Will try this next Cyrodiil campaign! Finally farmed up a BSW staff (couple hours ago, really), I used to wear BSW armor, Impregnable Armor weps/jewelry and Bloodspawn a year or two ago, and I did so well in BG's and so on. Was genuinely sad realizing MagDK was "dead". Now these new mythic items, and the buff to recoveries has made me bring my old MagDK out of retirement - running it in heavy now, and it works absolutely great. But I like trying different builds out, and this looks much like what I'm used to already. A friendly tip, try a decisive weapon out on backbar if you haven't already. It's soooooo good, and I would never go anything else, except perhaps Nirnhoned for a little stronger healing/damage. I use that strategy on almost every PVP build with S&B. Makes huge difference.
For those running this in No CP/BG, I recommend using the atronarch mundus stone with 2 pieces of resistance monster sets(~3k resist, 100% uptime) like pirate skeleton + chudan. I dislike the proc chance of blood spawn, and without atro mundus sustain is a little rough in No CP/BG.
Because of this video, I finally decided to grind my Scrying ability specifically to get the Ring of the Wild Hunt. It took me 4 days and I FINISHED last night at 12:30AM Next up: Malacath
perfect build, i don't have the mythic peice i just returned to eso but i have all this gear already. the last time i played i played your old build with bsw rattlecage and bs it was a beast
Man I miss those days, meta was so much more fun than todays. Either way you can play this without the mythic too, check out the description for timestamps, I go over it!
Hi! I noticed you have a light armor build, but that you are using a Heavy armor head piece and a Heavy armor chest piece. I have seen some other users incorporate 1 piece of heavy and 1 piece of medium to get the passives, so I thought I would inquire why you are using two heavy pieces? I am trying to work toward your build and am wondering if I should get the chest piece in Light armor (jerkin of the trainee), and the head piece heavy armor and the shoulders medium. What do you think? Also, a 2nd question. Another commentor mentioned that the sustain on this might be difficult if you are doing PvP in No-CP zones, and he recommended using a different monster set, and a different mundus stone (Atronach). I am level 400 something and mostly fight in No-CP. What do you think?? Thank you! Love your videos and have enjoyed watching you stream!
Quite certain I answered your first question on stream yesterday, if that wasn't you do let me know! As for your second question, I agree sustain is an issue in noCP, but giving up bloodspawn would reduce your sustain a whole lot since your ult is sustain on magdk due to the battleroar passive. Also a huge loss changing mundus. I would instead use more sustain through jewelry enchants if anything :) Glad to hear you're enjoying my content mate!
Running a 5/2 instead of a 5/1/1 is pretty common for some mag classes. For instance Nightblade has the Shadow Barrier passive that gives them major resolve when they pop any shadow ability that increases the duration by 25% for each piece of heavy armor they are wearing. So they have an incentive to lose a little max stats running 5/1/1, and trade it for more major resolve uptime. But some builds don't need max stats, and instead need the passives that heavy armor gives you so choosing to run 5/2 is pretty common especially for PVP builds. Some people even run 6/1 setups.
Nirn I love u soooooo muchhhh I’ve been out of ideas on a no mythic build and you’ve helped me so much with this vid, anyone that sees this how would u like warlock, burning spellweave, bloodspawn, with 3 swift
Hey Nirnstorm, I’m having a problem! I put this gear combination on and my health plummeted... it’s at 20.7K. I have double checked that I have all the same gear, and all the same enchantments. For food I have crown fortifying meal and sugar skulls (it’s only ~200 health buff difference between them). I don’t know what I am missing?? Your health in the video is at like 27.1K. I do not have the Psijic skill line, could that be it? Also I am champion level 458, but would that even impact my overall health? I usually go into No-CP anyway, for that reason. Also I am playing as a dark elf, would that impact it?
Make sure that: 1. You have the Undaunted and Heavy Armor passives 2. You're inside Cyrodiil or a PvP area 3. You have your CP applied, not just aquired. All these factors effect your health. And yes in noCP your health will be lower, all your three main stats will be. If you can't figure this out feel free to hop on stream again tomorrow and ask me there, I'll troubleshoot it with you live :)
man..... never throught about bloodthorn but im so used to lich lol. im sure it will still work fine, but gonna have to keep that in mind. definitely a fan of using the ring though, i been using it for a hot minute now and my goodness its awesome!
Yeah I like lich/warlock quite a bit as well. Bloodthorn is basically giving up on quite a big of net mag gain from those sets for constant stam gain, which allows me to duct tape my block down more effectively though!
I have just a couple inquiries, now having played this build for the past week and a half. It’s great fun by the way! 1st off, I’ve been using cauterize and flame lash because I just felt like those heals were difficult to pass up. I tried the others and in different combos. Nice little boost of damage but I noticed more of an overall difference personally with the healing versions both on. 2nd, I’ve been a little confused about ‘blessed’ in cp tree. I am hearing from people that it only counts for outbound heals to other players. If not, what is the true difference between blessed and quick recovery? 3rd, why not run 75 thaumaturge? Considering the number of dots we run, wouldn’t it be beneficial on top of the 10% off-balanced damage? I can see that the other points allocated are also giving damage but it feels like the stronger dots are invaluable. These are my observations based on a months experience with magdk. I would like to have your input as to why you believe the CP is best allocated your way and on another note how you survive so well without the healing morph abilities.
Blessed buffs your outgoing healing whether it be to yourself or others, quick recovery increases your incoming healing whether it comes from you or others. Also, Thaum and off-balance probably wouldn't be bad to go for with flame lash, but I figure he went the other way due to not using flame lash. Lastly, the reason he can stay alive so well on this build is the combination of his skill with healing with class, and the high pressure it puts out on targets (Flames of Oblivion hits 2 ppl at a time,, and also the burst of Molten Whip is huge). Putting out that kind of pressure keeps groups from free casting skills on his forehead as they have to be defensive. No amount of healing will save you if you're not putting out good pressure.
Hi there, only now catching up on comments. Zark explained a lot of the things just about spot on (love ya Zark) including the relevancy of blessed and my ability to survive with the offensive morphs. I'll add in addition to that though, that if you didn't feel a significant difference in damage output between my skills setup and the defensive morphs of lash and oblivion, you must not have been playing the build the way it was meant to! The goal is to build up a burst using FoO as your spammable, not to spam your whip. Then once the enemy is low from FoO and a bit of dots pressure, you destroy them with a leap into a whip with a well timed CC. This is also why stacking a lot of points into Thaum isn't great with this build, since we don't rely on either dots or off balance to kill anything, but rather on our direct damage abilities such as FoO and molten whip, which are unaffected by thaum.
Actually, I have another question (sorry!!). On your front bar you have the burning spelleeave staff, and on your back bar you have bloodthorn sword and shield. Why not also put burning spellweave sword and shield in your back bar? And then you’d have to replace two pieces of your burning spelweave armor with bloodthorn armor to make up the difference. But then, both sets would be active at all times, right? Instead of only having 1 set active at a time depending on which weapon you’re using.
Sadly that's impossible! You can only fit 2 monster helm pieces, mythic, 1 trainee and 2 5pc sets when you 1bar each set. If you did what you suggested, you'd have 5 bloodthorn always, but only 3 BSW at all times. You'll have 5 pieces of bsw on your build, but two on opposing bars, so only 3 active at a time
NirnStorm omg. I feel so dumb. I’ve been doing this on my current set for a while now!!! What a waste!! Well, no, maybe I haven’t, since I don’t have the trainee and mythic on my current set. But I see what you’re saying
Nice! i was stuglling with the mobility a lot since magdk have to be in melee range to be efficient... what do you think of using molten armaments instead of degeneration? i know degen has a dot but molten armaments is kinda cheap since it has a huge duration, and also it gives major brutality
Major brut doesn't really give you anything on this build since you don't have any significant sources of damage that scale off of physical damage. The dot from degen is relevant enough in my opinion to justify it over molten which doesn't give any added value, but either can work
NirnStorm i see bloodthorn is on the back bar but i don,t see any direct damage skills to activate the set with. only dots on the bar and buffs are we activating this set with a light or does that not work
Engulfing has a direct damage AOE in it alongside the dot, and more importantly, volatile armor damage return can proc it easily when enemies attack you, so you don't even have to do anything other than being on the back bar with armor buff up!
That's right, and that's more than enough to activate the set most of the time, considering as anything that's not a DOT is a direct damage ability. Can always cast volatile or engulfing if the enemy is not attacking to force a proc.
Are there any other recommendations other than Bloodspawn? The 6% chance seems EXTREMELY low which means the proc will happen next to never imo, or am I missing some hidden multiplier that increases it?
Keep in mind Bloodspawn has 6% chance to proc EVERY TIME you take damage. Imagine you have 6 dots on you and 3 players attacking you. That gives you 9×6=54% per second, having it proc every two seconds. If you're playing outnumbered or vs anything that hits with multiple damage sources at once (which is everything in PvP nowadays) bloodspawn is SUPER reliable. By far my favorite set.
The main issue with both Succession and Sun is that it buffs your flame damage, not your spell damage. Meaning it doesn't effect your heals! You need sets that buff your actual spell damage for Coag to be worth a damn and for ember heals to get you to full as well!
Have you used a lightning staff recently? I’m assuming it will work almost as well as an inferno staff since now the lightning hits 6 targets instead of 2. Just cannot get inferno staff to drop for me... found my first lightning after opening 400+ chests in CoA
I also considered the fact that the light/heavy attacks won’t activate bsw but since chasing won’t be a problem with the speed of this build and due to dk using flame abilities as it is, a lightning staff wont even need a flame enchant to keep bsw up
@@zachdevall8522 i mean, i feel like it could work for a while, but the inferno staff would be a lot better cus of the buff to the single target damage from the destro staff passive
Shinmo__ I agree, even though the damage increase is only from heavy attacks which I never do anyways, plus it was reduced down to 12% from 15%. I’m only considering lightning because I have literally opened over 500 chests in CoA within the last 4 days and no luck on the inferno.
@@zachdevall8522 no, i mean, 5here's another destro passive that buffs single target with inferno staff equipped. Also i would fight everything in coa, it's rare, but trash mobs CAN drop weapons and jewelry
The major loss won't be from activating BSW, you'll activate that super easily with any of your dots. Your huge loss will be as Shinmo said from the Ancient Knowledge passive which will make the vast majority of your abilities deal 8% LESS damage if you don't use Flame staff. Getting my first BSW took me 173 runs of the dungeon (transmutes didn't exist in the time either) so I definitely feel the pain man. You'll get it eventually!
wiould probably use only 1 spell dmg jewelry enchant and for the 2nd go with spell cost reduction. this way you have a bit less dmg then breton but better sustain
Agreed with the comment above, a single additional infused regen/cost reduction jewelry usually makes up the difference, the stats won't be exactly the same but they'll be close enough to manage similarly! I like dark elf quite a bit too, I wouldn't recommend for you to spend money to change it unless you actually feel the need to by yourself
I love the use of bloodthorn and wild ring. I'll definitly give this setup a try ! Did you try elemental succession instead of burning spellweave ? It gives the roughly the same amount of damage, but you can have it 100% of the time. Also, why not using the minor heroïsm potion for even more ult regen and fun with leap ? :)
Glad you love the concept! Ele succession has one core issue - it only buffs you flame damage, meaning it does NOT buff your heals. MagDK desperately needs its heals to scale as much as possible since let's face it, it's heals are garbage and it has no cleanse. As for heroism pots- if you can afford those, by all means go for it! I don't put them on the build since they're expensive af and this build is meant for anyone out there who has a magdk, but they're great forsure!
Well, it doesn't give you more survivability overall since it doesn't heal you. But it BURNS enemies which is the most fun in mDKs in my opinion. So much more fun to play with!
Can this work for PvE or is there a simple skill swap for a PvE viable version of this? Just looking to be able to be semi viable for both PvE and PvP.
For casual level PvE, as in questing on dungeons, it will work great. For end-game trials tho, you would need to optimize your damage and then no PvP build would fit, you'd need a PvE specific build :)
@@NirnStorm When you say optimize damage, do you mean lessen the single target and up the AoE? But hey, thanks for the response brother. Yeah I'm very new to ESO (playing for like 3 weeks) but I love the community and the game itself. Appreciate channels like yours that help new players and go the distance to respond to comments. Thanks man.
@@MiNCRUM you're welcome brother! Always happy to help. I don't necessarily mean single target vs AoE, I'm not much of a PvEr myself, but I mainly mean that PvE builds tend to spec specifically just for damage whereas PvP builds have to spec to self healing, resistances etc etc
Honestly? Just came to see what your main offensive set was. I stepped away from the game for a while and now really have an itch for magdk over stamdk finally because i miss it as my main.
Between light armor and eledrain, we easily reach over 10k pen, so I don't feel a huge need for more into spell erosion than I currently have! Feel free to change things up based on your playstyle
@@VtreyusV3 at this point I wouldn't, maybe if they buffed it a bit again. The main issue with Bloodthirsty is that it only buffs your damage done but not your healing, and as you probably know, magDK suffers bigtime with the expensive weaker heals and no cleanse :) I'm glad you're enjoying the build a lot man!
@@NirnStorm Well, its still just rough playing Magdk without the heavy Mal proc carry, Ngl. However, I've had a lot of fun with it for sure . Feel like I need to get the feel back still
@@bhackaa you'll get your MDK senses back in no time, you've not been long enough to lose the power of the dragon ;) In the meantime, mala groth carry is the easiest thing to play in the universe!
@@NirnStorm "My Magdk senses are tingling.." Mal and proc Magdk leaves an unsavory taste in my mouth, like eating asparagus past it's prime. I've definitely been bursting people, and have had some fun fights. Honestly if the performance wasn't a joke on PS4 I'd have a handful of clips already, but only so much I can do when halfway through a fight all I can do is walk around trying desperately to bar swap lol
You can purchase Bloodthorn's for hella cheap on guild traders Burning Spellweave is a dungeon set so you will have to run the dungeon (will take forever to get the inferno), a solid alternative set would be Silks of the Sun (this one can be found in Guild traders). It is very comparable, being better offensively but not helping your heals when you flip bars. Bloodspawn (not purchasable) helm is acquired upon completion of Vet Spindleclutch II, and the shoulders can be rolled from Maj Al Ragath using undaunted keys (you get them from pledges). The Sturdy Trainee chest has a named drop called the "Queen's Own" cuirass which can be snagged from the Kenarthi Roost quest line (AD starter island)

Is this build viable in no-CP campaign? Or maybe you would change something?
For noCP you can replace some damage with extra sustain, will need a bit better mag management
Nice build i like it. i’m running a mag dk with alfiq atm and damage output is good. i like your use of mythic tho.
do you think that this build will change with the markarth update?
Yes, I'll be testing out a newer version of it live on stream today, assuming it works perfectly I hope to be publishing it throughout the week :)
@@NirnStorm thanks! I'll try to check the stream if I can!
@NirnStorm would Spinners work instead of BSW
I don’t have pay to win stuff but thumbs up for not running there proc sets
If I choose to go dark elf since i dont wanna spend cash to change what would I change to the build for sustain?
wiould probably use only 1 spell dmg jewelry enchant and for the 2nd go with spell cost reduction. this way you have a bit less dmg then breton but better sustain
What is the inventory add-on you're using?
It's called Inventory Grid View, I got an addons guide vid on my channel if you wanna see additional ones I recommend
@@NirnStorm Thanks very much for the response, also great video by the way very well done.
Love this build might go back to Breton DK now. What Style armour are you wearing btw 👀
Haha I've no clue, will have to check! Glad you love the build!
Just give mdk a cleanse thru cauterize just like warden's netch
Wow my 2018 build still works today. I haven't played ESO in so long cause of the lag. Is Cyro fixed? Would love to run this setup again haha
OG sets being rebuffed! But Cyro is more broken than ever sadly, so big RIP.
whats the name of that addons that shows APh ?
AP Meter by my friend Ghostbane. It's on minion!
Can i have a written version pls? Gonna alter my pve build to pvp... Thx
anyone telling you flame lash is the way is wrong molten whip gives way more dmg sustain and survival because you can actually burst people
Well, it doesn't give you more survivability overall since it doesn't heal you. But it BURNS enemies which is the most fun in mDKs in my opinion. So much more fun to play with!
I run an argonian mag dk, healing is really impressive
Which music is this?:)
If I recall correctly its from the TES IV: Oblivion game :)
Why so little points into Spell Erosion?
Between light armor and eledrain, we easily reach over 10k pen, so I don't feel a huge need for more into spell erosion than I currently have! Feel free to change things up based on your playstyle
@@NirnStorm Thanks for the reply, I've been running this build for the past 2 weeks. And it's been awesome. Performing above my expectations.
@@NirnStorm Thank you for this build, I've been loving it. Would you consider changing the infused rings to bloodthirsty or nah?
@@VtreyusV3 at this point I wouldn't, maybe if they buffed it a bit again. The main issue with Bloodthirsty is that it only buffs your damage done but not your healing, and as you probably know, magDK suffers bigtime with the expensive weaker heals and no cleanse :)
I'm glad you're enjoying the build a lot man!
Can you do a build without the mythical items for non greymore players
Check the timestamps in the description, I explain how to adapt the build to no Mythic in this vid!
Is this viable in no cp / bg ?
I was also thinking running 5 x divines to boost the lady mundus instead of sturdy....
Sage0ne I think Im going to split divines and sturdy is that a good idea this is my first real build?
@@OnTheRiver14 go all sturdy or well fitted for cheap dodge rolls and two impenetrable
So contemplating crafting a Innate Axiom nirnhoned inferno staff and running IA instead of BSW because I am not about to farm for it.
Sage0ne IA?
for no CP as well?
I haven't played it in noCP yet, but I believe it should work well overall!
Hmm I have all of this in my bank golded out.. Return of the Nirnstorm mag DK build to the Ps4 NA server? Edit: ok saw ur already using Wild Hunt
Rip hopes and dreams?
@@NirnStorm Well, its still just rough playing Magdk without the heavy Mal proc carry, Ngl. However, I've had a lot of fun with it for sure . Feel like I need to get the feel back still
@@bhackaa you'll get your MDK senses back in no time, you've not been long enough to lose the power of the dragon ;)
In the meantime, mala groth carry is the easiest thing to play in the universe!
@@NirnStorm "My Magdk senses are tingling.."
Mal and proc Magdk leaves an unsavory taste in my mouth, like eating asparagus past it's prime.
I've definitely been bursting people, and have had some fun fights. Honestly if the performance wasn't a joke on PS4 I'd have a handful of clips already, but only so much I can do when halfway through a fight all I can do is walk around trying desperately to bar swap lol
a week later... AND IM BACK!
WHERE U AT THO
im not good at all in pvp and i try the build on some bg and finally got some kills
Glad it's been working out for you!
Could i just run no mythic ring
Yes you could, look at 23:28 in this video, I explain how to :D
Im on my first character I just got to 170cp, think I’ll be able to buy all these sets with 400k gold
You can purchase Bloodthorn's for hella cheap on guild traders
Burning Spellweave is a dungeon set so you will have to run the dungeon (will take forever to get the inferno), a solid alternative set would be Silks of the Sun (this one can be found in Guild traders).
Eric Van Note Man, thank you this was really helpful!
@@OnTheRiver14 Yeah no problem!
Strim
Bro, u sound like an mma fighter George st pierre lol
Man I’m happy to see a build without malacath fuck that shit man pay to win bullshit
will an argonian work well with this build?
Definitely can!
