Since you don’t need a second eating area, I think that space would be so cozy with two comfy chairs and a small table between them. Just big enough for coffee that you’d just made at your coffee bar!
Totally! Ive been dreaming wish of that for years! It wont work out in the main house but I have my own sewing building, which came already done as a workshop and kitchen sink and lower cabinets! I spend a great amount of time in there but it got too shall we say...junked up. After this town of 2,000 where we retired rural high desert the town kept giving me things. Now Im up to 5 grandmas entire sewing rooms including extra machines. I had to ban locals leaving bags of clothes on the small patio of my sewing room. I mostly upcyle jean bags and mens shirts etc. So I had to take to thrift anyway and some yah..unwashed baby clothes? No! But now I want to make a cozy area like you described! A friend gave me a round entry way type table. Just a few inches shorter than a regular dining height but Im short. Just figuring out the perfect chairs. Id like small club or wing chairs but would really like to find used to save money. Plus the height. I have in my life cut legs down. Or in other directon could add ball feet to the table.
I used to do this when I was single, living in a pre-war apartment in LA. So much fun! The suggestion about using bigger comfy chairs; you can probably find some that require assembly. You wouldn’t have to worry about getting them through the doorway and it would be a great little chill spot. Matchstick blinds would look great too. Good job so far!
One of the things that I really love about you and your channel is the thought process and the time you give yourself to feel about changes. This feels very intentional, not rushing to get things done, but a much more organic process of "what do I like, what do I need". Stunning makeover, as usual. You have such a clean and peaceful vibe, with a clear style that feels very homey, relaxing and curated/cohesive. You're really excellent at what you do, and your videos always bring me so much joy and inspiration to make my house my home. Thank you LK.
Decor is something that evolves, so I'm glad you didn't think you had to do it all at once. I loved the final result of the coffee bar! It fit so perfectly on the wall. When you first introduced the space, I thought with all that light, you could make a craft room, but maybe you have one in your space? I'm a bit new to your channel, so don't really know the layout of your house.
Love the cabinet! A linen look shade on the lamp would look great and a rug to tie the blue and green colours. Go linen with the curtains as well for the chefs kiss.
Love it and I agree with the coffee shop bench seating vibe. I would definitely put some sort of cushion or padded back on the benches so that you can hang out and maybe read a book and enjoy your coffee in comfort. Great job - can't wait to see the follow up!
Man, I love love love the cabinet! Great color and the reeded glass film was genius. I really like having a cozy off the path seating area with a small table for writing (that's not a desk). Great start to your makeover, can't wait to see the rest.
Thanks so much Susan! That’s what I’m thinking. I’ll probably spend more time in there on my macbook than in my office because the light is so good! Would be so cool to have the record player in there now that I think about it… could be a vibe!
The coffee station looks so good!!! You may want to add contact paper to the shelves where you store the kitty food & appliances. Speaking from my own mistakes, paint doesn’t always stand up in high-use areas where things are being moved in and out.
I like this one! I’m trying to do some similar things in our dining area and I liked the ideas. For the dining bench, you may want to look into business liquidation sales. A restaurant or office that’s closing might have some, often these are cheap and good quality, and of course you can reupholster to fit what you want :)
They sell deck storage chests that look good and are strong enough to sit on. Some even have backs so you can put pillows on them. I think they are made by Rubbermaid and could be spray painted. I'm unskilled when it comes to building so I would probably use one of them. 😊
Suggestion - I've seen benches for banquets made from upper kitchen cabinets. They're sturdy, the right depth and have storage. Could find some used ones on MP or even stock, flat pack ones, from big box stores. Many You Tube videos showing various ways to install them, adjust the height, etc. I like the hutch, it's a perfect fit and great as a coffee bar. Some open shelves above would be nice. I do like the glass cling on, it looks good, just enough coverage. It's a cute room, I don't remember it from your initial walk through, it's been a while. Nicely done!
I bought that same cheap Ikea pendant light, and then sat on it for like 6 months, because I wasn't sure it was exactly what I wanted. I finally installed it a few weeks ago, and it looks 1000% better than what was there before. Definitely does not look like a $3 fixture!
I think you should look into changing out the light fixture portion of the fan and keeping the fan part. I know most of them are interchangeable in this way, but I've never actually done it.
I’m so happy. I said to myself, I hope she gets the green chairs. I hope she paints the cabinet dark blue not light. I hope she uses a glass film of some kind. Yay!!!! The only thing I would change for me is the curtain for a fabric that lays a little easier than linen. Loving how the room is turning out.
That glass film is amazing! I will DEFINITELY be using that on the future!.. you should def paint the arch. Such an easy fun way to add interest! I can't wait to see what you do with this space in the future 👌
I love coffee shops with pairs of super comfy easy chairs and a round coffee table between them. Im currently working on just that in my kitchen as well.
Hi LK, Fran down under in Adelaide here. Have watched all your great videos. I just love them all you are so talented and I love your style and how you present your vids, both inside and out. I too am in a rental house! (🤣 Unmarried with with 2 cats🤣)and Re purpose furniture, am always moving my furniture around, worked really hard on the garden too. Breakfast Nook Don't you just love a nook. I have made several. I love how you took your time to really think out what you were going to do with the space. Love the Cafe Nook. Purrfect, it has become an extension of the kitchen but not encroach on dining. Love the sideboard to bits. Colour and glass purrfect. I thought before you did anything, but in your prep, about filling the cracks in the vertical panel boards with the same filler as used for nail holes? One criticism, I really do not like curtains particularly on windows ( love your window long curtain treatments) but absolutely do not like curtains in doorways or to cover areas! What about painting cat Bin Blue like sideboard color or put back (temporarily) where dishwasher will be? Can't wait to see the finished area. Definately a rug is needed. Looking forward to your next vid. See ya Fran 😻🥰😻
That cabinet makeover is fabulous, such good paint and brilliant to stash your appliances in. I think some kind of modern plaid rug or cushions would go well with the blue. You could go the other way too with a dark red or rust colour vintage rug. It's so sunny it could take the dark rug. You probably have rugs in your stash?! I do like your original idea of built in benches but the green chairs are good too. Such a nice sunny room to work or eat breakfast in. Love this video, looking forward to the update.
I love the direction you are taking that nook to. It is adorable and I think you are really going to enjoy your morning coffee in there. I'm always all about more storage.
Wow, that storage piece turned out beautifully!! I need to touch up my cabinets and trim, and I'm definitely going to pick up that paint!! We also have an outdated ceiling fan in our great room that is just essential to life in the warmer months. Definitely a love/hate relationship! I like having the small table in the room as I would enjoy sitting in there to do computer work in such a sunny, quiet part of the house. Plus, if I have a lot of prep work for a meal, I like the idea of being able to sit while chopping veggies etc.! Or when baking, as I would fill the table with cooling racks. I'm loving the room!!
Happy Sunday afternoon from the PNW! Love what you did with the cabinet! I KNEW you were going to cover the doors' glass with something incredible! RE: ceiling fan, have you ever considered ceiling light fixtures with the fans in the center and the lighting band around the outside? I bought one for my master bedroom because I didn't want the "traditional" set-up. They come with remotes where you can control the type of lighting (soft/bright white, brightness/dimming settings) as well as the fan's functions. I've had mine for about 2 years now and it was one of the best decisions. And, they almost hug the ceiling; unlike normal fans. I hope this makes sense.
Love the nook. I also like viewers ideas of big cozy coffee sitting, peel and stick tiles....how about matchstick blinds or a cafe curtain for a little privacy? Cant wait to see what you decided on.
Just think how cute bench seating would be with that cute throw pillow you showed. I really like the way the fluted glass looked on your cabinet. Great job!
I love the curtain on the cabinet, but I would add the other one because it would look better to be a little fuller. You hit the jackpot with that cabinet.
I love where this space is going so far - it looks really nice! I think the painted piece came out beautifully! Love the plant in the corner as well. The only change I was thinking would maybe look better would be to put the coffee bar on the opposing wall. I know it fits perfectly on the wall you currently have it on - but I feel like it would look so nice to be able to see if from the door way as you walk in from the dining room. Now that I'm thinking about it - I realize you want to add those shelves above it & wouldn't be able to do that if it was under the window...so...I guess that wouldn't work. Anyway, can't wait to see the final product. I know it will be great!!
LK!! Love the deep blue coffee bar. And that dreamy finish! It looks like u applied 30 coats of Japanese lacquer to it. Beautiful statement piece. Can’t wait to see what u do with fabrics and/or color. Those shelves are gonna be the bomb. - Mittens
You are magical!! I need to keep the laquer paint in mind because I'm thinking of painting my lower kitchen cabinets. I think a pop of red and definitely a rug would add to the space. Absolutely love it though!
I love breakfast nooks and in a previous house I had one with benches with storage. It was great. It had a cushion on the seat and pillows against the hard back. It worked and looked good.
It's so CUTE! I love what you did so far and the direction you want to take it in for the final pieces. I think that chrome storage system would look nice, but of course the shelves you picked up are nice too. The coffee bar is so good :) I might use the same type of paint when I refinish my dresser. Somehow you managed to make the flooring look so much nicer. It looks like a fantastic place to sit and have coffee in the mornings, and a place to hang out while you are waiting for something to bake in the oven but you don't want to go far. For a plant stand, you could try looking for low wooden children's stools at thrift stores or garage sales. I use my son's old stool from when he was little. Anyway I knew this video would be good. :)
Tx for the Craftsy link! Re bench - if you're going to sit for any length of time, think you need comfy back support. Someone else suggested a couple of comfy chairs with a small table between. That's absolutely what I would do! Maybe instead of a table you could find a small cupboard so you also have storage. I have a hexagonal drum table with a slate top - it has storage. As always, I so enjoy your videos. Love that you share your thought process, how your ideas evolve and change as you work on the project. That's reality for me - I start with a concept but it will change as I go - flexibility and adaptability is the key.
That’s right! It’s always an evolving process :) I also agree about a back support. And yes def check out Craftsy it’s honestly so cool and seriously $1.49 for 12 months is crazy lol there’s so much content on there!!
Thanks for the Craftsy! I have been looking for something for my appliances in my small kitchen to hide them. I love what you re-styled for yours. I’m looking in a new direction now. Thanks!
Creating a coffee space with extra storage was genius, and the cabinet looks fantastic-love the window film. Agree, peel-and-stick tile would be a great fix for the floor (something Mediterranean?). Myself, I would hang a sconce to shine down where the lamp is. A diner-style napkin dispenser would be a fun touch ….
oh that’s a cute idea! i was looking for terracotta peel and stick tile and honestly everything is so faux looking it has not been the vibe. I would love to do that though!
I like the little bistro set up, but i would put a reading chair in the corner. The light in there is terrific, it seems cozy, and i would cutl up with a cuppa. ☕
Love what you did with the room. Perhaps a chalkboard hanging for decor could be super cute. “Coffee of the day” or menu chalked on. Looking forward to seeing how you finish it.
I thought green would look great with lots of plants to reflect the palms outside. It needs to be a green you love though. I put funky wall paper in my glass doors as the frosting was too light. Did you think of making a bench seat with some of the Ikea bookcases on its side. I like your changes and look forward to seeing the remaining changes. It a great little area.
Totally agree on the green comments! I did a lot of research on ikea bookcase benches and they're actually not that safe or sturdy for multiple people let alone one person to sit on. you'd really have to reinforce them a lot and at that point it seems that its better to just make your own and maximize storage at the same time. I was kind of bummed because a lot of people share that DIY hack and come to find out its not a quality DIY!
I miss my landline :( I had a dedicated line in the office that was so useful when power was out! I got a digital system last winter, and have had ridiculous problems with it! You asked what we would have used the room for...........I would have filled it with open shelving everywhere :) Counter appliances, cookbooks, pantry or overstock storage of food items, seasonal serving pieces, etc.
that sounds like a cool idea! we considered something like that but then thought it might be a lot of visual clutter in a sense. You’d really have to pair down what you’re putting on display and honestly we just want to shove all the annoying g stuff away 😂 but I think if we owned we would definitely do that and add some closed storage too!
Hi LK! I just found your channel and am watching everything 😅 I like your gentle vibe and esthetics. I'm moving into a new rental in Dallas in Jan, so I'm absorbing all your tips and tricks. ❤
it’s for really nice light! It’s very much a part of the kitchen though so I’m not sure how I feel about making it something that’s not kitchen-focused
I put bench seating around the end wall and down the other side with your table in the middle, you could even have your chairs at the end. Then you have more us of your room.
totally I realized that while editing haha I just don’t know why it’s in this house since it was built in 1929 and the rest of the house is mainly original. so random! if I owned I would rip it out and the tiles on the ceiling are so bad lol
@@livingwithlkwas that little area an extension? I came here to say the same thing, it was that 70s paneling. Maybe they redid the area then?
Месяц назад
@@livingwithlk I know you can use spackling compound to fill in the grooves and make it totally level. If it really bugs you it could be worth considering, but the new color is a huge upgrade!
@@jennifernichols509 not an extension but for some reason I think they at some point wanted wood paneling lol and then a later tenant probably painted it to "update it"
❤how you take your time. Wasn't sure about the blue but👌and fluted 'glass' 👏 Keep the fan, 👍vibes with chrome handles, and fix/loop new light in the corner over the table. Paint the arch cabinet blue? Def a corner bench with lift up lid. Same curtains for windows as used for the cabinet. 🙏🇬🇧😻
I love this little space. It’s so bright, I can imagine having morning coffee in there. May I ask how long that paint on the cabinet needed to cure before you put everything on the top. We’re going to paint our upper cabinets so it was helpful to hear what type of paint you used. I also LOVE the way you upgraded the doors on the cabinet!
Thank you!! Some paint will tell you how long it needs but I just waited 2-3 days! The longer the better. I think honestly the paint companies say paint doesn’t really really cure for like 2 weeks or something but I’ve never waited that long haha

Hi lk,
Will that work from Australia?
😻🥰😻
It should!
Since you don’t need a second eating area, I think that space would be so cozy with two comfy chairs and a small table between them. Just big enough for coffee that you’d just made at your coffee bar!
That would keep with your coffee house vibe as well.
yea! I think a big comfy chair won’t fit through my doorway though :/ haha had that issue a few times in this house
Totally! Ive been dreaming wish of that for years! It wont work out in the main house but I have my own sewing building, which came already done as a workshop and kitchen sink and lower cabinets! Id like small club or wing chairs but would really like to find used to save money. Plus the height. I have in my life cut legs down. Or in other directon could add ball feet to the table.
@@livingwithlk Can you open the windows far enough?
Oh yeah! I love that ❤. Really lean into that coffee shop vibe!
You're really excellent at what you do, and your videos always bring me so much joy and inspiration to make my house my home. Thank you LK.
I agree! I'm so glad you wrote that. I was feeling the same way and you saved me a bunch of keystrokes! Thanks.
I love the room and the banana leaves that can be seen from the window. A wall paper that continues that banana leaf vibe might be great.
I think that banana plant outside is awesome too. It's better than artwork!
0h yes!
I love the blue cabinet with fluted glass doors!
I love the makeover. I suggest keeping the coffee bar and a overstuffed chair, ottoman, and reading lamp.
If you put those little felt chair floor protectors on the bottom of the basket it will protect your beautiful paint job a little more. 😊💙💙
A plant/coffee room would be my go to place!
Decor is something that evolves, so I'm glad you didn't think you had to do it all at once. I loved the final result of the coffee bar! It fit so perfectly on the wall. Thank you! I do most of my projects in my office/guest room :) or on the driveway haha and I store supplies in the garage
I actually love the cat food bin, it would look awesome without the curtain too
tbh you’re right it’s not too bad!
I love the way the cabinet unit turned out…the color, the handles & the film you used to cover the glass is just perfect…great job!😁👍🏻
I'm so happy with how it turned out too!
Thank you! I totally agree
I'd say always go for a bench with a back cause pillows seem like a good solution but they end up not being comfy enough.
good point!
Definitely need a back to benches, or you'll end up knocking into the window sills all the time.
Man, I love love love the cabinet! Great color and the reeded glass film was genius. I really like having a cozy off the path seating area with a small table for writing (that's not a desk). Great start to your makeover, can't wait to see the rest.

The framed art with the blue and yellow citrus theme might look good over the coffee bar to the left of your new shelves
I love love the buffet upgrade, cant wait to see what's next!

it’s such a difference!

Thanks!
The coffee bar was a great idea. The room is so much more useable now. Liz
We painted our kitchen yellow i love it. It goes so well with my rooster collection 😊
This turned out so well! I love the look, and you made it really cozy. That coffee bar looks awesome.
Your videos always keep me motivated, and the Sleek Socket is a game changer.
I think a Butler's Pantry is a great idea! ❤
Do you think that the sun would not be so great for pantry items? It’s pretty sunny all day!
The breakfast nook looks nice. Storage is always a must have.
My dining room table and chairs are that hunter green color. I love it!
@livingwithlk irresponsible of the people that do promote it, especially as many who do such hacks don't have money to waste. Hope your well.
Love the little area! So nice to have different spaces to live in. I love the windows in there.
The windows are so much better now that the walls are white I don’t know what it is haha
I love how you transformed your nook. Great job on the sideboard too.💖
The cabinet turned out nice! Can't wait for the next part of the makeover.
Me too! Stay tuned!
I love what you did with the cabinet!
Oh wow, storage in benches. That's great!
Everything looks great. I love the lamp out there. Keep the fan! Looks like it would get hot and sunny 😊 love the color.
Great video! I love that you are back to decorating.
If only I had endless rooms to decorate haha but I love my other hobbies and gardening too💚
OOOOH MY !!! Lovely. Simply lovely.
That looks fantastic! The paint on the cabinet looks so go. I’m inspired to use that color too.
Thanks, it’s such a happy color!
LK, you are such an INSPIRATION! You've got me thinking how I can improve my rental! And I'm tickled that you are in San Diego. Me too!
Hi LK! I just found your channel and am watching everything 😅 I like your gentle vibe and esthetics. I'm moving into a new rental in Dallas in Jan, so I'm absorbing all your tips and tricks. ❤
Hi and welcome! Thanks so much :) good luck with your new rental! I hope this channel can help :)
The cabinet turned out so good!
I love what you did with your Facebook marketplace find ! Amazing ❤❤❤
I think I would use it as a reading nook or perhaps as a craft room. Has so much light and potential! Wish I had a room like this!
it’s for really nice light! It’s very much a part of the kitchen though so I’m not sure how I feel about making it something that’s not kitchen-focused
@@livingwithlkI wouldn’t let that deter you- I’ve often seen dining rooms with libraries incorporated. It’s practical but chic.
I'm droolling over that blue
I love that coffee bar cabinet and what you did to the glass doors.
I put bench seating around the end wall and down the other side with your table in the middle,
you could even have your chairs at the end. Then you have more us of your room.
Outstanding work … encourages me as an old lady I can do something at my apartment 🙏❤️
You totally can! It's all about small changes :)
Just discovered your channel. Love your process. Will be binge watching this weekend.
Love the everything especially the cabinet! Will you please share the exact paint product you used? It’s beautiful!
Love it; if your looking for art for the nook; I have a friend who is an artist; she paints with coffee pods
Can't wait to see the end results.
Perfect solution for that space.
I look forward to to each and every video you put out!
Aw, thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoy them!
Wow how cute it turned out. Great job 🎉
You did such a great job on the painting
The coffee bar looks good! I think you’re heading in a good direction.
Your place is adorable. Love it.
I used the same film on our cabinet doors and love it.
Those walls look like paneling from the 1970's, painted over. It was regretfully pretty common along with shag carpeting.
totally I realized that while editing haha I just don’t know why it’s in this house since it was built in 1929 and the rest of the house is mainly original. so random! if I owned I would rip it out and the tiles on the ceiling are so bad lol
@@livingwithlkwas that little area an extension? I came here to say the same thing, it was that 70s paneling. Maybe they redid the area then?
@@livingwithlk I know you can use spackling compound to fill in the grooves and make it totally level. If it really bugs you it could be worth considering, but the new color is a huge upgrade!
@@jennifernichols509 not an extension but for some reason I think they at some point wanted wood paneling lol and then a later tenant probably painted it to "update it"
@@livingwithlk if only we could see in the future we would know when we are collectively having a bad idea. The area turned out cute, nicely done!
Thanks Paula!
