Yes, this is THE ORIGINAL singer. As a proud South African, and with absolutely no disrespect to Elton John, this is THE version for me. Very proud of our Lebo M! Arguably when the rest of the world hears that intro they think "The Lion king" but us South Africans hear our Lebo M! What a voice! If you want to hear more beautiful South African music, I suggest Lucky Dube "Together as one", Brenda Fassie "Vuli Ndlela", Miriam Makeba "The click song", Johnny Clegg and Savuka "Asimbonanga", Ladysmith Black Mbaza "Homeless" and probably everyone's go to party song in South Africa, Mandoza's "Nkalakatha". You won't be disappointed.

That is indeed the original singer and I was lucky enough to see him perform with Hans during one of his tours. The entire show was bucket list to say the least!

For those that don't know the opening lyrics are in Zulu and mean

Also another fact of the movie is that all the Characters name are in Swahili. And some of the stories elements come from Masai tradition. So not only is the movie consisting of animals of the African plains but they incorporated the elements of African language, Traditions and Values from all over Africa which makes it all that much better if you learn about that. Also it is the only Disney movie to be dubbed in Zulu as well.

In some ways.... we have already sent this beautiful music out into the cosmos... and someday... someone out there will find it again. And that makes me happy. But just in case, let's make a Voyager 3 and load it up with more music, and send it out.

Of course, that’s the ORIGINAL singer. When you have that song burnt into your brain, you recognize that voice from a mile away. More than 25 years later, and his voice sounds exactly the same that I actually started to tear up.
This song is just perfect. And this version is amazing and beautiful! I've got a CD called "Rhythm o the Pride Land", inspired by the soundtrack of The Lion King. The songs are pretty much all performed by Lebo M and I think as much as I adore the OST, t Rhythm of the Pride Land is actually even better.

This guy (Lebo M) is the original guy on the movie/soundtrack intro, but the rest of the song is sung by Elton John. So you're right. He's the original but not all of it.

Yeah you need to listen to the cast from the Lion King doubt this. Its significantly better. This is good but it's just not as good. I saw the Lion King at the Lyceum theatre in London for my 30th birthday, it was incredible and it literally gives you chills
I've seen better performances of this with Lebo M. The performance at Vienna is better and frankly most of the performances with Hans Zimmer tour are outstanding.
