    That’s a really nice build. Never seen a diy build with a cnc. Really impressive.

    • @taxicamel
      @taxicamel Год назад +1

      There are indeed many videos of diy cnc builds. It is very common now. You should investigate if you found this impressive.
      For what the outcome is in this particularly case, that's a hell of a lot of work. Wrong LM guides used. OK for wood or plastic ...not for metal, even aluminum. Spindle bearings are very likely the incorrect bearings as well.
      For someone with lots of free time and has equipment and material and wants to make "something", this is pretty good!
      Unfortunately, extremely limited practical use "as is".
      .

    You have a mill. Use dowel pins while you're drilling holes, to locate the plates. Then you don't have to deal with all that misalignment. Also, with your calipers, when you're trying to measure the o.c. distance between the two cap screws, measure the head of one of the screw heads and then zero your calipers at that diameter, then you can measure between the two outside edges of the two screw heads, and it will automatically give you the o.c. distance. Awesome and ambitious project, especially with the limited tools you have at your disposal.

    whats the wobble like of those linear bearings? its seems like a cheap way to make the slide, but compared to a dovetail and gib, it seems like there be a certain amount of play in the bearing that you could never adjust, which would make getting a good finish on parts pretty impossible.

    Planning on making a cnc mill, have a manual lathe. Not going to do a cnc lathe, seems very dangerous since without a strong enclosure, anny a crash can be fatal.

    Love the leveling with the glass plate (how do you know this is sufficiently flat?).
    And of course the shims made from euh...zilverpapier.

    • @Dimitri.van.der.Poorten
      @Dimitri.van.der.Poorten  4 года назад +2

      The glass plate was first tested on a granit fitting table with ink paste. And was 100% flat. And I still think silver paper is the best for thickening.

  • @Jonas_Aa

    Now with that stepper powered table just add a vertical drill and you can mill as well.

    Я полагаю, что грузоподъёмности подшипниковых опор недостаточно. Поэтому работать будет можно только на высоких скоростях, с малым съёмом металла. Но это не уменьшит производительности ЧПУ станка.
