brandon was going to make a Secret of the Ooze joke... He'd probably do it riiiiiggghhhhht about... 7:04.
What a coincidence, I was just acquiring this and several similar movies last night.
I was heavy into the HK action scene in the late 90s. Got to revisit it.
Lol, That Miami Connection reference.
That "against the ninja" joke broke me 😆
