Right?! I wouldn't be surprised at all if Plankton was a total freak. It seems completely consistent.
I wouldn't be surprised if this whole thing was a plot to steal the Kraby Patty Se ret Formula.
I wouldn't be surprised if the dialogue was the result of an Italian screenwriter using his limited knowledge of English and not allowing anyone to change the script, as was the case with Troll 2.
I have to question if the actors even spoke english. It feels like a dubbed movie.
This was my choice, and it was a birthday presant for my boyfriend. He absolutely loved it. Thanks very much Brandon. Glad other people know of this film too. 🎉 😅

It's funny, this movie literally FEELS like a PS1 game because of the premise and dialogue
What's truly remarkable is how a film from 1994 looks so much like something from the mid-80s.
And I honestly mean that as a compliment for the most part.
I like to think of this as Italian Shadow of Innsmouth. 10 to 1 that scientist paid a visit to the Souht Seas and met some fish people.
And Stuart Gordon's Dagon is the Spanish Shadow of Innsmouth
@@DeepEye1994 yeah feels very "inspired" ... and honestly... it works as a Lovecraft adjacent idea. Evil magic makes the whole plot make a lot more sense.

Whoa! When I read the title 'creatures from the abyss', I thought, 'I think I've heard or seen that before' then I remembered my very old pirated VCD 'Piranha 4: Creatures from the Abyss' and it turned out to be this one!
I'm surprised bc it's so very random; for me it's a 0.1% chance that someone will talk about this movie. It's so very rare that I thought that I'm the only one who knows this flick exists. Thanks, man.
There was another name it went by IIRC: PLANKTON
I'm fairly confident this movie is a plagerization of the book "Slimer" from 1983. Not that it didn't steal from a whole lot of things, as Itallian films are want to do. But boy howdy does it share a lot.
Two years after this there would be an actual adaptation of Slimer called "Proteus" directed by SFX artist Bob Keen. I'd recommend that one for the show too. It's a little middling and not as batshit as this, but some of the creature effects are damn cool.

That weird lamp at 11:20 is modeled after ancient statues of the Greco-Roman fertility god Priapus. The ancient Romans made oil lamps of the same design, with the wick mounted at the end of Priapus's willy.

I admit that I kind of really like this movie. The set just reminds me so much of my childhood growing up in a trendy fitness center in the late 80s and early 90s.
The Thing if it was fabulously 1991 tacky.

Nice find! I first saw this movie on the Rifftrax version that was done a while ago. I then bought the German Blu-ray copy which had so much added material that was cut out of the North American release. It is truly a very strange and schlocky film, and it clearly wears it's influences on its sleeves.

But, I will say, while this movie looks batshit insane, the effects for the most part do look decent. Shame we'll never get a sequel titled "Creatures from the Abyss 2: Dead by Prawn". lol

Mummy Theme Park is a MUST. It looks like it was shot with 1/10 the budget of Plankton... I mean, Creatures from the Abyss. And the performances in Mummy Theme Park make the acting in this one look like Oppenheimer.
"Damn, I forgot rain causes things to fill with water." Y'know, sometimes you come across a movie that's so completely wackadoodle on its own that no amount of mockery can do it justice. THIS is one of those times.

Even seeing is not quite believing. I bought the DVD several years ago from a Besy Buy bargin bin. Watched it, then lost the DVD after a move. I really started to think i had imagined it until seeing this video!

Always loved the fact that this is basically Evil Dead at sea (I won't call it The Seavil Dead...). In addition to what you mentioned there is the square-jawed nerd being the only survivor instead of the typical hero type and the whole sequence of the guy "disappearing" into the basement or equivalent and jumping out, scaring the protagonist and finding a major plot point.
