0:51 What touches me is that Kotaro thinks that if Mizuki goes to the police, her ex-boyfriend will become a bad person because of her. I feel like Kotaro, and people who are victims of that kind of situation, think that they are to blame for the people they love being bad, when it's actually the other way around. It makes me sad that Kotaro feels guilty that his parents weren't good to him. How can a child be guilty of something like that? You are not guilty of anything Kotaro, no child is.
Well said. But the show was right to portray him in this way because he is a child and it makes sense that he would think in such a simplistic way. It is also important that he show Mizuki this logic of his in order to help her understand not to think like him. It's not just only child victims who think like that but even adults too. Mizuki seeing a child think like that no doubt shocked her and made her want to show him that he shouldn't think like that going forward. They basically helped each other in this scene and it's beautiful.
According to most Psychologist, a child's mindset is like this everytime a child sees his/her parents fighting, the child will always selfblame. It's true because I grew up seeing my parents fight all night, and I developed this negative trait. Therapy helped me a lot but its a hard process.
Kotaro throughout has told his friends it's okay to cry, but when it's his turn he puts on his hero's face. I legit cried as soon as they cut to him looking down. Saying 'I remember no such promise' after their times spent together, only proves his heroism showing his love for Mizuki understanding the circumstances. this scene legit broke me. such a great series.
The “daisuki” at the end got me. He may never see Mizuki ever again, but it’s such a different way of parting for him to experience. Her VA deserves a lot of credit for getting so much emotion into this reading.
@@Anonymous-jj9yu Probably because Kotaro didn't know. Many people that left his life were gone forever. Throughout his journey, he met many adults that taught him many things (including a homeless man), but as lives go on, everyone has to move onto different directions. As everyone moves on, they'll have hard time to always keep in contact, especially to a kid like Kotaro. However, now Kotaro has a more stable life, and he's relationships with others also got stabilized, so people may move out of his environment, but that doesn't mean they're gone forever now.

You're not alone in that hope, but this anime loves throwing a wrench of reality into any hopes for a happy ever after. Karino and Mizuki becoming Kotaro's permanent legal family would be what Kotaro deserves after everything he has gone through his short life, but I suppose that was too idealistic.
the one we love to happen but realistically, that is very unlikely to happen. We really love to see them develop some mutual feelings to take care of Kotaro since they also had scars in the past. As Kotaro will be the one who heals their wounds and will start to live once more. This shows that life won't always be on your side most of the time, as humans aren't strong physically or mentally. Humans are fragile, it is okay to complain sometimes but you have to fight because complaining won't get you anywhere. It is better to face the problem than to run till the problems will be too unbearable to carry.
