- I’m building a 53’ Flat Bottom Wooden River Boat, singlehanded. "Buy Me a Coffee" at www.buymeacoff... I maintain a 7 acre property with Maple, our rescue dog. We have kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, galahs, cockatoos and much more. Occasionally we even see a pair of stunning wedge tail eagles that have been long time residents of the area. I am also a musician and write and record all the music for each video.
Love Maple’s happy dance at the end of the video!
haha thanks Mark, good to see her back on track.
Soon will come the 'I'm still coating Yeah Yeah Yeah'...
And finally the 'I'm still Standyng ;)'
And I'm still cruising. up the river too I hope. LOL
.Thats Boatbuilding for you 90% sanding, great video thanks so much for that.
My pleasure. The video that is, not the sanding lol
So glad that little cruise missile of a pup is ok! Watching the awakening after sedation and seeing the playfulness was the highlight of this episode! No quitter that one!
Thanks Kevin. Yep, she is a pocket. rocket for sure. Winning my heart big time.
i know that it must get dusty in the boat you can make a home made air filter with a box fan and 3 to 4 a/c filters forming a box around the fan. MIGHT! help with the clean up
Yep, good idea, although the front is the worst srea to do and it's nearly done. Thanks for the tip.
Got a real kick watching Maple with the case of the zoomies. It was a bit of a hoot.
Also like seeing the trim installation and prepping is giving your boat a more finished, comfortable, warm and nautical look and less of a cold harsh plain working utility boat look.
Yes indeed. Very happy Maple is back on track. The boat will look quite 'utility' until all the second fix trim, bits and pieces etc go on. She will transform then very quickly. I can't wait. Thanks for watching, steve and the pup
I'm curious why you chose to not curve the bow upwards as so many do? I imagined it was to allow the boat to nose into shore without getting stuck with the bow digging into a soft muddy bank.
The flat bottom rises up 6" from the wheelhouse to the stem post. This should see the bottom of the bow sitting a few inched below the waterline, which should allow us to nose into shallow beaches. And the straight stem was really a choice to do with where I stop regarding length. I could have flared the bow and has a metre (yard) of overhang which would assist with reaching over some river banks, but I had to stop somewhere LOL Cheers Steve
Looking good old mate but think Maple might need a chill pill.
thanks. Well it's good to see her go a bit nuts after her ordeal. She is usually pretty chilled for a 10 month old pup. Just needs a run and a play a couple of time a day and she is content.
Im still sanding Yeah Yah Yeah... Do you know the music?
Of course, not sure if I can get Elton on the sander or not. I'll flick him a text and see if he's available hahaha
Great progress 😊😊😊
Thanks Eric, might be some varnish in the next video.
you should look into mirka sanders i have been using them on boats for years expensive but the time they save you make them worth it you will never use anything else after using one
Yes, I am familia with them. They are as you say, fabulous, but also expensive. For most of the larger work I am happy with my 6" Makita orbital. And for now I will persist with the little Ozito for the smaller spaces. It's not doing a bad job to be honest.
The good thing about ozito is that they replace their tools if they fail within 3 years, they are definitely worth it even though they are noisier than expensive ones, I own a lot of festool machines but their just their pads cost twice the price of an ozito sander,
Yep, absolutely crazy. My Makita 6" is great for the larger surfaces. Thanks for watching, Steve and the mighty Maple.
Your commitment to sanding is amazing. The surface prep will turn out great. Sidebar question…do you have any live music performances on YT or any other platforms?
As always she is a work of art. I am looking forward to the moment when you get to putting in the electronics.
Thanks, yes me too. Mind you, there won't be much. Just. the very basics required for the engines, fuel, water and black water tank gages. Maybe a depth sounder. GPS and nav stuff will be on my laptop. Cheers, the dog and me.
Somebody was feeling good. Good enough to get the zoomies! Lol!
Ooooh yeah!!!!!
Tnx for sharing your awesome work again! 👌 When do you think ( or wish 😉) she will be ready for her maiden voyage?
Well Erik, that is the question isn't it. To be honest, I really don't know. I hope within 6 months or so. It just depends on how persistant I am with getting it done. Cheers.
@@steveshierdoesstuff7420 Wow, that sounds ambitious 🙈 but i like a man with a plan! 💪🏼😉. And have you thought about how you are going to launch her?
As always...thank you & Goodonyas!!
Yeah maaaate! Going as hard as my old body will allow.
@@steveshierdoesstuff7420 seen that movie ! Take care of your knees, ur gonna need'm as we get older! Ha
@@Twelvestonestacking hahaha I am older and I do need them. And yes, I am being super careful with all the old bits of me that are wearing out. Cheers, old me and the young pup
Could be a cover of Elton John for you!
Yep, that's the song for sure. I put a call into Elton to see if he was available to help with the sanding, or to just sing while I worked, but he has not responded as yet.
bravo pierrot et marcelle de cerny france amitier
Many thanks to you on the other side of the world. Take care and keep watching.Steve and Maple
Looks great!
Thanks oldwillie. I am pretty happy with her soo far. There are always things you would do differently second time round, but I am actually quietly surprise at how well everything is coming together now. Cheers, Steve and Maple
Good stuff Steve
