      @@briananeuraysem3321 40 years ago there were no actual separate graphics cards for home computers and the Commodore 64 was the peak of technology. It would be arguably the most powerful one in the very early 00's seeing as it can play the vast majority of those games at pretty much full settings at 1080p without breaking a sweat and even many Xbox 360 and PS3 era games at pretty high settings.

    I live in South America where tech is usually rarer and more expensive than in the US or other parts of the world. Back in 2013 i was gifted my first PC with a GT 610 and I literally played everything with it along with a really old Athlon. Nowadays I have a 2060S and although the GT610 is really outdated I respect it for all the things I did with it

    Is also worth noting that the 710 has hardware compressed video encoding/decoding. This will give much smoother playback for internet videos and such, especially if there's any kind of overlay such as subtitles.
    It's will also speed up video encoding if you still like to burn DVDs, or indeed, if you have a DVD collection you'd like to rip to your hard disk into a format using more economic compression.

      You probably won't see a big difference in internet videos because the browser consumes too much CPU regardless. But the GPUs can play 2 high bitrate movies with CABAC simultaneously in Media Player Classic Homecinema. It works on a Pentium 4 in WinXP with overlay mixer. The quality of NVENC is terrible for ripping at typical bitrates.

    Nice to see a performance improvement, although less than expected from 4x cuda cores. Might be intereting to see if the memory controller gets maxed out with DDR3 memory, especially on classic games without color shading. It's not a card for gaming, but to get a picture out, and to upgrade old computers with failed or integrated graphics. Today user interfaces often require 3D ability to display spectrum analyzers or office card games and such. Fermi and Kepler have a very capable accelerated H.264 and MPEG-2 video decoder for high bitrate movies, that would max out the CPU and fan speed.
    On Ebay video adapters are going for crazy money: people want to make a buck, and won't bother to package an item that costs 20 euros. They would rather throw it out. Where are all the mountains of old obsolete video adapters? No, they want to make a buck on retro gamers too. Instead of Ebay, look for a local trading board without shipping or VAT charge.
    It's no sense buying 710 new today, when you can buy a GT 750 on used market. The models with 2 fans run on so little watts on idle, that they are suitable for a quiet PC even with a fan. And you can game in summer.

  • @craigmurray4746
    @craigmurray4746 2 года назад

    I work in a school where I have purchased all of these cards over the years. They are more definitely not gaming cards for sure, but in 2022 you should under no circumstances be buying a 210 - not only is it seriously old, it doesn't support UEFI boot. Some 610 cards had a revision 2 just in time for Windows 8 and so could support UEFI and Secure Boot. The 710 natively supports UEFI boot. It also has a slightly better video decode engine, so makes for a useful display adapter for extra monitors, though you will be limited to using 2 out of the 3 connectors available as it only supports 2 displays at once. Realistically if you are diving to the bottom of the barrel, a GT1030 makes more sense in 2022. It supports H.265 decode and way more modern DirectX version, even if you only make use of it as a display adapter.
