  • In an awesome Spring river trip with Ron from Hook'd on Smallmouth Bass, we hit the river on a kayak mission for some Pre/Post-spawn Smallmouth Bass fishing. Once we found a pattern, the fishing was busy and absolutely spectacular!!! Par for the course, the ned rig played a HUGE role in our success.

It was a great day. Probably the best, overall, in a couple of years.

All the gear and you know exactly what you're doing 😘 To be honest, I want to catch fish to eat.

I typically specifically target sportfish. There's not a lot that's edible in the area of the Potomac region.

See why it took three weeks for a single day? You have no idea how much I had to cut out of this mini-series. It was absolutely insane! But it's June now and we are back to reality.

Hog after hog. It’s a good day when you can make three videos out of the day.

At this point, I kinda wish I'd done the whole thing as a single release. The views on this series have been terrible! Lesson learned, I guess. That's what I get for trying to milk it.

@@BarryP You can still put out a full version. Slap a “director’s cut” on it.

I don't know if Black Hills is going to be any better. I avoid weekends like the plague.

Love these videos man. I came across the south branch videos and got hooked. How do you fish the big TRD? Slow retrieve on the bottom or do you pop it?

Thank you, Aaron! I try to match the conditions. In warmer, calmer water, I go slower and more methodically. In cooler faster water, I tend to move it a bit more. Much like fly fishing, I find it better to "match the hatch" and the behavior of the minnows and craws that Smallies will be eating. Observation of the prey tends to lead me to the right retrieve. Thank you for the video "tip" idea. It's now on my whiteboard of stuff to do while out there.
