    I have noticed anything over true 2000 watts rms. It really dont matter if its a trunk or a truck. Rattles are going to happen,thats just what it is. Soo i had the body shop cut the frame from behind the back seat. I then brace the trunk with wood and spray foam,plus thick sound deadener. Made a huge difference.

    I removed my back seat and the deck panel where the 6x9’s mounted and basically made my grand marquis a hatchback/wagon. Since doing that my 9 cubic foot box ported to 24hz breathes great. I sometimes use ports for 30 or so hz tuning but I don’t care about being loud. I also injected foam into my trunk lid and bumper. Long ago my locking mechanism got tore from its mounting so I jb welded it all back together and ran two thick treaded rods to bolt down my trunk I still have a lil bit of rattle. Hair tricks all day with notes ranging from 18hz-28hz. Two Adire Kalis on an 8k 300 amp Alt and two XSpower d7500. About 4500 watts on my mids and highs and plenty of 0 gauge everywhere. I will say though, putting them in the trunk is way better than what I attempted: Took my back seats out of my mustang convertible and put 10 inch subs pointing upward while the motors fit nicely into the seat well. Unfortunately I can't even call it a proper box because I have constant rattles coming from numerous places not being sealed right. I only put them back there because I didnt think I could fit a box in the trunk but now after actually trying....I got them in there still even with proper cubic feet of air space in the new box. Very minimal volume but I am in spec.

    Years ago I had an '02 Dodge Intrepid with a single 12" Kicker L7 on a Cadence 800 watt amp. The box was 3 cu ft net ported at 38hz. Sounded ok, but rattled like hell. I was reading some information on a home audio forum, and they were talking about the space needed between the floor and the bottom of the enclosure for ported downfiring subs. They said that the opening to let all the sound out had to equal the surface area of the subwoofer and the port. So, I knew that just deleting the rear deck speakers wouldn't be enough. I took out the top half of the backseat in my Intrepid. The sub box took up a lot of that open space, but I still had more than equal to the sub and port. I couldn't believe the difference. It was like adding another 12. It just slammed.

    • @majed6956
      @majed6956 Год назад +1

      I will add that my sub and the port were facing backwards, not firing into the cabin. There was maybe 10 inches of space. I believe this also helped the sound load off of something and travel back into the cabin.

    MB. I’m tryna get air in my cabin. I’m new to this. I’m thinking 4th order with one port that 90s into the empty 10 in slot into my rear deck. Do you think that would stop the trunk rattle

    I have done too many trunk installs at the end of the day trust me just get a hatchback. Takes a lot of fabrication to make a trunk system right. Hatchback is king!

    Yeah, those old school cars that's probably the best solution.... but newer cars not so much... first off, the bass is going to get in the car. If you are running a DSP and it's tuned right with proper time alignment for your subs, the bass will sound alot better and play right in the listening position in the car.... the only way I would port my rear deck or backseat is for a bandpass setup.... and porting the rear deck does nothing in terms of gaining output.

    02 lexus ls430 has opening in the back seat. So having a ported box in the truck with the opening in the back seat helps. And d9es that technically make it a 4th or 6th order box now?

    Funny you are showing SS Impala....those would kill the bass when you close the trunk if it's smaller box....the trunk just cancels much of bass...now with a big ported box say 4x12s that would change acoustics of that trunk and sounded as good a woofers in trunk could sound ...when those cars were new we did 4x10 in 4th order bandpass vented thru deck...that worked really well...

  • @robtremble2277

    i think the best way to do it is to cut the rear deck and have the woofers fire off the glass

    What about for a 84 z28 camaro. The trunk area is open to the cabin but the space for the box isn’t that large. What’s a good set up for a 3rd Gen camaro?

  • @lemar1450

    Nah. I aint get no problems hearing or feeling them 15s. My inside bass was hittin my body hard as f*ck pushing through them back seats. It had them sucking in and out like they were breathing. People didnt like sitting in the back seat because it slapped they back. It is true you can maximize the bass flow to get louder by letting down the seat or dash vents though. You want to penetrate them seats and have your seats moving like subwoofers? You gon have to compress and move alot of air with as much cone mass that you can spare and nothing under 2000 watts of real rms power minimum. The higher the better.

    Quick question. I put 6x9s in my 97 accord. Now they have too much bass. I turned all the bass down. Well tried too. Now they distort when i turn my subs up. How do i combat that. Go back to 6.5s .
