You and I are damn near the same. Age wise, family wise (although I have 3 teenage kids) and chose to have a driving job that gets me home each night. I get weekends off, and 17 years with the company that I work for, 26 paid vaca days and 10 paid company paid holidays. My yearly income now after this many years is about 62 grand. I am a company driver though so I dont have to concern myself with lease payments or insurance. I did at one time about 5 years ago, had an opportunity to drive for walmart. After one week or orientation, I turned them down. Basically I didn't want to miss out on my family. I've still lured by the thought of making 20-30 grand more per year, but I'm going to wait till kids are in college and wife cant stand me being home. LOL

Thanks John. One more question, I'm eyeballing prime as the main company I want to join when I get my CDL. I've been a student at university for a long time (but it's gone down hill the past few years which is why I'm hopping out to get a CDL - studying physics absolutely massacred me).
I've been working on the parent's farm between semesters with lots of time using tractors or a highlift. So my employment history isn't very diverse or even on the record since I'm paid under the table. Do you think that might get me excluded from joining? I'm sure it's more appropriate to ask a recruiter, but wanted to hear your thoughts.
Some people have said don't sweat it, others seem to imply it might be an issue. Papa bless.

I've known many welders and not heard of many making more than $20/HR except for underwater deep sea welders or gas and oil pipe union welders. Not that I doubt you, please explain more how and where to get such a job

Who do you work for? Truthful Truckers need to share specific information in order to increase wages. And fast, since robot trucking is already happening. Sure backup drivers will be required for ten years but do you think that'll pay near as much? No. Change your RUclips name of that's a concern

    $1,100 per week before taxes?
    $1,100
    -330 taxes
    -300 insurance
    -accounting fees
= about $500 per week as a glorified owner operator. Wow! Good for you

    • @JohnOgren
      @JohnOgren  4 года назад

Accounting fees are already taken out. I don't pay for insurance via my pay. That was year one, and four years ago. Adjusted for inflation, that's $1200 in 2019 dollars. Thanks for watching. I look forward to seeing all your videos on this and other topics.

John Ogren ok. actually accounting fees are the smallest part. ATBS charges $22.00 per week.
I don’t make you tube videos. I just comment on them.
I did the Prime thing so I feel I can comment knowing all the facts.
Although I don’t personally pull tanker, there are many local tanker company driver jobs in my area paying $70-90k per year that are home every night. Full benefit package and not killing yourself making Mr Low rich

@@tonyhippensteel3805 I mean, cool story an all. I made $74k last year. Home every night. Im sure as shit not killing myself as I have weekends off. I worked grand total of 7 hours driving 260 miles yesterday. I don't need "full benefits" as my wife is a federal employee with amazing health insurance. Still know "all the facts" and feel you are qualified to comment?

I worked for Con-way Freight which is now XPO Logistics making decent money as a company driver. But I also left that company. I learned money isn't everything you got to do what works good for you. I'd rather make a little less and be treated right then make more and be treated wrong. Not saying every terminal there will treat you wrong, things may have changed in 8 years too. When I quit in 2010 pay was 53.3 cents a mile top drivers were in the 90-100K range. Now I'm working 4 10's home every night in a house that's paid off couldn't be happier only making 52K

Road Runner just so we're clear, $1100 a week at a 40 hour work week (which is what you think is achievable at a "fruit store") = $27.50 an hour. Find me any retail job that pays that. I'll wait.

@@JohnOgren if you happy with this good luck to you. I'm tanker driver and I'm working for the company. I'm not lease or owner operator I go home every day and sleep in my bed just like you. free medical benefits for whole family 3 weeks paid vacation 10 paid holidays 7 sick days, 401 pension plan $5000 that company contributes every year and much more and I make 100K a year gross as a compony driver. for the lease operator is way too low after you pay insurance and some more expenses what are you going to have in your pocket? Like I said if this makes you happy good luck to you my friend.
