If you are a new driver to the industry I would recommend starting with Schneider because they have a 21 day tanker training program all paid for and will hire brand new drivers.

When I first started driving 15years ago, Schneider was offering tanker positions for student drivers. I got my feet wet in their dryvan division, but if I would have known tank was an option, that’s what I would have done. Best hometime you’ll get is with tank or touch freight.
Something that may help new drivers is oil field water hauling you'll make around 80k a year and don't need any experience and you can get your 2 year experience to be able to haul fuel
Water hauling jobs are called Vacuum Truck Drivers. You drive production water that is produced from oil that gets pumped up from underground. The Vacuum Truck can also do various other types of jobs necessary to the oil field. I did it for the last 7 years. Normally a 6 on 2 off schedule or a 4 on 2 off schedule. You'll make 65k-100k depending on the schedule and company. It can be a lot of work sometimes and 12hr shifts slip seat
Every tanker I've seen has that badass facial expression that you know they are comfortable. I can tell it's really not that bad of a job if you are extremely careful of the equipment and know your stuff. It's just not for me though. I'd rather be hauling cars that don't have the possibility of exploding and killing me instantly.
Just be an LTL Line Haul/Road Driver. You'll average around $85k a year with $100k easily achievable in some parts of the US and you're home pretty much every night. I hit $94k last year running 5 days a week 10-12 hours a day. I'm 23 with no kids so it's good enough for me lmao
I do the same hours, same pay, home every night and work less than half as hard as an LTL guy.... Some truckin jobs are for youngsters and some are for old drivers... You can retire as a fuel driver... LTL will break you down over time and age.
@@jwenn350 Well when I get your age I'll be doing half the work and at 2.5x times the salary. I'm only driving to pay for flight school and to invest into some real estate. Freight pilots make $200k a year. Driving is cool but not really my thing long term. Gotta keep moving up in the world.
Schneider also will sometimes have a sign on bonus, one question to ask the recruiter if anyone is looking into Schneider for the tanker division. Also if you are looking to get your class A license they will put you through their trucking school which if you pass it is a one year commitment they have you sign. I came into Schneider with my class A and all my endorsements, so I got a $8,000 sign on bonus.
I work in the oilfield in West Texas hauling fuel. I thank the Lord with my job because I make $400-500 a day, averaging 12 hr day and home every night. Oilfield is a good place to start making good money driving Hazmat!
I've been trying to get on for the longest..and my grandpa told me some nights he makes doctor's pay,but he works at the port of Houston almost the entire day and when I see him on his off days he's usually doing yard work around his house
Devondrick try West Texas not South, it's easier out here, there's so much hiring right now you won't believe it.. get on indeed or Craigslist and start looking for all the companies that are hiring. Some say how much they start and some would even give you housing. If you have your Hazmat and tankers ,I work at Pilot Thomas Logistics. I know there hiring a lot. Try them and they have housing for guys that aren't local.
Aron Madrigal Hey what's up man. I'm from Jersey and wouldn't mind relocating. Do you mind sharing some of the names of the companies that offer housing?
Yes, you can make a lot more money hauling hazard tank. I’ve been driving for 25yrs now I drive acid either 28% or 36% and I make a min of 1400.00 per week. Now that’s in the energy end , which is a pain and tough. Hauling gas or diesel you should make no less than 20.00 hr . Now in order to do this you need experience, for what I do you need a lot of experience, acid is very heavy and beats you there’s no baffling. Fuel , gas things like that are in separate compartments but gas is very unstable with all the crap they put in it. If your new to driving here’s my advice always push yourself to drive different equipment like flat bed, tank, refer buckets etc because pulling special freight pays more than just van general stuff also I prefer % pay over mileage or hourly. Thanks
Schneider trains newbie drivers for tankers, and I hear the training is top notch. It’s just up to a newbie to decide if they’re prepared to take that on right out of the gate, or do dry van first to get their feet wet.
Yup he's right, I'm currently driving tankers for Schneider in California only. Plan on moving on to hopefully more money once I get my full year of tanker experience. Schneider is not a bad company I just need to make more money, so hauling fuel has crossed my mind.
I was in dry van for schneider switched over to their tanker....their training is top notch...after a year and half switched over to hauling fuel. I have a 4 day work week...work my or day...home every night ...made 120k last year...this year about 130k
Never dont get an endorsement if you can. Especially in the beginning of your career. No sense in closing any doors. I grabbed my doubles and triples for no particular reason and now I run doubles and I make $102,000 year.
Mo Miles is correct. Not uncommon at all to see this kind of pay. I run doubles here in Iowa for a large LTL shipper. I've grossed well over a $100k for the last 3yrs. Must have a hazmat and dbl/trpls endorsement, clean driving record and be willing to work sone pretty screwed up hrs.
1 1 . Nope, just a company driver. Non union, get paid by the mile and home every day! I work Monday thru Friday night and run about 630mi a night. That pretty much runs out my hrs for the week. I'll usually have roughly 8hrs left over to do a small run if I want extra miles. Also, full benefits including a generous 401k program and employee stock option.
One of the main factors to making great money and having decent benefits as a fuel hauler is what CARRIER you work for. Wages and benefits can vary greatly, so do your homework before signing on with any trucking company.
I'm so jealous. I'm about to be 30 in April. I work for the salvation army. I make 8.07 an hour. I net about 720 dollars a month. I wish I made more money to live on.
Money isn’t happiness. What you are doing with the Salvation Army shows what kind of heart you have, and that type of character is more valuable than any sum of money on Earth.
Got hired grossing 70k a yr, Ive spent 6 months in n.c hauling fuel (tanker) im grossing about 87k-93k first 6 months!.....but heres the catch! After uncle sam gets ahold of me in N.C ill be BRINGING HOME 65k a yr...facts! Oh yea thats with the worst schedule in the world also! Fri-wed 12-14 a day night shift...
its absolutly true. i got my first chance to haul fuel just 14 months into the game. I'm now making 5 grand a month home daily and off on the weekends. the experienced guys make even more.
The HazMat endorsement will cost you $150-200. Whether you get HazMat or not, get your tanker endorsement even if you plan to haul dry van or reefer. Tanker endorsement is required for certain freight that rides inside of dry vans or reefer trailers. Tanker endorsement is just a test on the computer at the DMV, maybe $20. Newbies have to pass General Knowledge, Combination, Air Brakes for Class A CDL. They should also add Doubles/Triples, Tanker, and HazMat if you can afford it. HazMat is not a guarantee of more pay, but not having it is a guarantee you cannot get certain jobs. Why volunteer to be kept out of certain jobs? You have to renew HazMat and retake the test on computer each time you renew it. All of the other endorsements do not require you re-take any of the tests. Once you have them you keep them.
tanker does not cost a dime to get, hazmat cost me $85 TSA fee for fingerprint background check, $140 ELDT training then $85 at DMV to add the hazmat to the license.. $310 total and its because i went the cheapest way about getting it done.
Cost of living is high in Hawaii though And everything costs more because it has to be imported because it’s and island 90k/100k doesn’t go a long way in hawaii

I haul LP gas liquefied petroleum gas. Butane and propane. You will make between $70,000 to a $100,000 every year as a company driver and be home most of the time depending on your company and where you live. I'm in south Louisiana.
When getting your CDL don't limit yourself make you some unlimited get all the endorsements even if you dont use them this way you're flexible no matter where you go. And if you really want to try out tankers tryout Schneider. Schneider does tankers too. now if you don't like it you can always go back to the drive van with Schneider this way you not hopping different jobs trying to get your experience.
Thanks for the information. My husband and I are going to school in September here in Washington. My job at Boeing is laying me off and they pay for us to get a CDL. I appreciate your videos, keep up the good work, thanks again. Stay safe on the road.
I drive for a beer distributing company and my contracts almost up in about 7 months. I work too hard and my route brings me home late most days. I beat up my body just trying to finish a little earlier. I wouldn’t mind any of this if the salary was right. My next step is to be a tanker. Just found your channel and I’m binge watching. Thanks for the content!
I have all my endorsements and my friend got me an opportunity at a company called PTC out of the tanker division here in Selma NC , I know for sure out here tankers are starting out at $55k a year with no tanker experience at eagle's transport because I know a few drivers, I know driver's at PTC that started out at $60k without any experience, my friend been at the company for 4 year's and he grossed $92k last year , he works 3rd shift and that's where the money is . Hours suck but it pays the best. It took them them them 3 weeks to call me back for the second interview and I already got a job by then so I didn't take the opportunity.
Damm! That guy will be so chilled to talk too,There aren't to many of them around today. But not only that he’s probably a bit high from the gas he's delivering So that's why he's laughing a lot lol!!
Home every night sounds good but there's always a catch. Yes you might go home but it's like saying drivers get home every weekend. Trucking companies say that but it's not like leave out Monday morning and get in Friday morning with weekend off. It's usually get in on Saturday and leave out on Sunday. There's always a catch. If there wasn't a catch, everyone else would already have the job.
I pull a flatbed and I'm home most weekends. I typically get home Friday evening and then I leave on Sunday. Sometimes I have to leave early on Sunday but not always. Home time has a lot to do with the company and how much freight there is in your area. My company doesn't have a lot of freight in my area so it can be tough getting home when freight slows down in the winter.
Or home everday but for only 10 hours. Less than 10 depending on how far from home you live, but there's so many great jobs out there just gotta do the research😏
Water weenie companies are hiring ALL over the oil field in west Texas. They'll give new drivers experience in tankers. I broke out in one. Quit after three weeks because of equipment failures. Switched to hauling chemical totes and have worked towards my goals. If you want tanker out of school, go to a water weenie company. Try to find one with decent equipment though.... lol
Owner operators that haul LP gas make between 150000 to 300,000 a year with one truck. Home most of the time also depending where you live and what company you're with.
I hauled gas for 10 years being home everyday is great but there's not a real difference in pay. Going into some of those small gas stations or busy Walmart's can be crazy.
Correct... Schneider has a Bulk Tanker division that hires new drivers right out of Truck Driving School (if it's a reputable one).. But you have to pay for your own training, to be considered because if they pay for it you can only do OTR and Team. A friend of mine is going to school with SAGE next week and has a pre-hire offer with Schneider's Bulk Tanker division.
Charles Consagra - Schneider will reimburse you for CDL school however up to $7k. But they pay it in $200 installments monthly or something like that. Their site also links to just about every school in every state, so I’m not sure they really care where you went.
You are correct they do reimburse your school costs up to $7k.. But they only hire tanker truck drivers straight from school from SAGE. They will hire dry van etc from other schools.. But if you're a new driver and want to get into Schneider you have to have graduated from SAGE.
In Las Vegas Owner Ops hauling dirt and rock in double side dumps make $70/hr. Double belly dumps $65/hr. Union garbage men out here make $30/hr and full union benefits including $10/hr into your pension. There’s plenty of money out there, just depends where you live. If you have a clean criminal record and want to work towards the huge money in Trucking, oversized flat bed military equipment. Many military loads are over $5/mile.
If your in Cali and want to be a tanker start with Pacific tank lines to get your experience. Then go to superior tank lines to make real money. Start at 70k a year. Long hours but good pay.
Pretty accurate; except larger companies are not always the way to go. You often are just treated like a piece of equipment at many of them. The drivers that work for the company I work for "first-year" without experience will make 75 to 80k. We work roughly 50-55hrs per week. By your second or third year, you can be near 100k. Our drivers average between 75k to 100k and they are home every day.
Robert massey I'm talking about the loads not the trailers! We see it time and time again these tankers flipping over and we all know the drivers do not survive; In the video he even tells you it's a risk for your life but it's all about money. Flatbed the sameway you don't tie it down correctly here comes an huge accident or someone being killed.
I've pulled tankers for about 4 years hauling salt water and drilling mud. It's not to bad ,once you get used to the pace you should drive when loaded. Just gotta be extra careful when driving threw curves and turning. Now me on the other hand, I've been wanting to get into flatbeds, but never could because of my lack of experience in flatbeds. But I think I'd be more scare of pulling flatbeds than tankers. Just saying
Juan Gonzalez Flatbed and Stepdeck are great to the industry for one your getting excersise will tarping and loading and for two you can mash that clutch down and roll through those gears and coal 10-4. We are two different people that's all, I'm not afraid of tanker honestly I just don't have time to take a shot of a Bottle to be flipping over quicker than a Flatbed would. I've seen truckers not even flying around curves and corners on tankers and yet they still flip over, it is a No to me brotha. I don't blame you on Flatbed either any of these trailers can be just as dangerous.
I drive for one of the “top” travel centers in the US and our base pay is currently at $91,000 a year for a 60 hour week. I live in the southeast so that’s a pretty good income here. I wouldn’t haul flatbed again after pulling a tank.
New to this channel.. just got my license and definitely thinking about being a tanker. I appreciate your work and sharing this info with guys like me.
I have hauled gas and acid neither one of those paid me as much as I am making now and I'm home every night if I want to be if not I'm put up in hotels. new drivers you can get these jobs now when I started you had to have 10 years experience. these are LTL jobs YRC ABF UPS and several more. I work for YRC we are now training people right out of truck driving school on the lot. the first year you will make 75% of what I make but it is well worth it because that 75% is more than you're going to make most companies. I filed taxes on 83000 this year. check it out don't go work for somebody it's not going to pay you right. I hope this helps you up and coming drivers
I would recommend getting your Hazmat/tanker and doubles then get a LTL job.. Old Dominion, South Eastern XPO ect. It's the highest paid trucking job you can have being home every night and having weekends off.
Yeah, that guys was awesome! Used tanker trucks are always maticously maintained. If you can find one for a good deal ... Grab it! They might only be daycabs, but I've seen a few sleepers.
My grandpa retired in 2002 hauling gasoline for Sunoco he started with them back in 1971 right after he was done with his 4 year army service when it was known as Sun oil co. For 32 years and a nice retirement package he said he enjoyed every bits of it and that the oil industry was doing very well. I drive for pilot flying J and the pay isn’t so bad i don’t clear 100k a year but I make about 65k working 8-10 hours a day 5 days a week, single man, no kids. Only thing with this job is that if you get in an accident or if someone hits you, all the blame goes to the CDL driver and with so many points your career and future job potential is over. So I sacrifice fun events with family or personal hobbies I use to like for sleep time because I gotta be 100% alert when I’m hauling gas and I’ve seen so many idiot drivers in the 4 years I’ve been doing this, and that’s the main tip my gramps told me, get your sleep, and watch for others expect the unexpected!
Do you still haul for pilot? Just curious. I just hired on with Casey’s as a fuel hauler. I couldn’t get pilot to pull the trigger on me for some reason, but I had no fuel hauling experience
Mcbigginz i hauled fuel out of Boston made no more than 85K. Curious who paid that. Y moved back to Nevada haul fuel to mines. U can make 120K in Nv. Boston well maybe if your working for Gulf transportation
It doesn't matter who you haul fuel for, it's all contract work now. It depends on the rate your company charges. BP is usually the cheapest fuel around and they pay some of the best rates to deliver their product.
I drive a fuel tanker and I'm home everyday. I get to be with my family more. I love it. I found an awesome company to be with too. They actually have a $4000 a month guarantee (not all companies will offer that) so it's nice knowing even during the slow season I'll make decent money. That's in Texas though. I'm pretty sure the guarantee rate is higher in other states with higher wages. Glad your sharing some advice. It's always hard not knowing where to go if your just starting out.
Could you give me some info on what company you work for? Like name of the company and required experience? I'm in LA and planning to move to the Dallas area and start driving tankers in the next year or 2. Do I'm about to get my CDL and drive flatbed for some experience, but I'm a little worried that local fuel hauling companies might require tanker experience.
@@TiniestTurtle sorry forgot about this thread and never got a notification for your reply but I guess it’s just in time for you to move to Dallas lol. Some companies will require you to have tanker experience. But with how things have been lately I’ve been hearing that some CDL drivers are getting hired on with as little as a 5 months to a year of truck driving experience alone. The company I was with is Kenan Advantage Group. They are a decent company to work for. I’m currently at Gemini Motor Transport aka Loves. I prefer my current company and would suggest you try to get in there but if not Kenan isn’t a bad option to look into. Good luck
@@mcervant23 no worries man, and funny you say that, I am actually working at Gemini now as well! I really like it here so far, and I dont see myself leaving. I ended up not moving to Dallas, but with so many loves stores in that area that is still always an option if I decide to follow through with it. Thanks for getting back to me.
1. Get your CDL 2. Suffer and work with schnitzel or swifty for a year while saving and building credit. 3. Buy your own truck and tanker. 4. Haul fuel and make 100,000 5. Save your money and build a college fund for your kids.
Depends on the market area you’re in. Fuel is awesome you have to be focused and always pay attention all the time. Being complacent and cutting corners like any other trickin job. Could cost you your job even life.
I deliver H2SO4 (sulfuric acid) with a smooth boar tank every day (except weekends). I’ve obviously got a haz mat and double/triple and made about 100k last year. Home every night, work about 50 hours a week!
Tanker drivers have to work all hours, holidays and weekends.I'm a city driver and while that has its own challenges,I'm home every night and don't work weekends!
I started with Werner for a year making 35-40c/m, moved on to Magnum LTD for 2.5 years (medium size company, highly recommend) making about 55c/m 51,000/year now I just got a job at Puryear Tank Lines hauling liquid propane among other things making ~75k/year
@@TheVoodooGal nothing special, just your average OTR box driver doing whatever needed doing. I think we had a 2 week minimum between home times, which is pretty normal for OTR, I generally stayed out about a month at a time.
Yep. I spent a couple of years pulling diesel fuel tankers before I retired, and topped 90k easily. I slept at home in my own bed every night as well. Long distance OTR pulling reefers and dry vans is for idiots.
Yes you can make more money with Hazmat. I drive class B tanker truck and I went from 40,000 to 70,000 just going from drive bus to tankers. One negative is the hazards to air quality. It will shorten your life.
I used to drive for a gas company for two years and made 90k the only thing that's bad about it is the city traffic and the BS that goes on in management. If you do want to be a Tanker Yanker, find a small company that pays well and treat their drivers right. You can make more money being your own boss as a owner operator running general freight if you do it right.
I haul fuel in Southern California (Los Angeles). I made 85k last year with 2 years experience hauling fuel and 5 yrs trucking over all. Usually work 58-62 hrs a week. Top guys in the company are making 100-115k a year
The newbies can also try Schneider as well, but this is just to get into the Tanker business. Idk how good is them, but it sure skips the dryvan or reefer which really goes down the hill...
I have a friend who works for Loves, yes it's pays very well and he's home every night, but he don't get off until like 3 or 4 in the morning, then right back at it around 11. He's always exhausted.
Good video. I drive Heavy Haul lowboy for a road construction company but I'm just local. I hear what some of the guys are making doing Heavy Haul OTR feel like I should bring Lube to work.

Bryan Mccracken thanks for the insight!
What are some trucking companies that allow you to haul water with no tanker experience?
Which ones ?
Water hauling jobs are called Vacuum Truck Drivers. You drive production water that is produced from oil that gets pumped up from underground. The Vacuum Truck can also do various other types of jobs necessary to the oil field. I did it for the last 7 years. Normally a 6 on 2 off schedule or a 4 on 2 off schedule. You'll make 65k-100k depending on the schedule and company. It can be a lot of work sometimes and 12hr shifts slip seat
I drive tanker here in Baltimore MD. This year I made 116,000 as a company driver. Blessed!
Jesse Waters I live in Maryland. I’m interested in getting into tanker driving. Any advice?
Jesse Waters dope!
How long you been in trucking Jesse any tips for a rookie?
I made 80 on my 1st year, lot of ppl wanna do it cause the money but i see a lot of driver who COME N GO!
😎😁
Fabulous Life 666 which company do you work for?
I do the same hours, same pay, home every night and work less than half as hard as an LTL guy.... Some truckin jobs are for youngsters and some are for old drivers... You can retire as a fuel driver... LTL will break you down over time and age.
@@nuknuknuk111 I was at Old Dominion when I posted that. I'm at FedEx Freight now
@@jwenn350 Well when I get your age I'll be doing half the work and at 2.5x times the salary.
Aron Madrigal thanks for the insight!!!
Aron Madrigal what company do you work for ? Do they hire drivers fresh out of school?
It’s just up to a newbie to decide if they’re prepared to take that on right out of the gate, or do dry van first to get their feet wet.
ok

Mo Miles what do you haul?
Mo Miles is correct. Not uncommon at all to see this kind of pay. I run doubles here in Iowa for a large LTL shipper. I've grossed well over a $100k for the last 3yrs. Must have a hazmat and dbl/trpls endorsement, clean driving record and be willing to work sone pretty screwed up hrs.
Ryan Adams is this being owner op?
Ryan Adams is 630miles oneway or roundtrip?
I haul chemicals reigonal. Looking at 90k a year. LOVING IT
One of the main factors to making great money and having decent benefits as a fuel hauler is what CARRIER you work for.
Well if you weren’t happy in your situation DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.jealousy won’t get you anywhere but a miserable life.

Tankers in general make good money. It’s requires a little more skill and a lot of patience.
its absolutly true. i got my first chance to haul fuel just 14 months into the game.
@waynenation678 mine was only the $85 fingerprints, $45 for the course and $20 at the dmv, I made out good
you really are helping me out on to my new fresh start in life thanks man

Been hauling fuel local for five years best job ever
I drive for a beer distributing company and my contracts almost up in about 7 months. I work too hard and my route brings me home late most days. I beat up my body just trying to finish a little earlier. I wouldn’t mind any of this if the salary was right. My next step is to be a tanker. Just found your channel and I’m binge watching. Thanks for the content!
I did that job as a "helper" not driver. It's a brutal job brother. I drive cryogenics now and it's cake.
Sammy Bones17 right. Super cool dude. He was so giggly and humble
John Dyer true. Thanks for letting people know 😎😄
Well not local fuel hauling, you're home every night. The reason is because there's two shifts.
Kevin Randolph like what
Sure beats OTR driving.
capazontwo I know right!!
U bet it does !
Thanks for sharing!!!!
Im starting with a company who's training me for my CDL and so I'm starting out as a tanker.
So how'd it go for you?
I will definitely be getting all my endorsements.... very kind person thanks for the information.
Grace Love 😎
Prime and Schneider both have tanker as an option and both are starter mega carrier companies.
Greg Priede thanks for the insight
Charles Consagra nt true i just spoke with a recruiter the other day, any school of your choosing you can go to
In Las Vegas Owner Ops hauling dirt and rock in double side dumps make $70/hr.
Thank you for your insight
If your in Cali and want to be a tanker start with Pacific tank lines to get your experience. Then go to superior tank lines to make real money. Start at 70k a year. Long hours but good pay.

Love my job! Haven't made 100k yet but I'm new to the field! First job I've ever been proud of!
DaveFrom Accounting what is your job
The operator seems like a really good dude. Us drivers run America.
Tanker is scarey not gonna lie lol I only do Flatbed and that driver is the coolest we need more like him!!
MR. DreadHead359 multi compartment trailers are not scary and smooth bore aren't bad
You must be a new driver. Flat bed is more work and more dangerous
I drive for one of the “top” travel centers in the US and our base pay is currently at $91,000 a year for a 60 hour week. I live in the southeast so that’s a pretty good income here. I wouldn’t haul flatbed again after pulling a tank.
