      TPS
      Jim Plunkett did not have a good team around him. The Patriots did not provide him with the personnel to thrive. No offensive line is the prime example.

    • @marcusvachon845

      TPS
      You mispronounced Earl Morrall's name. Morrall rhymes with all, Al.

    • @sexton__hardcastle
      @sexton__hardcastle 6 лет назад +4

      My takeaways from this:
      1. Art Schlichter's last name is pronounced "Shleester", not "Shlickter".
      2. Earl Morrall's last name is pronounced "Moral", not "Morale".
      3. I don't consider Tim Couch and David Carr to be "busts". They were drafted first overall to expansion teams, and they just had no chance on most of their dropbacks.

    Carr gets way too much hate. The guy had ZERO O-Line during his entire tenure.

    • @bwill887
      @bwill887 3 года назад +17

      Agreed, but it was going to be Carr, especially for a team by team analysis. That said, Carr had nothing even close to a working O-line and had almost no time to let anything develop. Once the team got better, the beating he took during his earlier years created problematic habits. Basically, his failure is more on the team as a whole than Carr individually.

      Your memory is a little off. The Browns went 4-12 during Frye's lone full season as starting QB (2006). When the Browns went 10-6 in 2007, Frye started the opening week against the Steelers, faltered and was replaced by Derek Anderson. Frye was then traded to the Seahawks before the Browns week 2 game against the Seahawks. Anderson started the rest of the 2007 season, so he, not Frye, is, therefore, the GOAT. Right idea, wrong QB. But then there have been so many in Cleveland since 1999 it's certainly understandable they could be confused as they all tend to look and sound alike after awhile.

      @ Aarnav Kolli - I don't accept that reasoning. It's true that a higher pick comes with a higher expectation, but a player's draft position is only one consideration among many. Sure, if Manziel had been a fourth-round speculative pick, then I wouldn't rate him so highly as a bust (er - you know what I mean). But a first-rounder is expected to produce whether he's taken first or thirty-second.
      Manziel had a better supporting cast than Couch. Couch put the effort in where Manziel partied. And Couch did lead the Browns to the play-offs in 2002. Manziel is by far the bigger bust.

    I'd disagree on a few teams.
    I'd take Leinart over Jake Plummer, any day. Plummer suuuucked. 9 tds to 24 ints in his first year starting.
    Couch wasn't even close to as bad as Brandon Weeden. Weeden is possibly the worst QB drafted this decade, though Blaine Gabbert and Jimmy Clausen are close. EDIT: I did forget Nathan Peterman but I feel like this point still stands
    Jake Locker is much worse than Vince Young was, in fact Vince showed some serious promise on occasion and even won the 2005 OROY award.
    RG3 was OUTSTANDING as a rookie. Jason Campbell and Heath Shuler (definitely Shuler) were never even close to as exciting or productive as RG3. And btw, he did make the playoffs.
    Lastly, Paxton Lynch stinks. He's easily the worst QB Denver ever drafted, but barring him, Osweiller and Siemian were both much worse than Cutler as well.

    Be honest - Tim Couch could have had John Elway's arm, Peyton Manning's poise, Barry Sanders' running ability, Leon Lett's strength, and Vince Lombardi's knowledge and strategy and he'd have finished in the last place with Cleveland. Couch taking the 1999 Cleveland Browns to a 2-14 season would be like taking the Steelers or the Seahawks to a 14-2 season.

    Jimmy Clausen helped me win $500 when he was drafted. About 4 years before he was drafted on my break from work I bought a magazine about high school sports. It had Clausen on the cover as the number 1 high school football player in their senior year.
    I made a 4 year bet with a friend that Clausen would play in the NFL. He did, he sucked, but he still played.

      Yeah it’s probably a little unfair to consider him a bust, but he’s never been a good quarterback, even when healthy.
      There’s a reason he’s never led a team to the playoffs and there’s a reason he was benched so quickly in arizona.

    For the Dallas Cowboys, Quincy Carter should be the biggest QB bust. They drafted him in the 2nd round in 2001, where he played not great for part of 2001, 2002 and did get the Cowboys to 10-6 and a wild card playoff lose in 2003. Then he was released.
