    This works great on the pi 3 , used for years, but I had hdmi issues on the pi 4 when using SSD through usb port, (I have had two pi 4 die with hdmi issues from experimenting with this software) this very much beta and at users risk, this software can damage your raspberry pi, I will wait for a full release of this software until I try it again.
    I am still using berryboot on my older raspberry pi, it's fantastic, but my replacement pi 4 has stopped in its box, I don't want break another.

    Note...you need to format your SD card to FAT and Master Boot Record (MBR), NOT GUID Partition Map. I tried both (using my Mac and only FAT and MBR allowed RPI4 8GB to boot up. Your welcome :)

    I've been testing Bootberry & PINN. Both install to an external USB drive. Bootberry will boot to a usb3 ssd is ridiculously fast. Faster than PINN. Bootberry also allows you to add another one to the same drive later, or delete one. Can't do that with PINN.
    The main problem with Bootberry is the use of squashfs for the image. There aren't a lot available for the Pi 4 😞. I've tried to convert some using instructions I found online without success.
    If you could convert images easily to the squashfs file system Bootberry needs, it woul be an awesome bootloader.

      I followed the *instructions for squashfs* in here: www.berryterminal.com/doku.php/berryboot/adding_custom_distributions for kali linux for RPi4 and it just worked. I wanted to try the same with LibreELEC image but there was no /etc folder, I suppose all the filesystem is created after installing it so I would assume you can first install it normally, then create an image out of it and then follow the instructions. Just be careful, in case you auto-mount newly attached devices (like I had set my Manjaro), the mount command will give you an error for that reason.

    • @EricMagidson
      @EricMagidson 4 года назад

      I have found that you have to do a clean format of the Micro SD card prior to installing BerryBoot. In other words, if you have a Windows machine, use disk and format to delete all existing volumes and partitions and then format the entire thing as Fat 32. Then copy over the files and bang!!! It works.

    Hiya mate. not having much luck formatting either a SSD (Samsung 256) with Sabrent or Generic Connector, or even a USB Stick - Kingston DataTraveller 100G3 32GB to ext4 - always get error at the end - unable to unmount system partition. Both SSD and USB Stick work great for USB Boot on Raspbian. Wonder what else I can try?

    I have a question I was trying to use Berry boot on my Rasberry pi 4 4GB the monitor I am using doesn't have an HDMI port so I'm using a HDMI to DVI-D connector it will not display just black screen. I used Rasbian Full and no issues. Any thought on why this is?

      did ya figure it out? as I am also having that issue thought it is with a ubuntu mate install. other distros work fine, but when I try and use the dvi cable nothing on this monitor other than an error about it. I am assuming it is similar to your issue. I was going to try berryboot tonight but not sure if I will have the same issue with it as well.

      JeanBa I haven’t had an issue so it’s difficult to troubleshoot.
      The Pi can have many reasons to boot, not enough power can be one. I also find unplugging everything but the mains power and HDMI cable can help.

    • @nikiforossarantoglou5917
      @nikiforossarantoglou5917 4 года назад

      @JeanBa For me there was 3MB of unallocated space in my card that caused it to not boot BerryBoot. I had to format the whole disk. If you are under Windows, use program named SD Card Formatter, if you are on linux Gparted or similar (I used KDE partition manager) and make sure the whole disk is formated fat 32. Hope that fixes it.
