You! You... SOLVED THE PROBLEM that I was having with our 'new' Champion 3100w inverter/generator. Although new, it had been stored for a couple of years with gas before I got it with a used RV. Our symptom was that it would only idle with the choke on. The carb was starved for gas because the gas had gone bad and more than half of the jets/ports were clogged/gummed-up (additives would not do the trick at that point). Choking a carb reduced the airflow and that would allow it to idle (on the limited fuel supplied) but it would not idle at the needed full throttle and that resulted in the inverter easily overloading. YOUR VIDEO showed me how to remove and clean the carb and THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM. Our inverter/generator now purrs like a kitten (ok... maybe a little louder than that) and runs at factory specs providing all of the needed watts/amps. T H A N K Y O U !!!

My Champion 3100 was surging at idle - I knew it was the low speed jet but hadn’t been able to find it on this carburetor (it’s different than all of the motorcycle carbs I’ve worked on over the years). You're very welcome! After this hurracane season is all done. Run it until it runs out of gas then open the drain screw on the carb let the little gas left run out and close the screw. give it a few pulls to suck in any residual fuel and. it will 100% start next time you fuel it up! extra points if you change the oil one quart of non synthetic 10-w30

Disassembling my Champion 3400 Duel Fuel today to see why propane was flowing through the carb when the generator was not running I noticed the Inverter panel showed signs of overheating and I wondered if that was why it stopped running on gasoline yesterday and refuses to start except for a few seconds with starter fluid. Tomorrow I'm going to try unplugging like you did and see what I learn. Watching you remove the carb gives me the confidence to pull it in my quest regarding the propane-flow problem. Can't thank you enough.
Very well done video. I learned alot and now understand what to do when my generator does not start. You also did a great job of explaining the working of the generator.
Excellent video. Champion told me that using a fuel Stabilizer was important since this is my back up . Mention what you should do when not using the gen periodically
Thanks for the video boss. I pulled my champion 3100 out of the barn after about 6 months for the winter. I had left the gas line open. I pulled it maybe 10 times, it started and ran for about 35 seconds to a minute and immediately cut off. I'm really hoping this is my issue.
What an informative video!! Thank you for sharing your experience. Great diagnostics......and fabulous tutorial on the carb. Whew....the electrical issue at the end was a curve ball. Awesome job! And I enjoyed your instruction!
Very awesome!! Thank you!! I just bought 2 of this same model for dirt cheap from a friend. He added fuel stabilizer, taken good care of etc. But the last time he tried to start them they wouldn't start. I'm thinking starter fluid first, and clean the carbs should work. But if not you just showed me what to do next. Thank you! Great video, great info. :Nic.
You're very welcome! just pull the air filter open the choke and spray a little starting fluid if they run for 2 sec they need the carb to be cleaned. then go ahead and pull the carbs one at a time and clean them for best reliability. Once they're out use the hose that goes to the carb to drain all of the gas from the tanks. and only try to run them with fresh fuel in the tank. the reason why I find so many good deals around here is because people think that Stabil will make gas last forever and it does not, when you get them running and are ready to store them let them run out of gas and use the drain under the carb to drain any left over gas in the fuel bowl. that way when you need them next all you have to do is get fresh pump gas and they will fire right up unlike it happened to your friend. last make sure to change oil every 100 hours for best longevity. -Jonathan
Thank you for making this video! I didn’t bother with the carburetor and it ended up being the inverter control unit just like this one. You saved me so much work and headache! I’d like to Venmo or FBpay you dinner if you’d like.
Great job. Just one question: There are 2 hoses coming from the carburetor. One from the bowl and the other from up top of the carburetor and just dangles. Where does that hose connect?
They don't connect to anything there are 2 holes on the bottom for you to put them through so that they can drain when the carb floods or when you drain it manually.
Excellent. I am on my second carburetor...only have like 7 hrs on it. The first one I left it unused go a little too long. So once I sprayed inside the throttle with carburetor cleaner and it started I called Champion and they sent me another. So it was running great. I dont run it regularly because I was renovating the motorhome. Then no start again. Really??? I put some mystery oil in the gas to keep things lubricated because the first carburetor the needle for the float was stuck up and mo gas was in the bowl. But this one there is plenty of gas but won't run until I spray inside the throttle. Frustrated big time. Ready to call Champion again...your video was very concise. Great job
Young man thank you for this video . This was exactly my problem with my generator. You have a great gift for teaching. Will be checking out the rest of your vids. No worries about the Covid germs.... the uv light from the sun will kill the bacteria : > ) . Be well my friend , Jim C.
So impressed. I would have left the carb in place, taken the float bowl off and checked it and leave it at that and try again. This lad is brilliant and certainly knows his modern small engines/inverters. Anyone know if these generators can handle 0W30 rather than 5W30 oil?
Well done, thank you so much! Liked and subscribed. You have a gift for clear and thorough explaining things! I have the dual fuel model. The solenoid was sticking so it only ran on propane. Would it be better to run Trufuel in these small engines rather than gasoline?
very cool, thank you! i just bought the DualFuel 3500E and before using it wanted to understand it better. your video really helped me understanding the layout and the parts of those things. even though it is a slightly different model. subscribed and liked!
I bought one of these generators about 8 years ago. After a couple months of sitting, the carb gummed up. Champ sent me a replacement and from there on, I use stabil in all my gas cans. Have left the geny for over six months and still cranks right up.
Thank you for the video!!! You mention that you have a retrofitted a Champion control module other 3000w class generator brands... did you make a video on that??
Edit: I located the two screws that require removal. They are behind the inside handle cover. Excellent work!! I have a new 3400 dual fuel unit and want to install an exhaust extension. I would like to remove the panel on the exhaust side in order to ensure that there is no leak between the spark gap flange and the genexhaust kit flange (yes, it has a bushing). However, after all the screws and bolts are removed (5 screws and 2 bolts) it seems like there's still something holding it together at the handle, even though the three screws are removed that should hold it together. Am I missing some fastener or clip? I don't want to snap the panel. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi this video it's amazing thanks for all the info given on the video, I was wondering if you might have recommendations I have the same generator but the 3500 watts and mine won't start I did everything you did but it will still not turn on, cleaned the carburetor, fuel tank, change oil, has spark and unplugged the inverter but still will not turn on, I was just wondering if you might have any other recommendations thanks in advance
does it have compression? pull the cord slowly and you should feel resistance on the compression stroke if the compression isn't enough to drag the generator without holding it then it's either worn out or you need a valve adjustment
Have you ever ran across any duel fuel generators? Champion 4500? You have explained each segment so that any owner of such machines can diagnose and repair
Thank you for doing such a good job on this video. I'm just wondering if you could tell me how many plugs in total, you had to disconnect and reconnect to the inverter board and what was that box that was hanging on the left when you took the pannel off housing the board and battery? And do you recall there being any empty spots where something could have been plugged in but wasn't because when I look at the board from the top of mine, I see what looks to be, an empty hook up spot. Also I don't have a box hanging in the way, so just wondering as I to am trying to trouble shoot my champion dual fuel generator..
when you say you are trouble shooting what issues are you having with it? also send pictures of what you are describing on the board to: immortalengines91@gmail.com and I will try my best to help you!
what a great video, im struggling to find new inverter, mine has the same problem. any tip on how to get a new inverter board to my champion 3100 watt? i live in norway. Camilla
I also had a bad inverter board on my 3100, the generator would start, it would just not output any power. It's inexcusable that these are so delicate and go bad that often, a replacement board was like $300 when I ordered one.
Hola espero estés bien. saludos desde Puerto Rico. Tengo una de estos generadores pero el Dual fuel. El problema que tengo es con el neutral, no puedo conectar nada de tres patas porque tumba el generador. Que puedo hacer para repararlo?
I have a Champion 100263 Inverter Gen. It has about 6 hours on it. I had no run it for a while. When I started it... it had an oil leak. What can I add to the oil as a stop leak?
@immortalengines1605 I have this same generator. Runs fine, makes electricity. Carb and all is clean. My issue is it only starts on carb spray or starter fluid. Once running, stays running fine, for hours if necessary. Turn it off, won’t start unless you respray with fluid. Again once running stays running. Is there some sort of priming system I’m missing. When choked, the act of trying to start should pull in gas from top of carb. Maybe I missed something up there. Could carb solenoid be causing this problem? Thanks you 😊
check if the stepper motor is actually closing the choke when you are trying to start the stepper motors don't need much resistance on the choke or throttle shaft to stop working. remove the choke and lubricate the shaft and make sure its sooo light that blowing on it would move the butterfly. i can't stress enough of how weak the stepper motors are.
I also have a black hose hanging from the top in that same corner that has a nipple on the end and I'm not sure if it's supposed to be hooked up to somewhere or just hanging free (the only thing at the top that I can see where it might come from is the gas tank and If so, maybe that's my problem lol). I would so appreciate a reply as I am getting a little frustrated at this point. Thank you from British Columbia, Canada.
Great video. Thanks for the helpful info. Two questions, Do you have to have the battery to run the generator if you pull start? Mine is dead, I left the switch on evidently. And I do not see a fuel shutoff anywhere so that I can run the engine off when storing.
No, you do not need battery power to start it however this gen has an electric choke that runs off the battery so in order to start it with a dead battery what you will have to do is pop the rear cover and turn on the choke manually right at the carburetor, it has a little lever then once it starts immediately put the lever back to where it was so it runs smooth. The fuel on and off lever is quite obvious, it's located on the far left of the panel where all the switches are. it has the logo of a gas station pump on it
@@immortalengines1605 Thanks for your response. I finally got a new battery because the original would not charge more than 6.5 volts. I drained all the gas out of the tank the best I could with a siphon, drained the float bowl and had to use some ether to get it to fire off. simple choking would not do it. It ran smoothly for a short while, but now without a load on it is not purring as you would expect with no load, it is racing and returning to a lower rpm. Wondering if I need to take the carb off and clean it from any old fuel residue? I plugged in a drill also to check the load and if I pressed the trigger on the drill quickly the drill would cut off(no power from generator evidently) then in a couple seconds i could squeeze gently and keep it running indefinitely.
@@1xenman Nice yes they do that often to help their costumers, specially if you're nice about it. I would suggest that you clean the carb and try to see how it runs after it never hurts to learn a new skill. when you pull the carb to either clean it or replace it turn the fuel to "OFF" then when the carb is off the Gen turn fuel to "ON" and drain it using the fuel line in a container since that's the lowest point in the fuel system. follow my instructions in this video of how to clean the carb and please never ever leave it with fuel for longer than 2 weeks if you're not planning to use it run it out of fuel and drain the bowl on the carb. that way all you have to do is add gas and it'll fire up!
I know this video is old but with the motors on top of the carb you can actually open the other side of the generator and just unplug the wiring they are super easy to unplug
After watching and commenting on your video I went to my generator unplug power inverter sure enough I could rub it. Looks like I need a new power inverter. Thanks Again
Is the potting material they used to waterproof the inverter board soft or hard. Wondering if it could be dug out so that component level repair could be possible?
It is very hard feels like glass to the touch. and unfortunately it would be a nightmare to remove it from the board without causing more damage. if it was possible I would go that route instead of the replacing parts route.
At about 18:15 you mentioned running the generator really hard frying the inverter. Is the something common with this model, or something true with all inverter generators? Also you mentioned it being ready to sale. Do you sell rebuilt generators for shipment?
This is the case with all inverter generators. imagine driving your car at top speed while fully loaded. just because you can it doesn't mean you should. And I fix them up to resale locally.
@@immortalengines1605 hey man thanks for the reply. Is this issue of burn out only true for the inverters, or also for the larger output portables? So it seems since the only control I have is the amount of load I ask of an inverter, should I only connect it to the amount of wattage to match its running watts, or should it be less allowing for start up? I'm trying to decide which generator to buy and still protect my sensitive circuit boards.
@@olegig5166 generators are much more likely to have power issues when ran at the limit and in the heat. non inverter generators are usually used for heavy duty application such as construction sites. those don't have an inverter so they can be ran a bit harder. never start a generator with a load and if you are going to start an appliance that will heavily load the gen turn auto throttle off for it to rev up and be ready for the load rather than have it rev up on it's own after it's been current shocked.
You know your stuff!!! Nice job. I just purchased this generator, I’m in the process of doing my first 5 hour break in. Any advice on keeping it running good? It’s an investment I’d like to keep running smooth. 👍
all i can say is always run it out of gas before storage and drain the carb as well, a few pulls after that ensures all gas is gone from carb. always change oil every 100 hours these engines have no filter to running the oil longer than that will slowly "sand" your engine internals with the metal it sheds..
Have the same or very similar generator and to me seems the auto choke is stuck on. From near new it seemed to only run correctly when using auto start with remote and the choke would turn off on its own then run fine but now it is running as though the choke is constantly on and pushing the button makes no difference and it’s consuming a lot of fuel. Is this a thing ? Thank you.
Do not run it like that! if the choke is constantly on then it sucks in more fuel washing the cylinder walls of the oil it needs to stay lubricated. do and oil change asap. remove carb and clean/lube the shafts where the tiny motors connect for both throttle and choke
I have a 3100 champion generator, while i was cranking trying to start it, out of nowhere it just seized up. There was no clunk or other sound that would indicate that the motor blew up, if i pull on the recoil cord, it still does turn but its VERY stiff. Do you think a shorted inverter could be causing my issue too?
You should make an exhaust extension instead. I'm not familiar with the Co sensor on these. And if i was it probably wouldn't be a good idea to show people how to disconnect them.
As a retired MotorCycle mechanic I found too many mistakes that unfortunately will be taken as good instructions. 1) Trying to squeeze the air box cover out of the service door opening should have immediately directed removal of another panel. You spent way more time (at high speed FF) than just removing the inverter's black end panel. That waste of time hits you more than twice, as in on the risky, likely errant reassembly too. 2) Using Brake Cleaner instead of Carb cleaner means cleaning will be different (not as good) -and- brake cleaner is very hard on rubber parts and will wash the cylinder walls of lube when sprayed into the carb opening with the engine running. 3) The Red and Yellow wired connectors MUST go to the proper inverter terminals -because- the Red wired one goes to the circuit breaker, then to the Hot terminals of the TT-30R and 5-20R outlets. The White wired terminal goes directly to the outlet Neutral terminal. You won the coin flip and got it right, as indicated by your plug in AC outlet tester's LEDs. 4) The brass tubular carb part held in by the Main Jet that fell out after tapping on the table is the Emulsion tube. The many small OD air holes rarely clog up but they do need gentile mechanical cleaning with wire to remove soft scale. 5) The 2 Brass air bleed jets beyond the choke butterfly shaft is what got sprayed, and that is the best way to fully clean and purge the low speed circuit that finally exits through 2 or sometimes 3 very small holes on the carb ID almost touching the throttle butterfly OD as the throttle just opens. Everyone ignores those holes, but they are key to solving part throttle RPM surging problems IF they are even only partially clogged! Spray them and the air bleeds first, before removing the (low speed) Pilot jet to avoid re-contaminating the Pilot jet. 6) Possibly the most important advice in using ANY generator is to use the shortest, heaviest copper wired cords to transmit power, and avoid "FRYING the inverter". Do NOT use 50' or 100' "Outdoor extension cords" (usually only 14 AWG or worse yet (thinner) 16(!) or 18(!!!) AWG) to power your neighbors refrigerator! Either move the Genny all the way over to him or use the shortest more expensive, larger wire diameter 12 AWG cord. Thinner diameter cords (the larger AWG numbers) have a higher Ohm resistance causing a Voltage drop that consequently raises the Amperage, which causes the cord itself, electric motors and Genny inverter circuits to overheat . . . all the way to destruction. 7) Finally, shutting the fuel off and running the engine DOES NOT use up all the fuel in the carb float bowl! It is better than not running the engine, but not the best it can be. Open the drain screw after your fuel-off-run-out session and see for yourself. There is still about 20% of fuel left below the main jet location after the RPM cycles increasingly wilder because of the lowering fuel level inside the carb float bowl and the engine stalls. The ONLY WAY to "drain" the carb is to loosen the drain screw and drain it through the attached clear hose into a small container, even tipping the Genny towards the drain screw location to get-it-all. On Gennys with a dedicated pull-out choke knob I pull it all the way out and pull the recoil starter quickly about 5 times to suction out any fuel wetness in the main jet and especially the ~.015" diameter metering orifice of the (low speed) pilot jet. ----------- I did learn something from you, that unplugging the (?Bad?) inverter power connector allows a bad running engine to run good, so thanks for that.
@@Puyax01 shoot ok. fot that you will need a stripped screw remover tool. it looks like a screw but the threads are backwards it should come out that way. unless its already out
How often should you need to start this generator? I have one and only have a couple of hours on it but have changed out the carb already and recently went to start and it will not start. Any advice.
sounds like you leave it with gas. there is no need to change the carb simply clean it as i show in this video it really isn't all that hard. next time you are going to store it do this: step 1: run it until it runs out of fuel. step 2: drain the carb, there is a little hose sticking out of the bottom of the carb that is there to drain it. and 3: with those 2 steps done manually choke it and crank it over, it wont start but it will suck whatever fuel is left in the carb and 100% rid of any residual fuel. do not store with Stabil. it only works for a limited time and then it causes even more damage because the owners trust it for far too long.
On another video concerning a Champion like the one in this video he had a problem with rusty carb bowl. It was claimed the gen had only been run on propane. Is this possible? Does running propane only in fact cause condensation?
it is possible. but the carb bowl is fairly easy to remove from the carb without pulling everything from the gen. I would personally like to run the generator on one full tank of gas every now and then.
@@immortalengines1605 ok, once again great info from you. After considering all the various options, I'm pretty well decided on a standby unit in the 17K range. This generator will be on LP and has no option for gas. Should I be concerned with this cab bowl rust issue or is a propane only system made differently from one using either gas or LP?
I don't have any experience with propane gens but i would imagine condensation is an issue. in case of running it with propane i guess it's always good to drain the carb bowl if it has one. the issue with gas is the ethanol and the moisture
As far as I know they can not be fixed. the coating they have all over the electronics is next to impossible to remove without causing more damage. it's easier to just get a new one.
Ive got a cat rp8000e that runs for 30 secs and the cuts the power to the plug, i disconnect the oil level sensore wire to bypass and see if thays the problem but not iy still cranks, runs great, makes electricity but in 30 seconds it cuts off, it's got to be something electrical Out imagine but far as the engine running itself is pretty simple the way it's made I just don't know why it would cut off in 30 seconds other than it being like the oil level sensor but since that's unplugged that shouldn't be telling the engine to cut power but it's still live if you got any ideas I'd appreciate it alright thank you for the video God bless in Jesus name
The inverter boards are sealed in epoxy from the manufacturer so it's basically impossible or id be more than happy to just replaced the fried component instead. i have a pile of those boards of all brands and sizes

OK. The end of the top one looked as though it was attached at one time. Thanks for your help.
Great job buddy. Nice detail and camera work. Thank you!
You are very welcome!
Great job
how long does it sit between the times you use it?
Young man thank you for this video . This was exactly my problem with my generator.
You have a great gift for teaching. Will be checking out the rest of your vids. No worries about the Covid germs.... the uv light from the sun will kill the bacteria : > ) .
Be well my friend ,

You are very welcome sir, make sure you like and hit the subscribe button!
Thanks for your video, it was very helpful and useful for my generator issues
very cool, thank you! i just bought the DualFuel 3500E and before using it wanted to understand it better. your video really helped me understanding the layout and the parts of those things. even though it is a slightly different model. subscribed and liked!
I bought one of these generators about 8 years ago. After a couple months of sitting, the carb gummed up. Champ sent me a replacement and from there on, I use stabil in all my gas cans. Have left the geny for over six months and still cranks right up.
Brilliant diagnostic, wish you lived next door ;)
Thank you for the video!!!
You mention that you have a retrofitted a Champion control module other 3000w class generator brands... did you make a video on that??
Thank you! I wish I had seen this before I took it COMPLETELY apart😅
Great video, very informative.
Nicely done. Thank you for doing this video.
Anytime! I hope I earned a like and sub!
Excellent Video. This will be most helpful. Thanks very much.
Glad it helped! make sure to like and subscribe!
Wow great video thank you. I wish I was so knowledgeable as you
well after watching your video you are! don't forget to like and sub!
Awesome video brother!!
I have a question for you!
Great tut! What is the part # for the new inverter
CPE012207 Call champion power equipment and tell them your board went out they may send in a free replacement. if not it's about $180
The float bowls have a alignment mart usually a black mark
Wow!!! What an amazing job!!
Thank you👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏽🔥
Have you ever ran across any duel fuel generators? Champion 4500? You have explained each segment so that any owner of such machines can diagnose and repair
I've never come across one of those no it would be cool to see how it works tho
Camilla
Did you tey calling champion? O know it's a US number but you can maybe use am app to make the international call and see if they can ship it to you.
I was looking in your description for the inverter board number and ordering information I didn’t find it
I also had a bad inverter board on my 3100, the generator would start, it would just not output any power.
Que puedo hacer para repararlo?
nice video, so informative.
I have a Champion 100263 Inverter Gen. It has about 6 hours on it. I had no run it for a while. When I started it... it had an oil leak. What can I add to the oil as a stop leak?
Recommended oil blend synthetic or basic10w30
just use non synthetic and change it often. there is no filter so the oil gets dirty fast.
@immortalengines1605
I have this same generator.
Feel free to send me an email at immortalengines91@gmail.com with pictures!
I called Champion support and after explaining what was going on to the tech, he said he was sending me a new carb. since I left gas in it. Free.
Thank you for the video. Good job!
oh... and excellent video... thank you so much...
I know this video is old but with the motors on top of the carb you can actually open the other side of the generator and just unplug the wiring they are super easy to unplug
Great Job please show where to buy inverter panel?
Sure, call Champion power equipment at: 5622369422 and tell them you need part number: CPE012207. also don't forget to like and sub!
That was pretty helpful. Thanks
I'm Happy to hear that don't forget to sub!
Great Job lol need more pointing when talking about parts lol TY
Do you know what air filter is used in this generator? Where is the best place to buy one?
prob amazon
Excellent video
You know your stuff!!! Nice job. I just purchased this generator, I’m in the process of doing my first 5 hour break in. Any advice on keeping it running good? It’s an investment I’d like to keep running smooth. 👍
all i can say is always run it out of gas before storage and drain the carb as well, a few pulls after that ensures all gas is gone from carb. always change oil every 100 hours these engines have no filter to running the oil longer than that will slowly "sand" your engine internals with the metal it sheds..
Are you going to continue making generator repair videos?
I would love to but I haven't been able to source broken generators to fix!
Thank you.
Good jerb. You're hired.
Did you used a champion
Inverter module for a Kipor 6000? If you did can you tell me what part number did you used
Thanks
no it was for a Kipor 3500 I say the part number the video I made for the Kipor
Do you know if there's a way to test the output of the generator you worked on?
I don't understand your question. why do you need to test it?
The “chimney” is called an emulsifier tube.
What is the model# of the inverter?
Good Job Brother!
do you think i can bypass the CO sensor of my champ 4500 gen so it wont shot off if im using on my semi chasis frame? if yes how to by pass it?
You should make an exhaust extension instead.
I'm not familiar with the Co sensor on these. And if i was it probably wouldn't be a good idea to show people how to disconnect them.
How should I go about troubleshooting same model generator that does not run without choke on?
clean carburetor the pilot jet located on the outside is clogged. do not store with fuel even if its stabil
@@immortalengines1605 thanks.. I'll give that a try.. you have mad skills.. keep posting..
-----------
I did learn something from you, that unplugging the (?Bad?) inverter power connector allows a bad running engine to run good, so thanks for that.
What is the part number for this unit
How much does the inverted board cost?
i believe it's just under $200

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Thank you.
@@immortalengines1605I only run mine on propane because it's easier. What does running it on gas do for it maintenance wise?
I don't have any experience with propane gens but i would imagine condensation is an issue.
in case of running it with propane i guess it's always good to drain the carb bowl if it has one.
the issue with gas is the ethanol and the moisture
What to do with bad inverter units? hope you don't throu it away. They can be refurnish.
As far as I know they can not be fixed. the coating they have all over the electronics is next to impossible to remove without causing more damage. it's easier to just get a new one.

What happens if the propane part runs but the gas part doesn't work on the duel fuel generator
bad gas clean or replace carburetor
Brake clean is fine with rubber but carb cleaner WILL make rubber swell up and deform.
Is it possible to send a bad inverter board and have it repaired?
The inverter boards are sealed in epoxy from the manufacturer so it's basically impossible or id be more than happy to just replaced the fried component instead. i have a pile of those boards of all brands and sizes
