Thank you! I am watching many of your videos as I prepare to wallpaper in my kitchen. It’s been twenty years since I last did it so I need more than a refresher . Thank you for these labors of love you share with us❤
Spencer. I continue to watch your videos over and over again in order to gain enough confidence and knowledge before hanging wallpaper in my own home. You are a magnificent artist and teacher. You are a very talented human being. In Gratitude-Regards-Bob G. San Diego California.
Found your channel due to white seams on dark paper. Thanks so much for the water colour pencil tip. I've continued to watch your videos because you have a wealth of knowledge that I need.
Thanks for the important info. I’ve done taping and wall finishing for over 20 years and I’m trying my hand at hanging some paper tommorow. Been watching a bunch of your videos. Thanks so much for the tips on professionally hanging paper! You my friend are very good at what you do. O look forward to learning more of your great work!
Hej from Sweden! It's been over 10 years since I did any wallpapering, so thought I might need some reminders of how to do it properly. I've enjoyed your videos -- old reminders and new tips. "Tack! Tack!" (Thanks!)
Very helpful. I’ve been watching your videos for the past few days because I am planning to put up wallpaper over old wallpaper and your videos have been very helpful. Thank you.
Thanks for all the fabulous tutorials! I haven't hung wallpaper, but I want to learn how so I can wallpaper my own walls. I'm learning so much from you!
What did this paper call for? Paste the wall or pasted the paper and book? I hung some stuff from york with a navy blue background. Was a little finicky
you have a thumbs up from me anyway lol Your corners.. do you take it around by 1/4" and then re hand/plumbing the off cut like I do? Was all that done onn the same day or is that two days work and the corner was done the day before?
I agree about providing the solution. It is the teacher’s or presenter’s job to complete the presentation, not the student’s or viewer’s job to figure it out. Many of us are rookies after all.
The problem is not the width of the paper coming out of the corner it is that you do not know how to cut into a corner so the white edge of the paper does not show. Well? .
What you are saying makes total sense. My question to you Spencer, is, what do you propose to do about this problem? I love your videos by the way. I have learnt so much from you, thankyou.
I have spent the last 13 years looking at wallpaper seams that slightly overlap. Added to the ugliness of the seam not butted properly, someone painted over the wallpaper. It is an ugly mess. Now that I am retired it became impossible to ignore. I spent three days trying to remove wallpaper using the tool that makes circular scoring on the wallpaper and then wetting it down. I am 78 years of age and it has not been fun. I am going to use some of your technique to help me finish the job. By the way do I paint directly on the drywall or do I spread joint compound over the drywall before painting. Thank you for the information you shared.
Interesting point, I haven’t thought of it that way. My rule of thumb is to always have a seam at least 5” from an outside or inside corner. I’ve noticed problems if less than that for sure. Did you fix this with a watercolor pencil? I appreciate that tip- my installs have gotten better since using watercolor pencils. But don’t trust a helper with those! They can make a problem worse by getting the watercolor all over the paper instead of just on the gap. My fault for walking away with a phone call..
I Am becoming a professional wallpaper hanger after about 10 installs and I think (with approval of the client) you could have done a plumb line to the right and finish the corner with an imperfect match on some parts of the corner. The way you did it is the easy way and fast way. But it turns out that easy and fast is not always the best way..Thanks for the videos, they are very helpfull and informative.
Saying hello from Iowa! Love your work! I just hung a textured faux grass cloth in my bathroom. I have a few small bubbles here and there that are giving me a really hard time. I have lifted up the seam, and pushed the air out. Its gone, but then its back! Now, I must tell u that the walls are old bathroom panel walls, similiar to what you would see in a mobile home. Please help! It is driving me nuts seeing the bubbles everyday! Thanking you in advance for your advice 😊 Andrea
I found you this morning and I’m inspired now to use wallpaper I’ve had for 15 years. This is my second video and I’m worried because I couldn’t see it (the problem). Am I hopeless? How did you fix it?
Was there a way to anticipate this happening and avoid it? Or does this just happen sometimes and you have no choice but to remove and reinstall? I'm about to do a room with many inside corners and i hadn't even thought about this and now I'm nervous 😬 Thank you!
Should not happen to a veteran; it was my mistake… You can avoid this by simply doing a better job than I did, by using your smoother, to make sure that the paste is just enough underneath the wall covering, and not excessive like was my case
Your video doesn’t indicate if there is anyway to fix the seams without repapering the wall. Also what should you do when wallpapering a corner - should you cut the paper at the corner and start the adjacent wallpaper with the portion you cut off the wallpaper? Thank you!
9” is a good amount to end up with when wrapping a corner, and walls and corners are never perfect. It could happen to anyone. How were you to know a stress point was there? What I need to know is how you fixed it. I guess you had to redo that wall, maybe starting by overlapping the sheet on the adjacent wall and cutting a new seam then removing the extra paper beneath the new join. As you turn the corner, that solution could give you more paper width for gripping the offending wall. But I still don’t know how we’re supposed to avoid such an accident ourselves, and as a newbie, I’m not even sure my idea is the best way to rectify such a separation.
Corners are worse now in new builds vs the old homes. I’ll double cut that, or if it’s really bad cut in the corner and get back on track. I did one 4 months ago, half bath 10ft ceiling top of the wall behind sink was 3’1/32”, bottom of the wall was 27 1/8”. My seam behind the sink was on a vicious angle, BUT once I rounded the corner, it went back to almost plumb and only out 1/8”. It all looks straight, but I know it’s way out.
When working through pesky corners (ones with divets, humps, drywall slag, extra cuts to relieve stress, out of plumb, caulk at the bottom, etc.) I like to lightly fill with extreme tack, let it dry about 80%- 90% then hit it again with extreme tack and apply the paper. That way, it's got the extra "incentive" to stay put, and my natural "pull" of the wallpaper would "ideally" come from adjacent areas where the tack isn't as strong. Thus, a more natural equilibrium should occur like the rest of the walls. At least, that's my theory. I'm not an expert, nor have thousands of installs under my belt. I'm just trying to apply logic & reason. Hope this helps. 0:41
Your suggestion is brilliant, and by the way, about three or four years ago, I did a video on using extreme tech under conditions where I suspected the wallpaper would move and I should have known better and I thank you for reminding me about extreme tech
May the most holy, most sacred, most adorable, most incomprehensible, and ineffable Name of God be forever praised, blessed, adored, loved, and glorified, in heaven, on earth, and in the hells, by all the creatures of God, and by the Sacred Heart of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar.
@papeldecolgadura_instalacion santa marta Colombia. Watching while I get ready to do a wallpapered accent wall in my dining room. Your advice makes me feel way more confident! Thank you!
I'ms so glad I found your videos. Fist time wallpaper hanger with the real stuff. I have done a ton of peel and stick.
So to prevent this, would you start a whole sheet on the corner instead of a narrow/cut sheet?

You and Phil should do an episode each where you try to impersonate one another, mannerisms, accent, techniques. Hey, throw in wigs and costumes too 🙂
