@@electric8668 Why always this way of bringing back everything to Hendrix ? Two men changed completely the guitar world : Jimi and Eddie. Hendrix opened a new door in the guitar playing, for sure, but without Eddie Van Halen, the guitar world would absolutely not be the same. Tapping, artificial harmonics, violoning, and so many technics have not been taught to Van Halen by Hendrix...Eddie invented a new way of playing guitar, even if Jimi has influenced him.

From 1978-2015 Eddie would either add parts to it or take parts away.Never played it the same way.He experimented with different sounds he could get from it.He even built that guitar himself with various guitar parts

Listen to the album version, this live 'for the fans' version is basically an anthology of Eddies most famous guitar licks intertwined into the Eruption solo. On the album Eruption serves as the intro to their cover of the Kinks - You Really Got Me, it's shorter, tighter, and it is amazing, like people remember when they were the first time they heard Eruption (high school parking lot in my '68 firebird).

I grew up a Van halen fan together with all the hard rock and heavy metal from the 80's and 90's. This solo still amazes me every time. He gets so many sounds out of that guitar that he built and continually modified himself. At times it sounds like a guitar, a synth, violins as he taps pulls, picks and beats the guitar. It almost wants to talk at times. Just mind blowing. He invented so many techniques and has been copied over and over. In this solo you hear so much from both eras of Van halen (with David Lee Roth and later with Sammy Hagar- shown here as a singer). There are even parts that sound like classical music on an electric guitar... Crazy good. He's self taught and plays so many instruments.

Great reaction!! I've seen this countless times, and it still amazes and engages me - RIP Eddie, a master at the axe!
Just so you're clear Polo - this solo wasn't just the song Eruption (which you should check in it's own right for context). This was no less than 3 other 'songs' Eddie has done, plus a bunch of other noodling. The first part when he's sitting down is a song called 316 (so named as it's the birthdate of his son Wolfgang, off the album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge) - beautiful & calm ditty. Then it goes into a section of Eruption (most of the parts where the tapping technique is involved is from this). The section where he's controlling the volume knob to make he guitar sound like a violin is from a song called Cathedral (off Diver Down).
Yes, this is a self-indulgent showcase of most of what made Eddie great - his guitar pyrotechnics was game changing and genre defining! He may not have created all those techniques, but he sure as hell mastered them! Cheers.

Polo - I've watched a ton of your reactions but I don't think I've seen you totally mesmerized the entire time the music was playing. It's great to see!

Eddie's just messing around for the crowd. He wandered around the house doing this all day. He made coffee and read bedtime stories while playing like this.

Most reactors aka content creators feel like they can't say anything negative about a video. I like the fact that you don't do that and give us your honest opinion.

This was a showcase of his talent, so when you hear him play an actual song you know what he's capable of and when you do hear those songs you'll get a deeper appreciation of the whole band especially his brother Alex on drums.
