Thank you for posting this! I opened Backdraft as a USH Tour Guide. It ran continuously and I personally did up to 10 shows a day there. At that time there was no fire shield around the Ops panel in the main room and it got HOT over there! It took a long time to get the sensors adjusted properly in the early days of testing and soft openings so we were constantly getting faults and having to do a full building evacuation several times a day. Ultimately it was a huge favorite with the guests. SO many great memories to look back on!
You could actually feel a LOT of heat during this exhibition ride. It reminded me of the West Edmonton Mall Dragon in regards to the amount of heat that the show would actually let the viewers experience. It was an awesome showcase into how "REAL" movie effects could make for an awesome movie in comparison to today's CGI.
This attraction is what inspired me to become a firefighter when I was 5 back in 2002. Just noticed it closed after my birthday (4/10). Thanks for sharing :')
12:17 As of right now, Backdraft in Universal Studios Japan is permanently closed because of budget cuts and the attendance was low after the reopening due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It was probably really expensive to run this attraction, but it’d be amazing if they brought this back and I’m sure it would still hold up with all the other attractions and shows.
It's a shame that Universal Studios has gotten rid of nearly all their "special effects stage" attractions: Backdraft, Ghostbusters, Twister, that one in Singapore with the hurricane in NYC, Terminator, Alfred Hitchcock.... I really miss the old "go behind the scenes" feel of these parks, that really tried to hammer in the illusion that you were on a live set or in a production building in Hollywood, and the "Fake" part turns all too real. If I had a time machine, I'd go back to visit these parks as they were back in the early 1990s.
This...going to Universal Studio wasn't about rollercoaster and 3D rides, it was about getting to see how movies are filmed and how special effects works.
@@rich.infinite.soundsa lot of theme parks nowadays have gotten lazy with their attractions, they overuse 3D screens cause its so much cheaper than making practical sets
Backdraft and Twister including Earthquake were great special effects attractions at Universal Studios, it looks so realistic just like how they did in the movies. Disaster movies always rely on special effects and the realism
This show scared the hell out of me, I specifically remember leaving the building with my dad before anybody else left... the one at California was extremely realistic, it looked like the pit of hell opened up in front of the audience (then again it could be the exaggeration of my children experience)
Thank you for providing this awesome piece of history to be forever enjoyed as a memory of a unique attraction! Universal in florida had twister but was also removed, If only i had the oppertunity to see it in person before its closing.
I remember being six years old, and when they did the fire demonstration The room heated up to what felt like 200° Crazy experience as a child that teaches you how intense Real fire is
I wish I would've gotten to go to this attraction. I love being a volunteer firefighter and I love this movie, so definitely sad that this isn't there anymore. They should bring it back
They've dumped a lot of stuff in the intervening years: the Back To The Future ride became the Simpsons, the Miami Vice stunt show is now Waterworld, and this was eliminated.
Glad you guys have such a nice archive of this attraction. I archived it as well when the show was finally set to close, but I'm so happy other people have the same idea. You should upload a full show of the Special Effects Stages next if you have it. Or even Cinemagic, which would be incredibly awesome.
Did this during my first trip to Universal Hollywood. When I went back for my second trip I was wearing a Backdraft T-shirt that even I mistook for a real Chicago Fire Department duty T-shirt only to discover it was gone.
I miss this attraction so much. When I first visited universal it was all about fire effects… from the studio tour to the backdraft sound stage. Now everything is about 3D effects
Went to this when I was 5 with my Dad, I remember being terrified. But it was extremely awesome and a great memory to have. Sad to see it is now closed, as it would of been nice to visit as an adult.
I wish I could have enjoyed this as a kid. I remember being 8 yrs old and walking into this attraction not having a clue but my parents guiding me and it started. I remember this ride like it was yesterday. I remember it was fkn hot and I didn't like it. For the first time, I was scared and my mom tried to calm me I remember my dad just talking it down, it's ok son this isn't real lol😅. Like ok it feels very feel and I was this far so just suck it up. Next time I was a lil older and my older cousins wanted to go in but unfortunately I bitched out and I was a target for rest of my life. I wish this was still around so that I could face it as a grown man but now this is all just memories. Like the old King Kong. Now 36 and I'm reminiscing to my 10 yr about how I bitched out at her age.
I remember seeing this back in the day, sadly traumatized me as, the year before , parents left the stove on, luckily the house didn't burn down, nor did we lose anything
That’s on my bucket list I’m definitely going to Universal Studios Japan to see Jaws as well I hated they all the realistic practical effects type rides and replacing them with boring unrealistic screen rides at Universal Studios Florida 😔
I have a cousin who's works as a CAL firefire and I think he would love this attraction God bless the first responders all over the world and the armed forces protecting the world from evil🙏❤
I remember my mom taking me to Universal Hollywood when I was 6 years old. We saw this and I totally freaked out cause I thought the fire was going to consume the entire room. That's how you know the effects were good.
It was a sad day when they removed the Tour Guides from hosting this attraction in favor of pre-recorded VoiceOver and cheaper ride operators. Who just have to press the start button.
I remember this and I remember going to jurassic park ride getting wet then going threw back draft tour and it was hot enough to dry up to go on jurassic park ride again lol good old days
I remember seeing this as a little kid. I thought it was real and I was freaking out because I thought we were trapped. It would be so interesting to see this as an adult.
Oh man I miss this.. I got used to the attraction I just leaned at the front banister watching everyone get scared there was a weird airpocket that you would be in if you ever where in the front. Just look how far the people were fire is scary but it was fine.

I feel very old now, thank you
i think people wanted more rides

Not possible today. Way too many heat sensitive people

Kinda like how movies are all cheapend out now with all the fake CGI crap

I wish they would keep these type of rides and attractions

chris arevalo what a bitch lol it wasn’t that scary
Its because it was based on a r rated movie.
RIP Backdraft.
I was going say the same thing.
Backdraft, BTTF, and Original JP I will always remember fondly
I noticed that the props from Transformers the Ride 3-D reused alot of the prop in this attraction such as the catwalk, the fuel tanks, and Pipes
I was getting whipped around so much and trying not to puke on Transformers so I didn’t notice.
I miss this attraction so most, one of the reasons why I liked Universal Studios back then :(
No need to be sad, Backdraft is now available in Universal Japan, just waif because they are operating it.

Don’t forget Jurassic Park became Jurassic World and ET Adventure turned into Revenge of the Mummy
The best show ever

I like how you enter in and you hear Bruce Hornsby's "The Show Goes On".

Backdraft at Universal Studios Hollywood (1992 - 2010) replased of Transformers: The Ride 3D on Stage 30 is open 2012 at Universal Studios Hollywood.
I love how the queue music was Bruce Hornsby’s “The Show Goes On” from the soundtrack ❤️

You might be terrified, Spoiler alert for the movie, bad guys caused the fire in the movie.

I still remember the smell in there. Luckily you can still get a similar one in Earthquake on the studio tour. Miss this and Twister every day.
Please bring this back. We need more exposure to firefighting in cinema and tv!!

Universal Studio Japan has decided to close Backdraft permanently😢
Id love to be able to find a backdraft video where someone ISNT overly excited. Their audible excitement distracts from the show.
Of course, if they made Backdraft now it would be all CGI.
