Kolkata Indian Street Food: The Jhal Muri Wallah of London: "Everybody Love, Love Jhal Muri Express"

  • ✓ It is no exaggeration when we say that we absolutely love this man - in our eyes he is the "Jhal Muri King of London", in fact we have never ever seen anyone else in the UK selling in this "Desi" style of mobile setup (just like you see back in the "Desh"), we would go as far as to say that he is a Jhal Muri "Making Master"!!!
We genuinely think that this man is more Indian than a Desi Indian!!! The speed at which he chops his onions and green chillies is hypnotically mesmerizing, the way he puts the whole thing together, the way he creates a paper cone / cup to hold the delicious snack that just been created, the actual style and design of the stall.
If you remember we caught up with this most legendary "Angrezi (English अन्ग्रेजी) Jhal Muri Wallah" at last years Alchemy Festival ( • Kolkata Indian Street ... ) - so we are very much honoured to again meet the man himself; Mr Angus Denoon; a man inspired by the beautiful city of Kolkata and the pavement kitchens that provide sustenance for its many inhabitants with the cheapest and tastiest of freshly made food anywhere. Not to mention the street characters creating food that is blessed by hand and human touch and further energised and charged by positive thoughts.
A video of him serving up his Jhal Muri at the Cricket World Cup 2019 (outside the Oval Ground) was tweeted on twitter by Amitah Bachan. Thinking that he may be at the eagerly awaited India vs Pakistan match at the Manchester Old Trafford Stadium on Sunday 16th June 2019.
You can go many times to India and love it every moment of your time spent there, (but you're always sad in the knowledge that India only exists in India and nowhere else) the sights you see, the sounds you hear, the people you meet (in India); all serve to feed you not just physically but also emotionally and spiritually. So when we come across a man such as this we humbly raise our hat and take a bow because he has not only given us just a snack but also given us a taste of back home.
He serves up the popular spicy Bengali snack (Jhalmuri) at a street cart called "Everybody Love Love Jhal Muri Express" at various locations. (Jhal Muri is very similar to the Gujarati Bhel Puri). Jhal Muri is Kolkata's Favorite Snack
Wala (Wallah) = Someone specializing or working in a specific occupation or activity i.e. Chai Wallah, Rickshaw Wallah, Kulfi Wallah etc.........
He is a "street food troubadour" so if you want to know where he will be next, look out for messages of his schedule on his social media pages (or you could message him).
    Twitter: jhalmuriexpress
    or Facebook page: jhalmuriexpress
Here's a link to his RUclips Channel: / uhrangus
    Website: streetfoodkolkata.com
He is a filmmaker & you can watch a moving video of his on RUclips titled simply "Kolkata Street Food": • Kolkata Street Food - in which he articulates beautifully his Indian street food experience, the words he speaks touch a nerve deep within our very soul.
A special thank you to Angus who very much welcomed us and graciously allowed us a privileged glimpse into his mobile "street food kitchen" to do the videoing.
    God Bless You Sir !!!

I'm another white guy selling chaat in the UK but I mix things up and prepare what is essentially bhel puri but with global influences. Depending on where I'm going I sell Korean /Indian, Mex/Indian, Thai/Indian fusion dishes. And also regular bhel puri. I've taught myself how to make all the chutneys and masalas, I love it as much as this man, would love to meet him someday.

There are difference between Bhel puri and Jhal muri. Bhel is incomplete without sweet add-in....in the video the man at last add one dark jelly like thing to the muri...that is the sweet add in...before that sweet add-in you can call it JHAL MURI. But after that sweet add-in it is like mix of JHAL MURI + BHEL PURI...

      hyperayush !
No, JhalMurhi is different. The difference is that they add sweet sauce in Bhelpuri resulting its colour turns unto red. Where as JhalMurhi is much spicer and it is yellowish-brown in colour.
You will find JhalMuri in northeastern part of India such as Bihar, Jharkhand, UP and West Bengal.
