You saved my bacon sir! Got a last minute project that had to be done tonight and I couldn’t have completed it without learning this video transfer trick. Thanks!
Idid this just to note I had to go to files, locations, select my USBC stick and then was able to play them all!Thankyou! I now have movies to watch on my plane without taking my laptop with me!
Where did you get your adapter? I just got the iPad Pro 12.9 and did not realize they changed the charging port, so all the adapters I had do not work :/
Great video!I would like to ask you for advice. I have two Hard Disks (formatted in exFat) that I normally use on a PC. I tried to connect them via Hub to the iPad (Air m1), charging, but they turn on without the iPad recognizing them. How could I solve? I also changed the adapter but nothing. I state that until some time ago they were read without the slightest problem.
Nice one I’ve been practicing a 8 hour timelapse video in 4K with a canon R7 and when I tied to transfer them with the card reader it says format not compatible but it’s still a mp4 file ? Will try pulling it straight from the camera see if that works if not any other suggestions? Cheers
I have various movies on my external hd and I want to watch them on my iPad, how do I transfer them from my hd to my iPad? Is that even possible without a computer. Please help.
Wow!!!! Dude I can’t believe you did that!!! Thank you thank you thank you!!! Do you think it is possible to rename folder in the camera and download videos straight from the camera To the iPad Pro ???
You're welcome!! I I don't think you can change the folder names directly from your camera, but the camera can import them to the iPad very easily, even though they might all be named something like DSC_xxxx
Hi, actually I cannot import my videos from the Sony a6300 into my ipad pro. I have to use an anker dongle where I plug an usb-a to micro usb. It reads the photos in the import dialogue from the gallery, but the videos are nowhere. From the file app i can copy the files, but anything above 4,3 GB won’t playback... any idea for a fix? I was thinking to rename the video folders from my sd card used in the sony camera as you did, but I am pretty sure any new video filmed won’t be save there further.
Followed your directions but plugging my HHD into my IPAD did not open PHOTOS automatically. I opened manually, but couldn't see the external. Went to files and I see it, but that won't let me copy them to the IPAD. How is your HHD formatted?
Nice video bro, i dont have a mac or wndows lptop with me,so i can just change the name file and create subfolder on any android device right? After that connect to ipad pro to import
Nothing shows pops up when i connect the external hard drive to the ipad until i go myself to the Files app then i see it there. But my question is, i can't play the videos there like i have to share each video i open into a media player then it plays there but this is annoying. Isn't there a way to make like a default media player for these videos so i can play them immediately from the hard drive on my ipad?
hey buddy i can see my hard desk in my new iPad pro ( in files ) , but its not opening, pictures, videos . is there any app or something to download for it , I'm using apple USB - C to Digital AV ( multiport Adapter) , i want transfer stuff from my external hardest to new iPad pro ? plz help me here

Hi. Can u do the same on an iPad Air 2? I have a WD 1 TB USB external hard drive. Have lots of movies in them which I would like to transfer to my iPad Air 2. Please advice.
I’ve just tried this with my SSD T7 and when I connect my T7 to my iPad Pro the subfolder DCIM100 and it’s contents has disappeared. I reconnected to pc and subfolder also no longer there. I’m running the latest version of Apple software
I bought an SD card reader to plug into my iPad. It only reads photos. How doI get it read video without having to use a laptop first? I just want take the sd card out of my camera and insert it into my extreme pro card reader and have my iPad see and import video. Thanks in advance 😊
Hi. If your SD card is taken from a camera, then the camera structure should already be in place and should appear on the ipad. However, some new camera's have a different structure for Video's now, as oppose to photos & videos together. Previously, all photos/videos used to be processed under DCIM folders in SD cards for cameras. Now, a lot of camera's are putting videos in a different folder to DCIM, such as CLIPS (Much like my Sony A7 III DSLR), and the iPad is not made to recognise anything other than DCIM. This is what I presume is happening with your situation. Hope this helps.
Lol your a god! Love the videos Subscribing One question. I have a video on my iPad Pro BUT I don’t have a apple laptop or a Mac! All I have is windows pc that don’t have USB-C :( Is there a way to transfer my iPad video to a USB :(
Thank you brother! Theres not any way to transfer videos BACK to the USB directly from the iPad, but what you will have to do is upload or share that video you have on your iPad to something like Apple Cloud, Dropbox, Google Drive or something like that using WiFi, and then download from the same account on your laptop. Otherwise you can download another app called "Send Anywhere - File Transfer" on the iPad, and use that to send your video via Wifi to your laptop. Good luck!!
I've followed your steps by the T but having issues 1. when connecting a USB to the ipad pro it does not automatically open photos app 2. when importing mp4 files a red exclamation occurs Would you know why that occurs?
Not too sure why this is happening, perhaps you need to update your iOS to the latest version or your USB might need a format due to some corrupt structure? Other than, its difficult for me to presume why this is happening unfortunately William.
Ive followed all the steps and its still not showing any photos to import? Is there anything I’m doing wrong? I’m running IOS 14.4? Does anyone know if its been patched? Thanks
With this method, it won't work. For documents, what I suggest is you transfer them to a cloud account such as Google Drive or Dropbox, then open them in the corresponding apps on the iPad Pro - that's what I do and its very easy, and keeps all my files in sync.
So I followed all the steps and now the iPad Pro reads the usb drive and card reader. However, it doesn’t read the files. It says no photos to import. Help!!! Almost there

Have you tested other apps to see if able to import without DCIM folder structure and 8 character filename limit?
I've tried without the DCIM folder and it doesn't import unfortunately.
I have followed your instructions but I kept getting an error. Could you tell me what format you have your drives in? Eg: Mac OS Journaled. Thanks
I have it in standard NTFS Format. How many drives have you tried?

Only MP4 and Image files like JPG. You can't transfer back from iPad to USB though.

Large files such as maybe the whole season of Stranger things?
Yep, as long as they are all individual mp4 files that you can select at the same time, then I see no problem with that :)
