    It's easy to criticise the work these guys do, but they're doing the best they can with the tools they have and the skills that were handed down to them or that they self learned they've never been to a trade school and had their techniques tested to pass a minimum grade. In our throwaway western world that axle housing would have been junked and replaced but they can't afford to do that they have to fix things the best they can. And half the people criticising them in the comment's have never done anything like this level of repair work and are just parroting other people's comments.

    • @johndoe1909
      @johndoe1909 4 месяца назад +2

      true. and throwing it away and grind it down as scrap would actually be the right and rational way to handle it. as you say, they don't have the option, so they work with what they have, but it's neither safe in the road, nor safe to do nor economically defensible in any society that values life and actual pay for work. it's more a desperation thing.

      Snap-On is strange. We had a mechanic burn the end of a very expensive screwdriver. They don't repair electrical damage so we froze it with dry ice and snapped the shaft. Young mechanic said he already bought another one just throw it away. I got the dealer to put a new blade in the handle and showed him the handle was cracked. "We don't replace tools, just repairs." Next visit he put a new handle on my new blade.

      This is rough and will fail
      If you think this is a great job. U clearly have no idea
      This is what we call bush mechanics. Gets u out of trouble in the short term
      Stick welding isn’t particularly strong and the fail will occur straight through the middle of the weld
      And the weld is wider than the thickness of the axle. Instant weakness and fail once stressed

    Big weave weld , instead of stringer beads , makes it very weak.. to much heat in one spot at any given time with big weav weld.. I know these guys are just trying to keep stuff going. Very prone to breaking again.. not saying it will right away.. got to do what you must do.. when you are unable to obtain replacement parts that are new 😊😊

    I bet it wears tires out a lot quicker, but maybe for their roads it will work ,here in USA on highways running 50 mph it may vibrate a lot , the use of some levels would have greatly increased the quality but that’s another world and they are 50 years behind us

      They always seem to use the very cheap PK Bridge 6013 type welding rods and usually run on an old AC power source.
      Also they never ever grind the metal back to clean out the dirt and slag residues and, as others have commented, there is lots of porosity / slag inclusions in the weld.

    Welding cast metals is way , way different than welding or repairing steel . Cast has to be preheated to a certain temperature, of course you need the correct welding rod … then the metal needs to be slowly cooled down .

    En países del primer mundo, JAMÁS harían un trabajo de estos, ahi optan por comprar e instalar uno nuevo. En países donde estas refacciones NO existen o son MUY caras, la gente los repara para durar algunos años mas. Inevitablemente llegará el momento donde se deberá comprar una pieza nueva, pero mientras tanto, puede seguir trabajando este camión.
    Ya quisiera ver a sus críticos, al menos intentar hacer esta reparación y que el resultado sea al 70% de lo que vemos. Uff!!
