Sick album Day idk of suggesting: Tim Hecker - Virgins (Drone, Ambient) Clipping. - Visions of bodies being burned (Horrorcore, Industrial Hip Hop) Jane Remover - Frailty (Indietronica, Digicore, Hyperpop) Igorrr - Hallelujah (Avant-Garde Metal, Breakcore, Baroque) Squarepusher - Hard Normal Daddy (Drill and Bass, Jazz Fusion) Oneohtrix Point Never - Garden of Delete (Electro-Industrial, Progressive Electronic) Machine Girl - WLFGRL (Hardcore Breaks, Footwork) 2814 - Birth of A New Day (Dreampunk, Basically Vaporwave without any samples)
Yeah in interviews Kevin Parker admits he found Tame Impalas drum sound seeing the Flaming Lips in Japan. Its all Steven's genius. Kevin couldn't get him, but hired a Flaming Lips producer. I recommend Clouds Taste Metallic from 1995. It is like a missing link psychedelic album imo and the last to also include Flaming Lips old guitarist Ronald Jones who was also kinda genius along with Wayne and Steven.
@@Gizzhenge You were right the first time, Kevin hired producer Dave Fridmann to mix "Innerspeaker" and "Lonerism", and he has specifically admitted the drum influence of The Soft Bulletin while talking about "Race for the Prize" in a Pitchfork video. If people like the overblown drums sound and want more of it, I suggest listening to other albums Dave has produced, like The Delgados' 2002 album Hate (the first song especially is amazing).
Man.... one of my favorite albums ever. This thing was fucking mind blowing to me as a teenager in 1999. Best Flaming Lips. Worth tracking down the documentary on the making of this album. Coyne, Drozd and Ivins were fucking channeling here on this album. I'd say that "At War with the Mystics" for more of a hits oriented album and "Embryonic" that dives full into the existential dread as both worthwhile listens too.
Their 4th album from 1990…’In a Priest Driven Ambulance’ is one of their best. Rawer, more alternative/ punk-ish with searing guitars along with the usual dose of Flaming Lips psychedelia! Also, Jonathan Donahue of the band Mercury Rev was a band member on that album (and the next…Hit to Death in the Future Head). Probably why it’s such a great album.
the two greats from flaming lips, love it spamming the same list of recommendations cus i have good music taste and i know you would love them too Sigur Rós - ( ) (best winter album there is) Kurt Vile - Bottle it in (singer songwriter, very creative and personal lyrics, good autumn listen) Chat Pile - Gods Country (heavier stuff, great album) Father John Misty - Pure Comedy (tied with kurt vile as my favourite singer songwriter) Jon Hopkins - Singularity (one of my fav electronic albums, also has classic piano parts, has worked a lot with Brian Eno for example) Sun Kil Moon - Benji (great singer song writer album)
you are the man a few recommendations: songs - Adrianne Lenker (folk, singer-songwriter) Ghosts of the Great Highway - Sun Kil Moon (folk rock, singer-songwriter, alt-country) SMILE :D - Porter Robinson (pop-punk, pop, electronic) Process - Sampha (experimental r&b, great production) Hypochondriac - Brakence (very experimental emo rap, glitch pop) Reading Writing And Arithmetic - The Sundays (the smiths ish, with beautiful female vocals)
Hell yea. Polvo 👀 recs: Polvo - Today's Active Lifestyles (Sick sounding early 90s math/indie rock, awesome guitar tone) Swirlies - Blonder Tongue Audio Baton (GORGEOUS unique sounding early 90s shoegaze, sounds like mbv, pavement, guided by voices with twee pop mixed in, so awesome, better than Loveless imo) Violent Femmes - Violent Femmes (Unique folk-punk, early 80s college/alt rock, very catchy) Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque (Really catchy power pop, slightly shoegazey, same label as The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine) Quasi - Featuring "Birds" (Awesome Built to Spill-esque/Pacific Northwest indie rock, same label as Modest Mouse, Built to Spill, Duster etc) The Breeders - Pod (Unique early 90s alt rock, Steve Albini prod, was in Kurt Cobain's top 3 albums of all time) Slint - Tweez (Sick late 80s post-hardcore/math rock, also Steve Albini prod) Pinback - Pinback (Very chill and creative late 90s indie rock) Modest Mouse - This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About (Amazing album, basically as good as The Lonesome Crowded West) The Prodigy - The Fat Of The Land (badass big-beat dance music) Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand (lovely 90's lo-fi) Hella - Hold Your Horse Is (Math Rock with the drummer from Death Grips, before he was in Death Grips) Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (Absolutely perfect 90's indie rock album)
Hey smags, i'd really like to see your reaction the the album "Si On Avait Besoin D'une Cinquieme Saison" (or simply Les Cinq Saisons) by Harmonium. This was a progressive rock/folk band from Quebec that only made 3 albums because they all thought they had made the best possible with their music and lyrics and didn't want to ruin the perfection they'd made. It's in my top 3 favorite albums of all time and it's probably the most beautiful album i've ever listened to. Suuuper recommend it 😃
BRMC: Specter At The Feast BRMC: Take Them On On Your Own BRMC: Howl BRMC: Wrong Creatures BRMC: BRMC BRMC: Beat The Devil's Tattoo (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club)
I have a vivid memory of you putting it somewhere around the end of the list in one of the ranking video and I was asking myself 'What the hell, really'? Didn't you react to it before? Am tripping now.
Great album omg i've been waiting for this one! It's already been requested but i'd like to bump up Sprain's The Lamb as Effigy. Or their previous album As Lost Through Collision
Hey Smags, during your reaction of Beach House's Bloom, you said at 9:00 you would do a Minecraft lets-play if the video got 300 likes. The video has 888 likes, yet for some reason I can't seem to find your Minecraft let's play (I would also accept a reaction/review of Hot Fuss from the Killers
My rcommendations: 1. Leaving Meaning by Swans. Their 90s stuff is better, but Swans are dropping a new album next year which will be their last "big sound" album, so I think it would be a good idea to go through the other 2 albums (Leaving Meaning and The Beggar) before the big one drops. 2. A Lonely Sinner by samlrc. My personal favourite from 2024 and I feel like more people should check it out because these songs really hit hard. 3. Gorillaz' Self-Titled. This album is up there with Demon Days and Plastic Beach, def worth a listen. 4. The Piper at the Gates of Dawn by Pink Floyd. This is back when Syd Barret was leading the band and before David Gilmour joined. 5. More King Gizzard. Flying Microtonal Banana, Paper Mache Dream Balloon, Polygondwanaland are my personal favourites.
This is a great album. For The Spider Bite song, his band member apparently had a heroin addiction but said that the spots on his arms were from spider bites.
Love this album! I'd recommend Clouds Taste Metallic next, it's one of their best. Embryonic is also a great one if you want to go forward in their discography.
Day? Of suggesting to la tengo- and then nothing turned itself inside out or built to spill keep it like a secret. Imo the best albums of 99 and 2000 respectively
One of the Flaming Lips best Please react to LITTLE BUSTERS by The Pillows Next! Some other recs: Happy Bivouac by The Pillows (they are both top tier j-rock/grunge albums) I recommend starting with LITTLE BUSTERS though. HIGHVISION and Three Out Change by Supercar (both are great j-rock albums. HIGHVISION is indietronica, and Three Out Change is shoegaze) Everything Will Be Alright In The End by Weezer (great comeback album for weezer with some of their best songs to date)
Day? Of suggesting to la tengo- and then nothing turned itself inside out or built to spill keep it like a secret. Imo the best albums of 99 and 2000 respectively
For a bulletin this soft it sure does go hard
All-time fav right here
Someone help me get him to listen to Emergency & I😭
OH YES THATS THE BEST ALBUM OAT
that album is amazing
I thought built to spill had the better album in 99 imo he should prolly do that next
@@mike04574 That and Perfect from now on preferably because Ive never heard anything like it
Sick album

Oneohtrix Point Never - Garden of Delete (Electro-Industrial, Progressive Electronic)
Machine Girl - WLFGRL (Hardcore Breaks, Footwork)
2814 - Birth of A New Day (Dreampunk, Basically Vaporwave without any samples)

@@Lebowski55Radio Amor even!
Gotta do Embryonic. Amazing Flaming Lips album
Yes! My personal second favorite of theirs
Bauhaus: Burning From The Inside
Bauhaus: The Sky's Gone Out
Jane's Addiction: Ritual de lo habitual

i didnt know this damn thats cool
@happycrimson it might of been an engineer he hired that worked with the Lips, but he was specifically after the oversaturated drum sounds
10 minutes into this. It was actually Japan not Australia

@Egotej i was wrong about Kevin seeing The Lips in Australia...it was in Japan.
Clouds Taste Metallic is a must listen. It has some of my favourite songs from them, like Brainville or Psychiatric Explorations.
I second this. Clouds Taste Metallic is my favorite of their albums.
Please listen to Mr Bungle Smags 😢😢

Took mushrooms at a ween show years ago. The ride home, tripping, through the country, in the rain with this playing. Indescribably great😂
My fave from them tbh
Beck - Sea Change. The Flaming Lips were his band on this tour.
Yessir!! Love this record very much. ❤
It would be super neat to see Tom Waits - Rain Dogs and/or Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Let Love In. 🔥
