My grandma went to the salon each week to have her hair washed and set. She never washed her hair herself. She had a standing weekly appointment. Nothing kept her from that appointment.
T K Wow
My Mom did to.
My grandmother and mother did, too.
My grandmother did the same. Went to the salon twice a week to have a wash and blow dry.
My mom had lice
This was 70 years ago ...omg
👀
Omg 😱 didn’t think of it like that .. so long ago
Right
excuse you?????
That little boy is in his 80s! What a mind bend!
Them: 2 hours a *week* in a beuty salon
Me: 2 hours a *year* in a beauty salon
You are not alone lol
Me: Has never been in a beauty salon
I go once a month.
They didnt have to work because at that time it was possible to live with one pay check. So yeah they had more time than we do now
Accurate lolol
"A woman's hands are as important to her as her face."
*Looks down at my dry raggedy ass hands and nails*
If you have peeling skin around your nail, dip a Q-tip in oil, and massage it around your nail 💞💓💕
Lol ..true story though ..lol. sanitizer be killing us gals !!!
{{{gnaws hangnail, nods.}}}
A bit of moisturizer can help those hands daily, especially at night.
thr hands are often what reveals the true age of white women, cause they rarely care well for their hands. asian ladies on the other hand tend to wash their rice, and that makes for soft healthy skin
Doing hair in a suit
Haha so proper
Now a days ppl be wearing jeans and polo shirts and they call that eleGant 😭
eating is gr8 girl bye. It doesn’t matter what you wear to do hair. All that matters is the final outcome.
@@ilovebritneybitch6979 It should matter. Clothing has become extremely casual these days. Btw, I am not old but gen Z. If everyone went back to being elegant in their clothing and not sloppy and lazy, there would be a lot more respect.
Such a power move lol
She looks like she was randomly cutting hair LMFAO
It doesn't matter actually because they almost all used to perm/heat roller their hair😅
I went to beauty school in the 70s. That’s how we cut hair then. Not random … there is a guide she cut in first. The guide falls away and your fingers is where you cut.
Today this would be considered “unintentional ASMR.”
No cap, that’s exactly why I’m here.
Sooooo soothing
Paul T love it. ❤️❤️
I clicked on this video because I just knew the narration would be unintentionally relaxing
*I have no regerts! (regrets)*
"who's more appreciative of beautiful women..THAN A MANNN?!"
Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah right 😂😂😂😂
the question is what would they have said if a woman wanted to be a barber lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I love these crazy videos
Why?
honestly, lesbians appreciate women so much more than a straight man even could.
I’ve never eye rolled so hard in my life. Hahaha
My mother grew up in the 50s and I swear the hair salon guys and gals even at the nail Salon LOVE HER. In her 70s and in her little wheel chair she still gets her hair shampooed and set or styled every Friday. Every 3 weeks her nails are done even if they are short she gets them done with the dip powder whether she goes anywhere or not. Even with the Coronavirus stuck at home she begs me to take her. I tell her what's the point because no one will see her and she can't go to church right now and she responds with, "Ruth, don't be crazy, you never know who might come to visit me". I'm in my 30s and my husband in his 40s and he says, "just take her, it makes her happy and in her day women were always well dressed, hair done, full on makeup, and nails done". I am 37 and I always wear a blouse and flat shoes when going to the cinema or a restaurant and full on makeup. I never realized that most Millennials don't do that until someone pointed it out. I realized I do this because my parents grew up in the 1940s and 1950s. I never thought it strange that living in the South with 100 degree weather I was still wearing a proper ladies blouse with black slacks or knit pants and would dress up just to go to the grocery store. I have noticed that when little kids see me they are always respectful and move out of my way while shopping and if they need help reaching something they will ask me and not other people. I used to wonder that it was because I had a friendly face and am very short, so close to their level, but an older once told me it's because of the way I'm dressed they think I'm safe and approachable because little kids notice stuff like that. Anytime we are at the zoo and a child is lost they walk right up to my husband and I crying with their little hands outstretched wanting us to pick them up. Even at the zoo, no joke, on a rented electric wheel chair in Dallas, TX my mother has her full on makeup, hair done, nails, and wears a fur coat in November while we are at the zoo.😎 she dresses up to see the animals and makes my husband wear nice dress up shoes that he wears after we leave the zoo so that he looks "Appropriate" when we leave the zoo to go to a restaurant. No joke!! My husband is from Morocco and has had to learn to slightly dress up when he takes mom out because she wants him to dress like a "man" of his "age" and swears up and down people will take him more seriously. To be honest, I think she might be right. People do judge you without realizing it based on your outer appearance.
50s women: beautiful af even though they had almost no proper beauty products
me: having all the technological and beauty care opportunities and dying of ugliness
melt u don’t say that about yourself I’m sure you’re very pretty
I'm sure there were ugly mingers then too...
Joke
This was interesting, but the narrative is so silly. I guess those were the times.
I hope you know you are lovely and we all have good and bad days.
I feel there may be a great underestimate the tools and tricks 50's women have, as well as who you really are. It's one thing how others perceive you, it's another to comparing oneself to an ever changing standard subjectively. Personal opinion: don't judge one by their appearance, but by their action. If you can improve, even just the slightest change, that's a step closer to a better version of you. And now is the earliest opportunity.
I wanna see Brad Mondo React to this
Leave Brad out of this. I love Brad, but these were different times. These old techniques paved the way for new ones.
The fact tht the man is wearing a suite while cutting the girl's hair is impressive
Hard to believe that, as of 2021, this was over 60 years ago. Time moves incredibly fast.
I see 1950's I click
love the tea sis ♥️
Me too love that era🖒
My grandma used to go to the salon every two weeks to get her hair washed and styled and get her nails done... she told me that she loved going their because everyone was super nice ❤️🥰✨
“ the beautification of women kind” lmao
I came here to say this
Everyone now: thick brows, makeup on brows.
Me who loves pencil brows: WOW! Look at that beauticians brow game going on!!
Thought the same
I like watching how women from other cultures or races get their hair done... Since mine is more coiled so to speak because I am of African descent, it's really not that different! 🌹 Thanks for the upload 💕
Same here it relaxes me
i feel this in my heart!!!
@@Hunlover123601 🧡💛💚💙💗💋💜
They took such pride in how they looked.... What a great era....
Go away corona virus! We miss going to the salon 😩
“Who is more appreciative of beautiful women than a man?” Lesbians: 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏽♀️🙋🏾♀️🙋🏿♀️
This!
Hahaha right? I find men look at only 2 assets where women actually admire
at the whole masterpiece!
Especially when this men are gay ha
We weren’t acknowledged back then
women in general: 🙋🙋🙋🙋🙋
😭😭😭I miss my hairdresser soooo much😭😭😭😭 It won’t be until June, minimum, now b4 I see her.... What I wouldn’t give for a day at the spa like these ladies are getting😍
That guy doing the hair styling was rather spiffing, I do like an unusual looking but handsome man, and that zoot suit!
Not to stereotype, but I laughed at “who more to appreciate a woman’s beauty but a man” because my guess is that several of those male beauticians weren’t into the women.
I literally said “a gay man” 😂😂😂
Who else noticed the lady wiping her face so rough with a paper towel “shake my head”🤦🏾♀️
My lil esthetician heart hurts watching this watching her drag tissues across her face to remove product omg.
Same 😫
Still happens at a lot of places in India lol
I thought the same 😂
0:26. Little Timmy dreams of one day becoming a women's beautician. No time for afterschool sports, you'll find him in mommy's closet coordinating outfits with accessories. His future wife will be mighty lucky. 😏
Why would you assume hes straight, BRUH.

I remember being a cosmetologist back in the 70's at a shampoo/perm/set shop. Those little old ladies LOOOOOVED their dippity doo 😂
Some of those places in my area went unisex.. I went to one ( but no rollers or perms! ) Although they did shampoo me .. still the same on the inside.. old school grandma beauty shop decor and equipment.. it was rather awkward for me being a 20 yr old college guy surrounded by geriatric ladies in rollers and rods .. even the women shampooing and cutting my hair were older than my grandmother.. but I must say they did a better job than the barber.. and cheaper .
I used to use Dippity Doo on my horses mane to tame it for braiding in horse shows...hahahaha
What CAN'T dippity doo do? 😂@@Scampergirl
Ugh I just love this time and this channel it’s so classy and feminine etc I love it keep posting💕
The lady in the picture at 2:28 looks exactly like my great grandma during that time. She always went to the salon to get her hair done every week up until she passed 3 years ago
Damn they are all so fancy and classy 🥺🧐
Just curious if there was one man who narrated every single 1950s video, because they all sound like the same voice to me 😊 Thanks for the video!
Let’s you know how down hill America has gone. A lot of people can’t afford going to the salon two hours a week.
Well I don't think this video talks about the average woman. Even back then, I think only privileged housewives could afford two hours in the salon every week.
Emiline Bellé or even every 6 months. It’s way too expensive now.
I dont even want to be in one every week. If its not. Massage then its tedious lol
Yeah, this wasn't talking about the "normal household". This was talking about women who actually had money, granted it was their husband's money, but all the same.
They had their hair styled twice a week and slept with it covered. My 85 year old neighbor still goes twice a week. We just don't wear our hair like that lol
I remember the days when I wore a white uniform in the salon. I got so much color rinses on me that I wore a black smock over my uniform
I was a beautician in the early 60s. We wore white uniforms and white shoes. The uniforms got stained from the blue rinse . We were trained in all fields back then and did manicures, pedicures and facials. I hated tweezing eyebrows the most.
Speaking of white uniforms and shoes..In college I had tried a unisex salon for the first time.. I think the place was a chain beauty shops for the grandmas to get their weekly wash and sets that decided to go unisex .. it still looked that way inside looking at the decor and equipment very 70s anyways .. there were several older women working there And a few were in the old school uniforms of white pink or light blue with the white shoes. I remember one gave me a shampoo first then another one cut my hair. Different experience from a barber shop I never had a beautician cut my hair but she did an excellent job.
I watch this and think, oh my god 2 hours a week....I can’t even afford a visit once a month lol and that’s just to get like a hair cut not talking about facials or manicures lol I’ve never had a facial
haha I love the ridiculous "who can be more appreciate of beautiful women than a man?" Wishing I could spend 2 hours a week getitng my hair professionally done! Maybe one day ;)
I don't see why that statement is ridiculous, honestly. I guess women are getting jaded, which is sad.
And I like getting in and out of the salon as quickly as possible! 😊 Then again, if you logged all the hours of grooming I do at home....!
Also “women kind”.
I wish I could get a facial like that! And no high pressure selling while I'm trying to relax!
My Mother in Law went to the hairdresser every Saturday to get her hair set until she retired in the mid 80s to get her hair set, then every Friday until she went into high level aged care. Now the hairdresser does her hair on Thursdays at the Aged Care facility. MIL is 90.
Loretta Tay!or as an Esthetician, I can never imagine making that the goal of a relaxing facial 😕 The only time I bring up products is when I’m asked about skincare and recommendations 🙂 I hope you find an Esthetician that will offer you an experience that consists of luxury with true relaxation
I love these! I wish they had some black salons!, I would love to see the hair styles back then
Seriously though because black people have to do a lot to their hair. Its interesting and I envy the range of styles but there's WORK to get them.
Ohhh i love those videos!
That boy could be on his 80th right now.
that was gold ♥♥
Real class and i still love a male hairdresser cutting my hair i like the time they spend on your hair not rushed i love this video !!😍❤
There are good men stylists and bad ones just like there are good & bad women stylists. And not all of the males are gay.
Back when I was in my early 20s & couldn't afford a decent stylist, I ran into a Fantastic Sam's to get my hair trimmed. The male stylist kept "accidentally" rubbing himself against me. I was so grossed out. I'd move in the seat but it would keep happening.
I was too young and naive and timid to do anything at the time. I knew he was doing it intentionally but figured there was no way to prove it.
I wish I had the confidence I have now that I'm older. I would have gotten out of that chair immediately and reported him to his manager and maybe even the police. It may not have come to anything as it would just be a case of he said/she said, but at the very least I would have stood up to him. I probably wasn't the first person he'd done that too nor the last.
Chances of the male hair beautician of being Gay is 8 out of 10. Carefully look at the fare of his hands as he works her hair. Plus, This time in America is where Blacks are banned from white businesses
“Beauty Operator” 😊
Yeah my long time hairdresser is a gay man. He's the only person who doesn't mess up my hair on purpose! I have had so many women not do what I want and actually leave me uneven or looking bad. They always act all jealous of my hair.
@@riggs20 I hope someone reported his ass
I love the 1950s
Ah yes I love discrimination, racism, and sexism
Love your chanel!!! I’m a huge 50’s/atomic era buff and your content brings me so much joy. I have always wondered about the cute “That’s All” at the end of the videos - is it from a particular movie? So curious! 😍
That was a time travelling , nice ! Thank you 👍
i really really love beauty salons...is one of my favourite places to be!!!!LOL💅💄✂
Very nice narrative, thank you for posting.
Wow that female beautician performing the facial looks just like my 4th grade teacher - that’s incredible
Beauticians and beauty operators. Back then the profession was more appreciated and respected 💇
"Who is more appreciative of the beauty of a woman, than a man?" *laughs in gay*
Everytime i watch these kind of videos i always imagine what if someone to go back in time with today's trend, hairstyle, colourful nail polish, bushy brows, eyeshadows etc etc
They would probably think she was a lady of the night
If you listen to enough of this channels content you will know that red nail polish and red lipstick were majorly frowned upon I mean don’t get me wrong you could pull off red if you had a coloring for it but if you’re pale you’re screwed
I know because I was raised with my grandmother if I ever tried to wear red outside the house she’d kill me even as I got older and didn’t live with her anymore it would’ve been my head on a pike if I had attempted to wear that
These videos won't ever be complete without the narration!
As a beauty therapist myself, this is so interesting to watch!! OMG
Why did they make narrative videos of nearly all daily activities in the 50s? We need to bring this back.
Loved this. Didn't realize the use of banana clips was that old!
Yes, please ♥️
I find this so relaxing ❤
Omygod this is hilarious! Thank you! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Who would know that we are able to see this after 60 yrs.awsome
Old is always gold
I don’t care what they say, I would love to have lived in the 50s!
I take it you’re not black 😂
Dorohedoro Noi too bad I’m black
I would certainly love to go back in time and visit, that’s for sure!!
A trip back in time
Love how even back then they used "esti fingers "
"Who is more appreciative of a woman's beauty than a man?" Me:*spits out my tea in a fit of bisexual laughter*
My brained screamed " lesbians". Lol.
I choked on my coffee I tell ya what!!
Funny
You imagine just ignoring gay beauticians like that lol

I didn't realize Annette Funicello was a manicurist! 🤣🤣🤣

Love the male hairdresser in a 3 piece suit!
Love this video
oh, i loved this 🥰

great video
I heard this voice almost allllll my life as a narrator.
I would love to see how they did there pedi or manicure I have been looking for videos even the 70s or 80s would work.
Manicures are still pretty much the same as they were then. Pedicures were mainly a spa treatment reserved for special occasions till they hit the mainstream in the late eighties. I've been in the business since 1978.
@@debradowling800 thank you
It looked like she was thinning it out and making it wispy. I'm a hairdresser and I used to watch my mother give haircuts like this! It always look nice, not choppy
I can’t believe my now grandma was just a newborn baby in the year 1950. 😳😍
Achha lga dekh ke🥰🥰
The way she cut the hair SCARED ME😱😳😬
"Because clearly all of the men working in salons are straight." Oh honey....
“Who is more appreciative of beautiful women that a man?” ME THATS WHO
Thank you for uploading sweetheart
The guys are just there to get the tea. They don’t care how they look.
2:02 her highlights in her fringe though 👌🏾
Muito bom!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
1940s fashion and hair was the best IMO
So nostalgia...😍
2hrs a week?!
I am way behind.
That stylist was just hacking away at that poor woman's hair
LOL 😂 ion what this lady cutting my hair that didn’t look right LOL 😂
At that time going beauty parlour was a matter of luxury !!!!!
Omg, 2 hours A WEEK!? Jayzeus! Love the historical videos though
“More men have chosen to be women hair dressers cause who knows what a woman’s beauty better then a man” (Me in my head) “You know damn well he’s gay” 😂😂
😆
Hah! Two hours a week?! I get maybe that much every 6 months if I am lucky!
those were the days people worked from 8 to 6 pm and took naps in between. it was pretty normal to go get hair done saturdays between 9 am and 11. my mother was typist working full time from 8 to 5 and still got her hair done saturdays. I was born in 1943.
The simplicity of life!!
Black salons are different than this we didn’t have to go to a beauty salon the beauty salon was our mother with the hot comb to our ear lmao
De-balding us🤣
Imagine having the free time every week to get your hair done, nails polished and a facial 🤣🤣🤣🤣
"who appreciates womens beauty more than a man?"
answer: lesbians
I don’t know that it’s more. Probably equal to.
The good old days
Those were the days
The cut was called The Slither.....when done properly creates a feathered style, I was trained old school in the 70's
Adoro esses vídeos antigos, bjs do Brasil 🥰💋
I love how men are always the narrator 🤣
