But I think this is the missing video to diy 3d print to diy shredder to diy making your own filament. It can only get better from here.. Если прикрутить на режущие кромки заточенные полоски металла - эффективность возрастет несколько раз. If you screw sharpened metal strips onto the cutting edges, the efficiency will increase several times.
Been wanting to make one of these like this myself for a while. Then my printer at home stopped playing nice and the new one I got where I was sheltering for the pandemic refused to zero in from day one XD Glad to see there's someone out there able to come up with the same idea and willing to follow through! Please keep us informed!
If you tried it with a bigger gearbox (that "multi motor" one, and maybe m o a r gears idk lol), overbuilt gears, and maybe a "blade stack" a bit finer/more like precious plastic's design, and this may be a legit low cost option!
The gearbox housing needs either some vertical bolts through it. Or print some pieces like cross sections of I-beam and make channels in the walls of the box to glue them into so they act as tie bars with their print layers 90 degrees to the box layers. Adding a top cover and bracing from the top of the gear box to the shredder box would also make it tougher. Three or four of these stacked would reduce old prints to pretty small pieces, especially if the lower stages used thinner discs.
Using less stages for the gearbox would make it stronger i think, because if the last gear is very big you apply less force to the teeth and more is handled by the leverage
Making a separate gearbox for the second axle would also improve strength, as the force isn't transmitted from the first stage via the relatively small gears oncthe shafts
suggestion: use two of them 775 motors, one for each shaft, both gearaed down even more than this, and make the housing sturdier. then iam sure it could maybe eat a plastic bottle. if not, downgear it even more.
Oh wow, this is exactly I wanted to know if it is possible. Interesting that the problems happen in the gearbox more often. I wonder if the shredder parts can be reinforced in some areas and then being used for a long time. Also, if it would help to heat PLA to the point of failure and then shredding it, and if it would then glue to the shredder and clog it up or not.
I have built a shredder before, and i made the mistake of making the shredding wheels and the shaft one piece, took so long to get the supports out... at least it held for long...
Haha yes sir ;-), it would be more than powerfull enough, it has a theoretical torque of about 297kg*cm. Test video of the servo can be found here: ruclips.net/video/d8us3OWgS1A/видео.html
I just can't believe those gears are not breaking apart, You should upgrade the gear box ! More power I came across your channel while watching gear-torque videos ! Your channel content is good !
the gearbox keeps keeps breaking try wrapping it with carbon weave and epoxy or fiberglass u can get really thin dry fiberglass sheets same method used to make bamboo bike frames or if u dont want to spend money buying cf and epoxy u could even use hemp string and pva glue it makes really strong and hard material
impressive gearbox, but that you have an gearbox is a problem, for every extra part you have is one more potential point of failure. the grinder should have had just one low speed high torque engine that you connect directly to the shredder.
Neat but if you really are trying to build something that needs strength you need to do 100% infill. I know print time is gonna be forever, but should save on reprinting replacement parts.
It was very fun to watch i like to watch videos that people break gears and remaking stronger and break again :D but I little bit triggered when the gears keep breaking. You should use helical worm gear for reducer or a reducer entegred dc motor.
Hi Brian, how are you? I found this project amazing! I'm developing something similar for my TCC of the Mechanic Technician course. I would like to know if you could help me with the transmission system calculations part. Note: I'm Brazilian lol
would be interesting to cast all of that in aluminum, shouldn't be that hard with 3d printed molds, would be cool and easy to do a lost wax kinda thing with PLA parts being melted out "wax"
Hello Brian! I purchased your Fusion 360 file for the shredder and gearbox, but I notice that file includes the old version of the gearbox case. The new improved version you show in this video has a perpendicular surface outside the M5 bracket mounting hole so the M5 nut can lay flat instead of against the angled surface. Is there anyway I can get a copy of the Fusion 360 file for that new design? I can always modify mine, but it would be nice to have any other improvements you might have made.
Hello, I've updated the Fusion 360 source files on the website. You should've received an email with an updated link to the files. Thank you for pointing this out. If there's anything else please let me know.

Time for a stronger housing for the gearbox. Gear down for what? has a nice gearbox he's been perfecting for a while.
Why not just hook up an impact driver instead of that weak motor.
