  • In this video we rank the best adventure game from 1990 to 1999. All of the best 90's Adventure Games are ranked here.
From the Titans that started it all, Sierra Online, LucasFilms / LucasArts to Revolution Software and their patented point and click adventure style of the late 80's. Games like Monkey Island, MI2 Lechuck's Revenge, Gabriel Knight, Kings Quest 6, Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle and others are represented.
1993 Was particularly difficult since it gave Sam and Max Hit the Road, GK1 Sins of the Fathers, Simon the Sorcerer and Myst. The Lucas Arts point and click adventures really dominated this list.
We at weird gaming adventure hope you enjoy this adventure game video. Make sure you check back next week for the 90's list.

No game gives me chills and a enormous feeling of nostalgia and sadness as the monkey island games. Even today at the age of 40 I have a hard time listening to the intro without getting overwhelmed by sadness and how great life was back then....

I hear you brother. I truly feel sad for the new generation who didn't get the chance to experience the music/movies and video games of the 80's and 90's. Now with the new world order implemented through this planned demic, we are definitely doomed. The only way out is to live in love and truth and give up our attachments for this world. 🙏

I’m hearing more and more comments lately on a lot of different videos how everything is falling apart. Well friend, true happiness is a peaceful mind and the things we enjoy doing in this world can give us small glimpses of that peace but it will be temporary. Eventually we must learn to detach ourselves and be in the world but not of the world like Christ said and start turning our attention within and go beyond the mind/thoughts. I wish you the best in your journey. God bless 🙏

DOTT was my first computer game ever. I was seven, had just started reading frequently and my dad had Larry and DOTT on his win 95 which he left me in my room. I was fascinated by the colourful cover of DOTT and couldn`t stop laughing at the intro. Unsurprisingly I didn`t make it past breaking the chewing gum vendor but was left so overwhelmed that I played fom to time to see if could progress further. Can`t believe how lucky I was to stumble over such a gem at that age, otherwise i might not have looked at another adventure game at all. It took my until 12 to finish my first PnC when I was able to complete Larry 3 without hints.: D For me DOTT still has the funniest intro ever. Gk 2 is my 90`s favorite so it would be no.1 in 1995 and of course Gk 3 in 1999(sorry TLJ). I also preferred BASS over Full Throttle.

I had the Atari 5200 back in the early 80's and bought pretty much every other console on the way, including Coleco, Sega Genesis, Nintendo(s), etc.. I have been trying to find a p&c game I played and loved as a kid, but I don't have much to go on. I played it in the late 90s or maybe early 2000s. I think it was just about a dog trying to find his bone. There was one level where you were in a cave or sewer like setting where you could turn a nob that would make someone's shower turn hot or cold. I know it's not a lot of info, but I figured I'd see if you knew.

  • @MagusMarquillin

Man, Broken Sword has a deep chill score, good choice for the background.
You clearly love Monkey Island, lol, I do to, though I didn't grow up with it - I first played Secret with the remake, and I played Revenge and Curse just last year.
1990 - Secret was I'm sure the best game so far as innovation, but my personal 1990 I think has to be *Conquests of Camelot* (with QfG2 right behind it).
1991 - *Conquests of Longbow* (Lechuck's Revenge is really close) - I just ultimately prefer straight historical/mytholical epic over parody.
1992 - Yep, *King's Quest 6* for sure, so much love and a pop song to back it up! FOA is sooo close though, but Atlantis itself could sadly be a little tedious, and you get to do the same way for 3 paths!
1993 - What a good year, worth mentioning, Shadow of the Comet and Freddy Pharkas to, but nothing can top my love for *Sins of the Fathers,* even if DotT is as great as everyone says (see 1991) but I also want to say Shadows of Darkness
1994 - much that I need to play here, Dragonsphere, Sherlock Holmes, Dreamweb, Inherit the Earth - I guess I'll agree on *Beneath a Steel Sky,* though I haven't completed it and I hate the voice acting
1995 - *Full Throttle,* yep hard to argue - though in my heart I love the Dig more, it has problems and Full Throttle is pretty solid. The Beast Within gets a story win though, if not gameplay.
1996 - Yes, *Broken Sword* - Shadow of the Templars/Circle of Blood. Agreed. Yes.
1997 - Curse of MI is lovely, puzzles are pretty hard but I did opt for the hard setting, and they _more or less_ make sense. But I give the year to *the Last Express,* which is just such an achievement in immersion and time travel save games.
1998 - Yeah, *Grim Fandango.* I'm only half way though, I've been playing each segment every year around the Day of the Dead, but there's not a lot to find fault with, and the competition is not much, but I have to try Sanitarium.
1999 - I love the Longest Journey, but not like I love *Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned* - as far as I'm concerned it had one dumb, convoluted drawn out puzzle and TLJ had several, and very slow-burn, dialogue-heavy story. GK3 sort of had that too, but was sooooo much more interesting, and I really love free roam camera through the France recreations.

sorry in advance for the excessive reply :P
1990 *Secret of Monkey Island* *
    1991 *Monkey Island 2* **
    1992 *Fate of Atlantis* !
1993 *Gabriel Knight / Day of the Tentacle* +
    1994 *Under A Killing Moon* $
1995 *Gabriel Knight 2- The Beast Within* #
    1996 *Broken Sword* @
    1997 *Last Express* !!
    1998 *Grim Fandango
    * §
    1999 *Gabriel Knight 3* ##
    * The crowning jewel of the series.
In my opinion better than part 2 in every single aspect except for the scope.
The *Ultimate Talkie Edition* (VGA graphics + SE voices) is the ultimate version.
The actual Special Edition`s art-style is terrible.
** no serious contest in 1992. Replayed parts 1-3 last fall. Enjoyed this one the least.
Never understood the fuss around the imuse sound system.
MI2 has more music but it`s not as memorable as it`s predecessors.
! haven`t played *KQ6* (it`s in my GOG library though) & *Sherlock Holmes* yet.
Just recently played *Dagger of Amon Ra*
    Great atmosphere but terribly designed.
The notebook dialogue system is unnecessarily cumbersome.
The GOG release of the CD version additonally won`t let you save your game at the most incovenient times.
There`s a long stretch without saving before the end of Act 4 way into Act 5 (where you can die at any given time)
When I failed I had to restore, re-investigate the last crime scene and hope that I won`t get caught by the killer.
Without a walkthrough I would have abandoned it.
    + Had to cheat here☺️
*DOTT* objectively is the better game when it comes to puzzle design and functionality
but *GK1* has one of the best AG stories and atmosphere.
    Generally a very strong year:
it saw the releases of my favourite Larry *LSL 6* and Space Quest *SQ5* games
plus the highly acclaimed *QFG4* (which I haven`t played yet)
$ Just playing *UAKM* right now for the very first time.
You have to get used to the controls but it`s worth it.
Might have to replay *Beneath A Steel Sky*
Remember liking it but it didn`t leave a strong impression with me.
    # *GK2* has on of the best AG storylines and soundtracks of all time. FMV acting is cheesy but I love it !
Looking forward to replay *Full Throttle* (remaster)
*Riddle of Master Lu* is an underrated 1995 gem of a sleeper.
Still hoping for a GOG re-release some time in the future...
@ My favourite and most re-played adventure game of all time !
There are plenty AG`s with better puzzle design out there, but no other game intrigued me more than *BS1*
Unfortunately it is the only great game in an otherwise pretty forgettable franchise.
!! I love *Curse of Monkey Island* (despite the terribly weak last quarter) and *Blade Runner* though.
but *TLE* is such a unique game which totally caught me by surprise.
Paul Verehoeven was about to direct the movie adaptation but it never came to be.
§ Another remaster I already have bought, waiting to be played.
But this time with the mouse. I remember the keyboard controls to be in need of improvement.
    ## 1999: THE year of moon-logic puzzles 🤦‍♂️
*GK3* and *The Longest Journey* gave each other a run for their money in that regard.
Never warmed up to *TLJ`s* story and characters, which made the excessive amount of lore a drawback.
*GK3* has it`s fair share of shortcomings but *Le Serpent Rouge* alone is worth the price of admission.
It also features another great Robert Holmes soundtrack.
Sorry again, but this video brought back a lot memories.
Great job ! Looking forward to your future videos :)

What an incredible contribution to the topic. Thanks so much for your very thought out response.
Sadly, I forgot to add The Last Express to the honorable mention list.
You will hate me but I like MI 2 the best of the series. I really enjoyed the characters and the darkness of character. I'm one of the few that love the ending 😊
Riddle of Master Lu is criminally underrated
      You've got to play KQ6.
GK1 was an absolute masterpiece. I've played it at least 5 times. I tried hard to put it number one but it went up against the thickest of competition.
Bs1 is my favorite adventure. I still dream about it. BS5 recaptured it's greatness. Did you play it?
Thanks so much for viewing. I love this kind of discussion. Don't be a stranger my friend.

    • @YTWanderer
      @YTWanderer 3 года назад

@@AdventureGameHotspot No worries. I love these kind of discussions as well 😊
I won`t hate anyone for having different preferences when it comes to media.
Although that`s not entirely true. People who genuinly love the Star Wars Prequel trilogy and favour them over the original unaltered trilogy are kinda suspicious to me 😂
I´m in the "MI2 ending dislike" camp. I was extremely disappointed when I first finished it in 1992 and still don`t like it.
If Ron Gilbert actually would have written Part 3 my perception of that ending probably would have changed...
The rest of the game still is very good but lacks much of the original`s charm in my opinion.
I´ll definately play *KQ6* ! First and foremost because of Jane Jensen`s involvelment.
I´m not a big fan of the KQ games that I´ve played.
Momentarily my favourite KQ is the *AGI remake* of *KQ2*
I think *GK1* is my 2nd most replayed AG after *BS1*
Another run is very likely. I´ll consider giving the 2014 remake a try.
Have you played that one ?
Yeah, *BS1* still manages to occupy my mind.
I was hoping for a picturazation and I think it could still work as a movie.
It also could work not just as a mystery thriller but also as a subtle satire on the whole Y2K craze and conspiracy theories.
*BS5* was OK but doesn`t hold a candle to the original.
The thing I disliked the most have been the animated cut scenes.
They reminded me too much of the *Runaway* series which I dislike a lot.
The only good thing about *Runaway* was the inventory system where you could actually see the protagonist manipuating the inventory items. That was a really nice innovation.

@@YTWanderer it's funny that you mentioning the KQ2 remake as your favorite. I did a video ranking my favorite King's Quest games and had it second on my list. People went nuts. I love the facelift and the adjustments in story.
I think the time for a BS movie was 20 years ago. The templar story was still hot then. It's a bit dated now.
