Want to see this run games? on an older pc? let me know below.
Yes, absolutely. I just purchased a steam deck a few weeks ago. Loving it so far, but would be great to see how an older machine could run triple A games.
*Considering the control layout on the Deck, I'm really curious if the drivers are able to configure themselves to a keyboard setup without any real issues.*
@@SamskaraOrigin I don't think it should be a problem, since it is using kde Linux. The steam deck is basically a mini PC with game controllers built in. I have seen users install windows 11 and Batocera on it with no issues. I'm just curious what the old PC's can play really well regarding the latest triple A games. I have a mini PC setup with Batocera on it but haven't used it in over a year. It could only handle up to GameCube games, anything after that it has trouble due to the hardware. I have emudeck installed on my steam deck and it plays Wii U games almost better than the switch.
Interesting. But it's HoloISO, hollow, not Halo as in the game.
that did add a bit of confusion
@@Blackmark52 yeah that confused me too. So now, I'm going to watch a ton of videos on who actually installed and plays games on a old PC with os installed.
if only SteamOS was released officially to run on PC hardware as a gamers alternative to Windows, even if they gave a spec for the hardware... it would be great to having gaming PC's without the need for Micro$oft -
it's a good thing for valve too, they can get more feedback and do better optimisation and work on steam os if we had an official release to be able to download it everywhere
This so much. Every time I play the Steam Deck I cringe thinking about how cumbersome it is using my gaming PC with Windows 10. Even though the initial install of Star Citizen on the Steam Deck was annoying, it's still so much more user-friendly accessing the EmuDeck and all the emulated games, all the Steam games, and even non-Steam games like Star Citizen from the Steam Deck. Only reason I won't erase Windows 10 on my current gaming rig is because it's already setup exactly the way I want to play everything I want, and it doesn't make sense going through the hassle of installing SteamOS on it at this point, but for my next gaming rig, it's going to exclusively be SteamOS.
He'll yeah, I'd switch emidietly, execpt we already can with linux but it's annoying and not straight forward like steamos.
@@billywashere6965 holoiso doesn't support nvidia gpus
It doesn’t work well with Nvidia GPUs from what I hear.
Man that's awesome 👍 love to see more 👍👍👍👍👍
More to come!
Thanks for showing us how to do this. I sure didn't know this was possible. That is so awesome, because I sure love how Valve does things with Steam. They're geniuses.
good stuff as always ! =)
Thank you! Cheers!
This is something i've been wanting to try. Might be time to make a VM :D
Try it on that mini pc I sent you
Linux is doing well this year with Proton and Steam.Single player games run well for the most part .You can play now Apex Legends and Halo Infinite i belive as for the multiplayer goes.CSGO runs by default good since its a Valve game .Only thing that holds linux is the anticheat software and i hope in the future more devs will make their anticheat software compatible and usable for linux and Proton so we can have an alternative to windows when it comes for gaming .
I agree, they just new more uses using the platform.
Thax for adding this comment. Forgot Linux doesn't do well with multiplayer games. I want to move over to it. I hate having to delete or trying to work around all the shit they put on windows. When all I do on my pc is game and stuff related to gaming. Guess I'll be stuck with dual booting for awhile.
Great video Brian, many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@Britec09 please help the installation stops after "started wpa supplicant" the mouse pointer appears but everything crashes and the pc reboots.
I'm trying to install HoloISO on my PC from a couple of days now. Everything goes fine until i have to reboot the system after the install. I basically got stuck in a black screen and don't even get the SteamDeck/Valve logo. Any idea what could be going wrong?
Same here.
Same issue. Anyone figure it out
You probably have a non UEFI system (Legacy BIOS) which HoloISO does not support. You can use an alternative like WinesapOS for the BIOS support but it's not run by HoloISO developers.
My only issues are that it appears unable to receive some updates in desktop mode and I am unable to install packages like FileZilla to ftp my games.
Thax for the upload.
In my case it just gets stuck at "triggering uevents" and while others seem to have that issue, no one seems to have a reliable way to fix it...
If anyone knows a way please do let me know
Can you please do a tutorial on dual booting HoloISO with windows. I am making a new all AMD system, I want to keep doing my editing work on Windows and gaming on SteamOs 3.0. Just wanted to know if that's possible.
In theory yes. Do you have them on the same drive? These days I tend to keep my OS on separate drives, but in the early 2000s I used to boot XP to Vista, and three to four distros of Linux from one drive. I don’t recall the name of the program, but I downloaded it from Neo Win. Otherwise it’s pressing F11 during startup to get to the boot menu.
mine gets stuck on verifying dmi pool data when trying to boot
Where did you get the ISO from? I can't find it at the github page.
Mine gets stuck on triggering events when trying to install it
Is there solution to that?
Dual boot works? STEAM/ WINDOWS?
Is there a fix for 2:47 ? Everytime the boot stucks when the cursor pops for 15sec and then restarts the pc...
Doesn't work for me. Black screen on reboot
Everything is good untill the reboot and then the system does not refresh and show the Steem symbol or the welcome page. Any help would be appreciated. Tried UEFI, UEFI with CSM and UEFI without CSM to no avail.
Hi, I installed holoiso 4.2 on onexplayer 2 but it shows upside down, how can I fix it?
Could this be used on an older system running something like an i3 and an rx5500? Ddr3 board? Looking for something to do with the ancient system I gave my girl while she built her first pc
hello , will this istall on a macbook or macbook air?
Doesn't work. Black screen on reboot.
My os say: "you need to load the kernel first" I did wrong?
Great video, but can you get Holo Iso on rasberry pi?
Hi, does it Support 5.1 Sound now? Setup in Desktop works well, when starting up a game. But in Dashboardmode its only Stereo.
Think it will run on an old Dell Optiplex XE with an Intel Q9550S + AMD RX 6400 LP tandem?
I'm not expecting to run new games, or at least at 1080. I'm happy at 720.
This a refurbished build that's primarily for media playback and I splurged for RX6400 to gain native, hardware AV1 playback. The current CPU is an E-5400, but I plan on installing the Q9550S.
Being able to play some games is really an added bonus, an especially SteamOS or HoloISO.
If I have a win10 how i can to return from SteamOS to the previous system ?
Help it installs on the flash drive and not my ssd
Thank you!
You're welcome!
How about NVIDIA drivers?
This method dosen't work for me.. I was not able to get the correct ISO file. The outlet I got is not bookable and contains 0KB of data.
is it possible to dualboot between holoiso and windows 10 in the same hard drive? I tried following the steps to dualboot from another tutorial, but on the holoiso installer I see the hard drive as the full thing and not two separate partitions, so i was wondering if i was doing something wrong or if it's just not possible
I haven’t done this since Windows Vista. Which OS do you have currently have? It sounds like Holoiso, and if that’s the case it won’t work without redoing your partitions. I don’t know if Linux has a away to shrink an active volume, but that would be something to consider. Otherwise you can reformat your drive into two partitions which will erase everything, then install to each partition. You can use GRUB as your loader or look up a program specifically designed to boot Windows and other OS.
@@zeroturn7091 i have windows 10, but my laptop isn't too powerful, so microsoft's services running in the background take a lot of ram so i considered switching to linux and steamos 3 seemed like a good linux option for someone who's never had a linux pc before. I wanted it the dualboot way in case I need to do something i only know how to do in windows when i don't have the time to learn how to do it in linux
@@Sorro I’ll try to look up a Windows oriented program for getting dual booting started. The first thing you want to read up on is how to shrink your Windows partition which can be done in Computer Management/Disk Management. Back of anything that you value at least twice. Plan ahead, because you’ll only get one shot at how much space you want to allocate. The Unallocated partition is what you’ll install Holoiso on after it has been formatted. I would suggest not giving each OS the same size of GB that way it’s easier to track what you’re doing in Linux.
@@zeroturn7091 a month ago when i wrote this comment, i tried doing it and up until the partitions part it was going alright, but then the holoiso installer couldn't detect the unallocated partition even though it was there
and even if it worked, later i tried with a different linux alternative and even though that one did install correctly, it couldn't be detected as a bootable partition
I think i'm just gonna wait until steamos 3 releases officially, if they are taking so long to do so i'm pretty sure this is one of the problems they are solving in that time
I believe this version of HoloISO have been archived, but there's a new version, HoloISO immutable version and it's awesome.
It would be cool to a video on the new version, maybe let people know as well
Also, can this operating only run on those mini PC's, and does it require the system to be/have an AMD APU? Just wanted to clarify.
This will run on laptop, mini pc, old dell optiplex etc
HoloIso isn't compatible with "ANY PC"...
I' LIKE THIS VIDEO FR.
Thanks
can you switch to desktop mode?? (for advanced emulator setups etc)??
Ofc you can
Any PC with Vulkan support
Says on the installer at first "bios is preventing to install" or something like that. I have swcure boot disabled and have a separate ssd formated inside as well along with a windows 10 in another ssd inside. Idk what is going on?
Not sure if you sorted it but on mine, fast boot was blocking USB booting, even with secure boot off, worth a try?
Try enabling uefi boot only
i get nothing but a black screen when trying to boot
Stuck at eunning build hook [fsck]
it wont boot for me i done evrything you did and it wont work
It seems to be broken on intel igpus
My laptop just frozen on Verifying installation
this would be best on AMD hardware, does it can install if I use intel cpu and nvidia gpu?
CPU yes, only AMD GPUs though.
how can i make holoiso as the default boot?
from the bios
does any of these work arounds work with Nvidia gpu yet ?
Yes, Intel, NVidia and AMD
@@Carahato Ouch.
What golf game is that, looks like fun.
Its a great game, golf with friends
It's not every PC as most PC's are not compatible
HOLO … HOLO 👍🏻
that game name you play at the end of the video?
Golf with your friends
Followed the steps and I get reboot and select proper boot device
It's freaking irritating that I cannot find the minimum or recommended CPU system requirements to run HoloISO. Why is it so hard to post it? To be frank, most Linux pages are remiss to post it too. Only up to a point.
I'm looking at an Intel Q9550S CPU. I'm not expecting it to run the absolute latest games. Certainly, not at 1080, but I'm totally fine at 720.
I'm gonna set up a PC with a 128 GB NVME and a 2TB HDD That I have and Use this to launch all my emulators. I just how to figure how to use a controller with all my emulators to navigate the games. Maybe I'll use the trackpad on my ds4 as a mouse but I'm gonna set up a retro gaming room But with a 4k TV to play all my Gamecube games with texture packs. As a matter of fact If I have to I'll create specific versions of dolphin for each game anyway so maybe I can find a hot key for boot the fist (in my case only) game on the list and just map that to my trackpad or something.
When I try to boot mine, it has a very squished verifying installation screen with glitchy lines at the bottom, any ideas?
Edit: I have an hp pro desk 600 g4 mt to get an idea of specs, just an old work computer.
I think it's bootlooping but I have no way to tell
@@enderdude7777 mine not working just boot loops to setup up every time never goes to login steam page
im having same issue with same pc have you got it fixed? ive been using chimeraos but want to use holo
@@ZakkPC No I haven't, I am currently running steam big picture mode on debian. It works fine, but if you choose beta updates it looks like steam os enough.
@@ZakkPC I have just discovered chimeraos is using gamepad ui just like the steamdeck now, if you update chimera os it will basically be just like holo. Hope that helps you
Ah rip, perhaps the laptop I tried to use isn't up to spec.
AMD A10-5750m / Radeon HD 8650g APU- blackscreen on boot after successful installation.
Can you tell if it works on NVIDIA RTX 3090 GPU?
No
Unfortunately no
or we use Big picture mode
Great vid👍 but y do you keep saying halo when it's Holo lol?
We all make mistakes buddy, part of life
@@Britec09Yea we all do, was wondering if I I was the one misunderstanding, my apologies, meant no offense. Love the vid
An you make it so it boots directly in desktop mode

Same USB as mine xD
Wtf mine only shows efi shell
What's the mini PC's spec 🤔

I get the.error No proper bootable media on my PC when booting from that usb guess it doesn't work ON EVERY COMPUTER clickbait
Or you didn't flash the iso on the USB correctly, idiot.
Flash the image in Rufus DD mode

Easier than installing Ventura.
After removing the USB stick I don't get the select OS option.
I cannot find the SSD with my Steam OS installation or BIOS.
Instead it just boots into my regular Windows.
How to activate it's boot?
ou know what would be funny ... you could actually dual boot windows from that lol
The question is why?
Why not?
@@quisqueyanguy120 about 4 hours of work installing, checking, testing, etc
Because you can
In holoiso games are free
I doubt you'll see this comment but I'm starch at a verifying installation screen I really could use help
dont even geth the koliso command menu. and btw never use a 32GB. 16GB or even 8GB are good enough
Who else just can't get this to work?
To explain:
I can't get beyond "triggering unevent" or whatever. Yes I've disabled secure boot. Not sure what the deal is tbh.
Same
Same
HaloISO > HoloISO
I know Jesus, don't get triggered kid
@@Britec09 Bruh its a joke, dont be so mad. It was just funny how u said it...
"Halo" iso? 😅
Holo*
good
Thanks
It's pronounced Hay-lo Ai-so, not Hay-lo Ai-so.
?
Clickbait, doesn't work, it gets stuck always
Or you didn't set it up correctly.
Why "ANY" PC though? Why the click bait? You used a fairly modern - and expensive by any standards - mini PC, and that wasn't adequate. And I believe that you deliberately mispronounce it "Halo ISO" all the time. Just in case somebody tries to install it on "ANY" PC and gets frustrated by the results, you will be able to wash your hands clean.
Did you call it haloiso???
