Hey Steve o, I know a couple of things about fluid dynamics and wanted to add some info for you. Firstly, there is something called a hydrodynamic boundary layer it makes the lower layer of water on the glass harder to move then the water at the highest point above the glass. For example if you have a stack of cards on the table and you bump the table the cards on the top of the stack will move more than the car to the bottom of the stack. So even with the squeegee you are still leaving a very fine layer of solution on the glass. With that in mind you have to ask yourself what causes a rainbow effect? Well, you need light to produce a spectrum just like rain and Light is needed to produce a rainbow. The rainbow effect your seeing is the light, whether it be direct or ambient, passing through the glass and cutting through the chemicals left behind by the incredibly thin hydrodynamic boundary layer. This effect will be more prominent in certain lighting conditions but will always appear even in complete darkness because the Earth is never absent of light. It's just you can't see it very well and shadows or in darkness. Also the rainbow effect isn't truly a rainbow as in red orange yellow green blue indigo violet. It is the color of the chemicals that appear when light passes through them. For example Blues or Reds will be prominent because hydrogen is blue on the Spectrum and hydrogen is in water. For more information on that refer to the Rydberg formula. Hope this helps.

Up here in Idaho during July I started to leave rainbow streaks it was pretty hot out. Started to use less solution. And also changed out the rubber more. Thanks Steve for the Info. Appreciate what you guys do.

Also using new rubbers helps. Lots of guy keep the same rubber for a month. Definitely minimzes streaks.

Spot on with this Stevo. A lot of Window Cleaners will say they never leave arcs but if they went back to their job at sunrise or sunset next day they would probably see some. What squeegee do you use mainly, I saw on one of your other videos you rate the Unger S Channel.

Not only do you reduce the possibility of streaks by keeping the rubber off dry glass, but the rubber will last longer as well. If you're burning rubber on dry glass your squeegee rubber is losing it's edge when doing so. Keeping the rubber in the slip keeps your rubber sharp as well.

Glad you explained how to prevent rainbow streaks! Never heard about this anywhere else. When you refer to 'honeycomb' regarding the soap does that mean it's not running down the glass but so thick that it's nots moving? 🤔

Great info here. I've not thought to add this to my training before now. 👍🏼
One factor that I've noticed is whenever doing windows that have a high grease or oil content on the glass (such as auto service shops restaurants, kitchens, factories, etc), the detergent tends to blend the oils into the water as an emulsifier. Lessening the squeegee angle on the glass can prevent them.
Ppl calling the company you work for... insanity.

    STOP! Give up your hope.
You dont need it because i guarentee this video was extremely helpful in a way all the other tutorials werent.
I was SICK TO DEATH of hearing "streak-free finish". I practice and practice. I bought unger ninja. Brand new rubbers. I fan, i fan, i fan. Never leave the rubber dry. Keep the angle. Hold it just enough to hold the squeegee. Dont strangle it.
    STILL WITH THE STREAKS.
Then, one day, the fabled tattooed window warrior from the prophecy arrives and delivers unto me the message. The Words.
    RAINBOW.... STREAKS....
    YES. YES, YES, YES, YES.
    THANK..... YOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
From years later (tears later), when youve forgotten all about this video, youre still helping someone massively.
This is the perfect name for it. I just couldnt understand why, on some pulls only, id leave these rainbow streaks.
How can i have immaculate pulls, edge to edge, big mountain, neat close out, minimal detailing. But then proceed to STREAK.... IT... OUT!!! The very next window???
Felt like the only one in the world who couldnt get that STREAK-FREE FINISH!
    Thanks Super Steve.

Very helpful. I've had everything correct but yes, I think I need to test my solution mix % as this seems to be the issue. I've reset my rubber again, put my force on the squeegee, tried different techniques, but to no avail. I believe the solution wasn't soapy enough, or was too soapy. Thanks

Is it possible that after you fan a window clean that fine pollen or dust will stick to the window after less than a week showing up as squeegee tracks or rainbow shaped paths? After writing this it got me wondering if I was using too much soap in my solution and if the green unger clips I put in the ends of my squeegee channels were pushing up the rubber on the ends. Sure enough the rubber was pushed up slightly. I put the clips in wrong. I also checked my unger handle that has screws to tighten the channel and hold the rubber was to tight and pushing up on the rubber slightly in the middle of the channel.

  • @JorgeChavez-xm2ew
    @JorgeChavez-xm2ew 6 лет назад +1

Hey Steve great tips. Does the length of the channel in comparison to the size of the glass play a factor as well? It seemed to me the channel you were using would contribute to streaks because it's not in proportion to the glass. What are your thoughts?

Is this something that's common or am I still missing a piece of the puzzle when it comes to fanning?
