    People buy the cheapest dedicated graphics cards when the integrated ones have issues and they don't want to upgrade the mobo or CPU.
    They don't care about gaming, they just want the cheapest solution to keep using their PC.

The sole purpose of this card is to project the image on 1-3 screens. A more powerful card would only consume power, nothing else. So, it is silent and power efficient. Perfect for 90% of the users. I am an IT professional and I have never played a game, but an APU or a CPU with integrated graphics is not powerful enough for me. So yeah, I would combine this with Ryzen 9 3950X.

      @Ben Bla The point he made, was that he doesn't need powerful graphics in his workstation. Integrated graphics usually mean the CPU element of the chip is garbage. Most workstations require a powerful CPU and minimal graphics. So a high-end Ryzen with a budget GPU makes sense in most workstations.
      I'm working right now using a 1080ti and Ryzen 3600, and all the GPU is doing is using excess power for 8 hours.
      A 3900X & GTX710 would be much more powerful for work, and use less power. And cost the same or even less overall.

Newer server boxes are often only 2U size and require a low profile bracket. The passive cooler is critical because you can't risk a dying fan in a high uptime server. I can provide a really easy explanation as to why it's the most sold gpu on amazon, I think your missing the point.
    1. Its the cheapest, and 2. It also offers an additional video port on your machine.
    People like me aren't buying it for performance. I rebuild a few lower end machines and sell them on to be used as work desktop only. In cases like old Dell computers that only offer 1 video display output, the machines become already dated.
    People who work in the IT game also do this, with offices looking for cheaper alternatives to buying brand new computers altogether.
    Not all gpus are built for playing games.

    I literally bought one of these a 5 days ago, even though I have both and RTX 2080 and a Radeon VII.
    The reason? This is one of the best cheap cards to upgrade an older Mac Pro to macOS Mojave. For example the 2010 and 2012 machines are still surprisingly good if you have one on hand, but macOS 10.14 requires a Metal-compatible graphics card to even be installed.
    These GT 710 cards are natively supported without drivers, unlike most Nvidia GPUs that are more recent. They are also much cheaper than the supported AMD options at the very low end, and they accelerate the UI perfectly competently if you’re using the machine as a server for example.

    • @scottgoodson4838
      @scottgoodson4838 4 года назад

      @@doctorsynth1 Let's get the word out! The GT 710 is still supported in Catalina, and of course the older cMPs won't be able to upgrade beyond Mojave regardless, so it's a good solution if only driving a display. A major downside to my particular card is that it is HDMI / DVI / VGA only; there are DisplayPort Converter boxes, but they are not trivial wiring, since DisplayPort is actually a packetized digital interface.
      I also tried a GTX 780 and it worked great to install and use Mojave, even without any kind of BIOS flashing. These are more expensive for sure but eBay probably has some increasingly reasonable prices used. They all have DisplayPort, too.

    • @scottgoodson4838
      @scottgoodson4838 4 года назад

      @niconc Sadly, I don’t believe the boot screen does appear on the monitor connected to the GT 710. My understanding is that this is only possible if the firmware of these cards is flashed to a special variant, which is quite likely possible for any of the card models that Apple has shipped before, though I found some difficulty locating the ROM file for my older 7850 and 7950s (which I believe are among the ones that do have the reflash possibility to get the boot screen).
      One important additional bit of advice: I recently learned that there are a range of inexpensively available Quadro cards that are still supported. K4200 is one of the newest variants, is single slot if you like that form factor, or K5200 if you want a beefier card that is dual slot (may need a simple PCIe power adapter).
      There’s one very good reason to consider the Quadro cards: they have displayport outputs, which is missing from the 710. I found it fairly limiting to use HDMI.

    While nearly impossible that it's the reason for the "top selling" list - old system restoration is also a good reason for these, since there are official WinXP drivers for it ( Radeon 5450 is in a similar boat of cheap cards from the video transition, that you can buy new) - basically allowing an ancient system to work with modern displays, as well as capture devices, and have better performance than similarly easily supported (and cheap) hardware.
    Is it a good choice for general use? hell no. But I'm glad they're still being produced for restoration and archival purposes. Too bad HDMI out doesn't extend back to Win98 supported hardware afaik - so going back that far you need converters (which can be hit or miss)

      In my country a brand new Radeon 5450 is already gone from the market. The cheapest card from Radeon is R5 230 and GT 710 could cost 2 or 3 dollars cheaper than the R5.

    I turn to these cards for rack servers if I want HDMI or DVI output. Fanless (some don't have room for the fan but plenty of airflow) and the lowprofile means they fit in most 1 and 2u servers that won't allow a full width card.

    The gt710 is so popular as a display driver there is an official 2019 revision from Nvidia with 4 hdmi ports totally dropping analog display support. FYI the dvi port is dual link meaning if you have a matching pair of monitors with dvi ports you could drive 4 monitors and thats why the 2019 revision actually has 4 hdmi ports.

      lol, I got the smaller sibling 14watt ATi9250AGP for a server here for the same reason, low watt, passive cooled, it was in a spare parts bin FREE, and no-slot-hogging for the rest of the cards in the server. It's been running 24/7 since 2008. Between the GT710 to GT1030, there is just no reason to downgrade the server (or increase wasteful demand on the UPS), lol.

    • @Zarcondeegrissom
      @Zarcondeegrissom 4 года назад +2

      Mike Morris, agreed, however, I assume that if you're using an old ATi AGP card, your apps don't even use DirectX, lol. There was the 4GB GK208 a few years back that would do some of that, not well, but it wouldn't tell you to go pound sand unlike the 710 or 1030 that doesn't even have 4GB, lol.
      As soon as you toss in a requirement of "less than 55 watts" or "low profile" or "no-fan", modern options really are lacking at best, especially if it's a combination of those requirements.

    When they say "best selling" it isn't that it has the most sales, It's the best rated out of the most sold. So there are other graphics cards that has way more sold but ppl didn't bother to rate it or they gave it a lower rating. Amazon doesn't have a most sold list, which I think they should!
    EDIT: This listing also has 5 options so they're including all those options in the rating for the "best selling" list. If they all have good ratings that's obviously going to have more sales then a newer graphics card that cost $1,100 that has only 2 options. The GT 710 came out Jan/29/2016 while the RTX 2080TI came out Sept/27/2018. 2years and 8months difference with this video only a year after RTX 2080ti, which costs $1040 more then the GT 710... of course it's going to have better sales even if the ratings didn't count. Not to mention that business's will buy these for extra monitor ports, lol.
