    its so sad to see how nice windows 8 was and how it could have really worked… those animations and gestures are incredibly smooth, the charms menu was convenient, live tiles were actually useful. it was too far ahead of its time but it definitely set the standard for new experiences on other os’s.

      @David Gray exactly man, windows 8 was perfect for tablets, windows 10 and especially 11 don’t even come close, now because of the hate

      @David Gray I fortunately experienced windows 8 in real world use, my old laptop came with it, i honestly loved it as I’d been using windows 7 and XP for my whole life. since windows 10’s later releases came out, im not a fan of windows anymore (RTM is best)

    Just bought this device and I'm very happy with it however the BIGGEST problem with it is the kickstand. For myself I usually use my tablet on my lap. Since the kick stand is fixed I can't get the proper angle I want meaning the kick stand is kinda useless unless you use it on the desk which in my case I barely do that. I hope Microsoft fix this issue.

    Awesome unboxing Michael, thanks a lot for such a detailed unboxing and showing the full setup wizard as well as mentioning how RT won't run traditional Windows 8 apps, this is definitely useful info for new users and people considering this tablet. I'm liking the contextual controls within the apps, sort of reminds me of Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Hmm I'm not digging the felt like exterior of the touch cover, but I suppose it does help gripping it and whatnot, keep up the great work :)

    I don't understand why people are comparing the surface to an iPad. the surface is a laptop, NOT A TABLET.

    • @evelynferrer4231
      @evelynferrer4231 9 лет назад +2

      Jade Sun it can be a tablet too because its screen is a touchscreen a laptop can only work by mouse and keyboard

    • @bairfamilyfarm1336
      @bairfamilyfarm1336 9 лет назад

      Jade Sun Apple and microsoft had their OS fought over for years, microsoft released the surface as a competitor to the iPad. If you have even seen the surface commercial where it is compared to the macbook. (Sometime around christmas of 2014 if I remember correctly) The surface pro defentally beats the iPad for performance, but battery life is a joke. And I imagine the thing gets hot, and wastes battery just sitting there as it uses a desktop processor that stays on to allow quick wake-up. The surface 3 might do the trick, but again, battery life may be a little on the low side. I love the look and reviews of the new Macbook. But I can't afford a newer macbook as things get broken too easily around here. The iPad would be great as it is thin, and would easily tuck away to keep from getting broken. But I plan on buying a surface 2 in the future as I love to try to hack the unHackable.

    This is a tablet, and uses Windows 8 "RT" which is designed for ARM (a different cpu architecture than Intel or AMD's x86-x64 architectures.) Since almost no desktop programs exist for Widows that are compatible with ARM processors, only Store apps are available. While you can access the familiar Windows desktop, you cannot install any desktop programs, not even Minecraft, although it should work on an standard Intel/AMD Windows 8 machine.

    The reason why there are not many apps for it yet is because it is brand new, meaning that the developers still have to catch up. If people will make apps for this, then it might be as successful as the Apple products, if not then it will flop back down to the paper thin size of the keyboard.

    I bought a Surface RT, sold it a month later. I thought I would use it for work but didnt. The selection of apps is really poor and after installing a few (Snes8X is good) the tablet got sluggish. It was also frustrating having features like the desktop mode and a USB port but couldn't run computer programs. If MS bring out reasonable priced ''computer'' tablet, I may buy one in the future.

    I have to say though, your video removed any doubt I had. Now I'm sure I'm not going to get one. (that's a compliment by the way). I hate, hate, hate the 'one position only' kickstand. The delay in changing to portrait would drive me crazy, as did the video seek bar in the video. But most of all, I hate the tiles. I think they are being different just for the sake of it.I was surprised that you liked the live updating tiles. It would drive me nuts.

  • @nadavrot

    The main reason to buy a tablet is for reading books. I'm sure you would agree reading books from a computer/laptop screen is not very convenient, while a tablet gives you more varsatility. Also, the Surface gives you the best resolution you can have for that specific screen size, so you cannot have better resolution on your laptop if you laptop's screen is the exact same as the Surface (which I doubt anyway). To sum it up - a tablet is better for movies and books but not games or software.

    The magnetic charging port was actually developed by an asian company quite a long time ago. But they never patented it, because it was intended as a safety device, so they were happy to share it with other companies. Apple came along, used the idea and then patented it as their own, basically stealing it.
    Windows had tablets back in 2001, they didn't do too badly either. But the market for tablets back then wasn't so good.

Microsoft also has The 360 and One. Apple has overpriced Phones that are limited on what you can do without jailbreaking it. Limited to only one music player. Microsoft has multiple different companies(Samsung, Dell, Sony, Toshiba, etc) using their operating system on their computers. May I continue?

    On an iDevice the iOS takes up at least 3.5GB versus the almost 15 Gigs that RT takes up on the Surface tablet. Some of you say well 15GB left over from 32GB is still a lot not really when you compare that on an iDevice with the same type of space you will have 28.5 GB left over.
