Thank' s a lot for sharing, it's a real breakthrough for me personally, now songs like doomsday jesus are double - fun ! As many other players ( the ones I know ), I struggled a lot to much with the plek - technique and it don't has given the proper results. By the way, your lessons are very helpfull , not only but especially for beginners, because you're hiting the point what characterizes this kind of music. So all you smart alecks, who try find the one hair in every soup or videolesson - clip : Go shit in your hat ! ( like Uncle Junior Soprano once said )
Let me see if I can put this into words. On the way to the fretboard he taps the string you will notice the hammer-on motion, that movement starts the string vibrating. Then as he pulls off the Top (6th) string he chimes the 5th string off of his finger just as you would when you use a pick. If you stop and think about it, it's not much different in the dynamics. With the pick you also get the string moving with the pick strike and the string chimes off the side of your thumb.
Oh yeah, and pretty much all of the gain you can get before too much feedback occurs will really make it easier until you get the hang of it, then you can probably do it on an acoustic.
