Really enjoying all of your videos. super entertaining and you give so much background information when it comes to runewords and loot ingenerell. keep up the good work :)
Amazing content! I'd never go for this challenge myself haha, hell is hard enough without restrictions. I just have a little note to add. When you go to Baal at the end of the video, there is a cheese to clear wave 5 without killing them. The game is programmed to only check if that specific room is cleared or not, so you can kite them out of there, and then when you go back in and they're not following you, then you can enter Baals chamber
Glad you liked it! I am familiar with the wave skip, but for the videos I try to avoid using it if I can at all help it, as it often feels like the true final boss for a lot of characters instead of Baal.
Zarfen, you're incredible. Diablo 2 is by far my favourite game of all time and watching you do these challenges just makes me love the game even more. I didn't know half of this stuff was possible, Kudos.

This as well as the challenge where you beat the game by only buying gear from vendors are some of the most interesting Diablo 2 videos I have watched in a very, very long time! Thanks for your content!

I have listened to this run a couple of times while coding or doing chores. This time I finally caught the "I wondered how long that satisfaction would remain.... well" and actually cackled at my monitor
Don't know if someone already told you but @28:12 you wanted it to have 4 sox but max sox is 3 which you got. Nice video! Looking forward to your next challenge :)
Great video! I streamed a clear of normal on Hardcore with Barbarian (leap attack/leap) and Amazon (passive tree only T_T). Your choice of Holy Bolt was pretty brilliant. Good job!
Your choices seem difficult! Respect for doing it in HC. I really want to do some kind of passive zon challenge but I haven’t figure out what to do yet
DIablo 2 is a great game. Played it like 2 decades ago all the time. I only played in Hardcore mode once it was introduced (if you die, you lose your character, items, everything). Had level 99's of all characters, including expansion characters. Still pick it up ever few years to play though, of course still on Hardcore mode. No way you can make it through that without gear.
I just reached 2:51 when he made a crucial question: "Are Charms gear?" The answer is: YES, Charms are gear. Charms aren't equipment because we don't equip them on your character, but they are gear. Since the challenge is beating Diablo 2 without gear, Charms shouldn't be acceptable. Now, moving on with the video =)
You know what… fair point. When making the decision I was thinking gear = equipment, but I could perhaps agree to charms being gear but not equipment… darn it
The healing from holy bolt made most fights winnable with enough time. Woestave could have been really interesting in the difficult fights if I didn’t have holy bolt I think. Thanks!
@@zarfen Don't know if you had the runes, but 5 a socket polearm (the grim scythe at 28:03) would have been a great base for obedience, which is a relatively affordable RW and packs a lot of punch for the price :) (Hel, Ko, Thul, Eth, Fal)
@pitecusH yeah I actually saved the polearm in the stash in case I found runes for obedience, but it wasn’t even close (no Fal, Ko or even Hel if I remember correctly) I could have gone at farmed the countess maybe for it if I had gotten stuck at ancients.
Dude, what a miserable experience, lol. It reminded me of my first playthroughs in the early 2000s, no idea how to play or what to wear, progress came in a similar fashion, slowly and with a lot of fleeing and dying.
Maybe you can complete a challenge I came up with and tried to do myself but could not complete - No points into skill tree. Instead you can only use the skills you get from charms, weapons and gear. I made it to Normal Diablo but could not do enough damage to him. I used a Paladin when I attempted it.
After paying attention to your play through, you failed to use sacrifice or zeal lol while you were doing melee, so you lost some AR/DMG haha and speed. Glad you still played through. Would have loved to see you try to play through with rainbow (cold, fire, lightning). I would have put 1 point into prayer for the buff to your healing and spare points there. I did put a skill point in zeal early on but I then realized it only gets 2 hits at level 1 and costs a lot of mana (for a gearless pals with not belt for mana pots 😅). So I figured points were better spent in Holy Fire. If I would have stayed with HF longer(which I maybe should have) I think it would have been a good move! Didn’t even consider sacrifice but that might have been useful. There’s a lot of ways I could have gone with the build. I honestly didn’t plan it out too much in advance, and I’m hindsight I wish I had gone heavier on FoH, including putting points into its synergies, to make killing non-undead, no-demons faster. Any enemy holy bolt could damage was no problem, so I should have put more towards making the others easier. I put some points into fanaticism to help the mercenary out , but I’m not sure how much of a difference that really made. Thanks for the comment, many points to think about.
@@zarfen yea if you make the “Angel” build which is really a hybrid of FoH / Holy Bolt and Hammers it pretty much can kill everything but Ubers since you have an equipment constraint. Obviously if you have a shield at least then you can smite

Thanks! Yeah a few comments have pointed that out now. I didn’t know that when I made the video, still learning new things in this game! I actually saved the grim schyte in the stash for that exact reason! But unfortunately I didn’t find a single fal or hel rune, might also have missed the ko but I don’t exactly remember. Oh yeah. Now that I recall, the more obvious skill and stat-up boxes didn't come till later patches. Was in a silly spot at the bottom. I can totally see someone not paying attention, and missing the boxes for the skill/Stat increases
The first character I played was a physical Bowazon on single player. It was really challenging, but with a lot of trial and error I finally got through the game and beat Baal on Hell difficulty. So as a bit of a reward I decided to give my first non-mule paladin character a bunch of gambling money and farmed a Rixot's keen short sword (I found one at some point but it was ethereal). After that I went out and did a holy fire build and SSF with the start of this video inspiring me. Since things were so easy, I ramped up the difficulty to p7 or p8 most of the way through, aside from some bosses (and countess to get more runes). The side effect was that I was leveling like crazy, and thus getting stronger holy fire, then resist fire for its synergy. When I turned it down to players one on ancients thinking they'd be tougher, the aura effect alone had nearly killed the third one by the time I got to attacking him with the sword. So far in Nightmare, it's not quite as effective, and Bishiboshi was the first immune, but with crushing blow on the Rixot's and some crafted blood gloves that was ok too... This paladin still seems like he's leveling by accident a lot of times just from being unable to find the waypoint or exit right away. I'm going to see how far I can take Holy Fire, perhaps until all the synergies are used up. I have a feeling that Hell would be hellish though. Anyway, thank you Zarfen for giving me the idea to do that, it's been pretty darn fun the last 2-3 days. I don't think I'll try this no-gear idea though. Love your videos and humor :)
Hey thanks for the comment! Well done for going bowazon first and seeing it all the way through! It’s a challenging build when playing SSF. I am sure the fire Paladin felt over-powered following that! Hell has many fire immunes, but you should have skill points over to make a built to deal with them. I think a popular one is to respec and go main holy shock with holy freeze as back-up for lightning immunes, but lots of viable options. Glad to hear you’re having fun with the game, and of course enjoying the videos :)
@@zarfen oh yes, he makes it feel like a different game so far. I appreciate your suggestion for the Hell build too! Watching your videos about D2R are fun, and often way more enjoyable than playing the Bowazon. I was going to kill the countess many times with her for a chance of good runes but got very frustrated with physical immune packs of ghosts down there. It seemed like they were near a floor entry point almost every time. After not long I had to go back to Nightmare with my tail between my legs. A few levels later they were still tough, but I'd found a Kuko Shakaku bow (from Nightmare countess, ironically) to use on them and it worked well! Otherwise, I ended up using Insight. My Valkyrie from Peace armor and Merc did some very heavy lifting. I could not imagine doing this in a Hardcore situation. I wish you good luck on the Unique Items only challenge you're doing :)
I remember making a holy bolter back in the OG days. It was one of my first attempts at multiplayer, so I figured it would be good to make a pure support character. Everyone will like me boosting their healing and defences, right? And the damage looks really impressive when you hit undead enemies too (I don't believe it did demons back then). Nope. Turns out no one wanted to team up with someone that did basically nothing to 66% of enemies and couldn't carry their weight at all, and when I couldn't find a party, the character was just really weak. Made me realise how useless characters and spells were in games if they didn't affect basically every possible enemy (especially when in so many games, bosses are immune to many effects). If you can beat the boss without your best skills relying only on the generalist ones, then clearly you would be able to beat everyone else leading up to that fight with just those skills too. In that case, naturally the points you poured into those specialist ones are not really necessary, and could be better spent on buffing your generalist capabilities.
Ive never played with holy fire before either and am so surprised how good it is. Especially in the jungle against those pesky little flayers. They're the bane of my melee existence.
Yeah, I was thinking mainly about the flat fire damage added to my punches, so I was quite surprised when it started 1-shorting things with the aura damage
I really appreciate you showing what Unique items you got on the run even though you couldn't technically use them. The Loot-goblin brain in me needs to know this information lol Edit: well, most of them :P.
I actually think this character is better against CS without gear. Diablo destroys weak summons sooo fast. Might be better in general though, lots of meat shield and decrepify curse seems very safe
I wish you had hovered over each gear slot so I could see the details of the items during the gear check

Its always been decent ( mostly ) but i believe it got buffed even more in D2R
Fishy summoner with revives probably also a good choice
Now you've started a series, we wanna see it get done in all different classes. Who's next?
I didn’t plan to do it but it is kind of intriguing… I guess maybe one of the summoner classes? Definitely not Barbarian or Amazon 😅
wtf, I haven't even beat act 1 hell mode, and here this dude just .. walks through everything naked
Well he plays a caster character and thus equipment is in fact unimportant (as you can see).
Great video! Dedication at its finest. Watched the whole thing! ❤❤
Thank you!
I really appreciate you showing what Unique items you got on the run even though you couldn't technically use them. The Loot-goblin brain in me needs to know this information lol
Edit: well, most of them :P.
Really nice to Watch! Thx for the video
"Well"
*Zooms out to show a well
I don't know if that was intentional, but I enjoyed it.
Quite impressive feat :) gj there
this video's title should be "Emilio's adventure" instead.
That was nothing short of amazing, wow. You should try pandemonium with no gear next
The summon necro can do chaos naked, try with him as your character
I actually think this character is better against CS without gear. Diablo destroys weak summons sooo fast. Might be better in general though, lots of meat shield and decrepify curse seems very safe
if u decrep diablo he barely moves... almost impossible to kill skellies@@zarfen
@@zarfen Or just Iron Maiden + Clay Golem and let the bosses kill themselves... works 100%
@Stompy1984 clever! I’ve read about people using that but never tried myself.
What about using white gear only? is it possible to beat normal?
