Just bought $100k at 113. It's now my largest holding. If it falls more, I'll be sorely tempted to buy more.
Yeah, I get the risks of investing in Chinese equities... but... but... Ray Dalio and Charlie Munger have done the due diligence in 2021, and dropped billions into it.
And I'm NOT saying just buy something on a "me too" trade. I'm saying that everything I can see says this stock is way undervalued. And what is opaque to me, I believe Dalio and Munger's people would have explored.

Very good analysis; however just want to share with both of you that Daniel Zhang is not one of the 12 founding members even though he has been working for a very long time with Jack Ma in the company.

what is happening to BABA. is Softbank going to sell?
Definitely got some big risks, but I believe that lots of the risk is already factored into the low price. Being that I have a long time horizon and I'm comfortable with risk when there's a huge potential upside, I'm happy to be invested. My fist buy in was at the price of $260, but I've since averaged down, currently at $184 and may continue adding.

Taobao is an amazing site, can buy almost anything under the sun. It does tremendously well connecting Chinese factories to anyone anywhere.
Share structure should have been mentioned Brian. This is a holding company based in the Cayman Islands.... anyone want to own a variable interest entity and claims to a worthless piece of paper? Not me.
Yup -- that's a risk that we broadly covered in "geopolitical risk".
Enjoyed the vid, but is there any reason you didn’t mention the VIE structure and Cross-ownership? Tencent literally just had to divest from JD and I honestly wouldn’t be shocked to see the Sea divestment accelerate too. If Tencent is being asked to clean house I don’t see how Alibaba will avoid it.
Good question -- I think that was broadly covered when we highlighted the geopolitical risk. We tried to make it clear that we like the business but the biggest risk is just the fact that it's based in China. That's a risk that some people are comfortable with, others are not.

I own both Alibaba as well as Tencent. The way Tencent gave the JD shares to Tencent shareholders was a very clever move. I had never owned JD shares directly, but do appreciate the way Tencent did this.

Whole discussion, but never mentions VIE structure and how convoluted the "ownership" claim foreign investors have OR DONT HAVE to mainland Baba. Huh?
Its not geo political risk, which is too generalized. Its ownership risk, an investors has no ownership. Additionally, the reason people buy stocks is because they are claimants to the cashflow (protected by the court system) or residual equity, AGIAN, $BABA doesnt provide these via the VIE structure.

I love baba but the problem is the country not the company, we can analyze it left and right but when the ccp decides to pull the rug under your feet and the companies feet nobody and nothing will stop them :((((

Look at the hang seng index when buying a china tech stock. Look at the big macro fib resistances and supports. It's kinda like looking at the S&P before buying google or amazon.
